  1. Thank you all, I am planing on trying out on 6 rai first to see how they germinates, after that move on with more, have to see in the end how many rai will end up doing.

Yeah SDI cost too much, so I will just use drip tape.

There is place to dry at least for some time, hopefully in april they will come of pretty dry and closer to 14.5%

  2. Thanks Kickstart, well these fields only have rice 1 time per year cuz they do not have enough water, only part of the fields get flooded when a small klong floods over, but never in dry season. Family land and it just sits the rest of the year, they don't do enough for the land i think, just about 450 kg rice per rai and I think corn can do better, but I will have to take soil samples before i decide anything.

I don't intend to bring up bad soil, but the soil needs to be worked over with lots of cow manure and chicken spill, but I am all for testing direct drilling as well if the fields look ok. What is the cost of that and how about fertilizers ??

6 baht per kg sounds really bad, was that 14.5% moist or ??

For surface drip using drip take is easy to take up, the main and sub main pipes can be put so not in the way for harvest or planting, or at least moved away without too much work. Or can go with subsurface drop, (SDI)

Still lots to go before this gets the green light, will go up and look at the water wells and small water dams first to see how they hold up, if no rain about 800,000 l water per rai to get out

  3. Thanks, yes I have seen numbers between 3000-3500 seeds per kg, but also seen up to 6500 per kg, not sure how the PAC seeds are, but will have to check that up. I will have to decide later what row space to use when I know what equipment there is or if I buy a planter, but have to harvest too. I don't think I will be hand picking 80+ rai haha

So you put down single seeds ??

    Regards Micael

  4. Thanks Wayned :)

Yeah it is the costs I need to get a grip on, seed costs are not too hard to count, but all fertilizers and other things is the hard part. I have seen lots of different numbers on fertilizing before seeding, so what is a good number for you guys ?? Also cost after planting ?? I got prices on plowing, 200 b per rai, must be 3 plow, and 400 b to make it look nice they said, I assume 7 disc. Waiting for prices on harvest and seeding, but I do see the need of getting some tractor, but better see how well it grows first.

I hope to grow it year round with irrigation when needed, getting cow manure sometime next year should help keep costs of fertilizer down, can get some pig and chicken for the start, but really want to work up the lands so they can support corn better, will have to do soil sampling soon to see where they are at

1150 kg per rai sounds ok, do you see those as maximum with good water, or possibility to increase ?? and if so what way

    Regards Micael

  5. Thanks a lot farmer :)

haha, yeah counting the bag would not be fun :P I meant more in the lines of how many plants per rai that you aiming at ?? The economical planting in USA is around 34-35,000 per acre, converted to rai that would be about 13,000. Is anyone close to that ?? How many seeds per hole you planting at ??

Looking at people around there doesn't give much, they just throw down some between rice plantings and hope for the best, but I will have them look out for anyone taking it a bit more serious.

I will have the fields irrigated so hope that combats any drought, will be planting in December after rice is picked up, but will be building up the water capacity first, so need to read more about daily water needs per rai, have 2 holes drilled and a small pond at the moment. If all works well we will be moving from rice to corn on a part of the fields for the whole year. But I guess I'm getting the hardest time of the year for my trails haha

I will look at the document again and read up more about liquid fertilizer

    Regards Micael

  6. Hi Guys, OP thanks for starting this topic, has given me some answers but not enough.

I have access to some land in Ubon and thinking to do some corn there, about 80 rai. What are the most used seeds here, anyone using PAC559 or 339 ?? and what yields per rai are you all getting. Of course planting density plays a huge part in that, so how close do you all plant, 36", 30" or 20", seeds per rai ??

I have seen some about fertilizers before seeding, but what you guys use after seeding and at what times and what amounts ?? Any info you guys can give is appreciated

Again, thanks for a great topic, hope there is much more to come :)

  8. Thanks everyone, well I guess it is an extension to stay I have. I got 3 months B visa in USA before I came here and then 1 year from here.

My WP end May 2013, but company will cancel my employment tomorrow, or on 14th.

I just plan to go to HK and then Shenzhen and come back as tourist and not on my B visa. That way I should get 30 day tourist VISA when I enter, I am Swedish and that can be converted to ED or I just fly home as soon as papers are done from school

    Regards Micael

  9. Hi all, just a quick question about canceling my WP and VISA. My VISA expires on August 14th and I plan on study here in Thailand after that. So my plan is to leave the country and fly to China on Friday night and come back next week on a tourist VISA while I wait on my school to get the papers ready for the student VISA.

My question is, do I have to cancel the VISA if I will come back before or on the 14th or will it just cancel itself. The company I work for is very small and they have had problems finding the info needed, so if anyone knows what to do and what papers are need that would be great.

Also do I have to leave the country to get the ED visa, most say yes, but I have heard it is possible to not leave.

    Thanks

  10. Hi I just got my media box/computer here from US. I haven't tested yet if it can handle the Thai TV broadcast, but I don't think it will. So my question is where can I find a internal TV tuner card, I guess Pantip could have them, but if anyone knows of any store that would be great

    Thanks

  11. Thanks everyone, my friends were able to get the price down. They had charged us for taking care of a 40' container, but the 40' was forced on me as they were out of 20' so we were able to get a better deal, not much but they didn't think we should keep it there much longer as someone might get some even greater ideas at customs, and yeah didn't want to pay any storage fees.

To answer some questions, Rama used to offer door to door, my friends had used them before with good result so I didn't see any reason to change, but they didn't offer the door to door anymore and I should have checked around to see other options. So no I didn't do it to get it cheaper, it was just what they had and I couldn't wait any longer to get the stuff out of US as there is many things in there I needed ASAP

  12. Just regular house hold goods, sofa, computer, TV, clothing, all things from kitchen, some other tables and chairs, a bike, a bed and things like that. As for VISA my GF have been in the US for the last 5+ years and was studding and last 2 years also working. Should I look for a clearing agent and some freight forwarder or just eat the 40,000 ??

    Thanks

  13. Hi, we just received our container at Bangkok and used Rama from Oakland CA to ship everything here. We put everything under my gf name as she has been in US for many years. Now we contacted Rama here in bkk to get it all out and they wanted 5400 bath for documentations, and then 38000 bath to transport it to our house in BKK, which is not far from Bkk container. Can anyone tell me if that is a good price or we should look for someone else and if so any suggestions, I'm in bit of a hurry so I might have missed to give you guys some info but pls ask if so

    Thanks

  14. There was a thread a while ago about a guy successfully importing a Triumph TR6 shell from the UK.

Every import a car thread brings out all the armchair customs agents / freight forwarders who will post stupid negative comments, anyone who's been here long enough knows anything is possible if you have enough money and/or know the right people.

I have seen several cars that have been recently imported from the UK, I was speaking to the owner of this Jag last week (dodgy nak leng type), he was a bit elusive about the details but said it was difficult and he paid 300%, (of exactly what I'm not sure as it looks like the car has Isuzu number plates and had no tax disc) but it is possible. Whether it's actually worth it is an entirely different question and one only you can answer.

There is also a Ford Ka in Jomtien than used to be on UK plates, now it is Thai registered.

It would be good to have a real "Car Import Thread" on ThaiVisa, somebody actually going through the process and posting the details.

    Regards

    Thanks for the info :)

Well if I go through with it then I will post here for sure as I don't like to just hear it is impossible, well it has been done so it has to be possible. Will there be headaches, yes I'm sure it will, but so is it to bring a car to almost any country, so if you don't want any trouble, just buy a new car and be happy. But in my case it is a car I have been building up for some time, and just don't want to start all over and I don't think it would be easy to find a Nissan 350Z shell in Thailand or even a crashed one that I can build on again, don't want a new one as I will replace most of the parts anyway and that would just be waisting a lot of money and time.

    Thanks Micael

  15. You mean people that post reality that does not fit your mindset, I will stay out(maybe) along with almost everybody else, presumably thev'e got fed up replying to import my car threads(good) any way have sweet ones.

I guess you have a boring life and feel a need to chop down on other people, feel a bit sad for you, just one advise, get a life.

Your post had nothing to do with mindset, just a negative posting nothing else, just hate a**holes that have nothing to bring to a post, but still need to post. Could it be that other people just don't know the answer and instead of being a**holes they just don't post.

If you can find a post in the forum that talks about bring in a car shell from Japan, please feel free to point that one out to me or else shut up.

  16. Bye Bye Dream.

So why bye bye dream, a very good answer there

So it is all just about what initial value they will put on the car and after that still the 314% taxes.

Oh well i guess I'm better of calling Thai customs and ask how they will estimate the value and what taxes they will use, was just hoping someone would know.

How about road safety and all, anyone knows that process well or?? and the costs.

Maybe I should just bring the whole car from Japan

    Regards Micael

Based on the number of posts "how do i import my treasured old car into Thailand", the taxation/confiscation replies they get and the number of that type of vehicle in the "what car do you drive "threads. So bye bye dream i think is appropriate caption but please prove me wrong.

Well there are always people like u in all forums, who seems to only be able to post crap in other threads in stead of helping, so if u don't have any good info to post stay out of my thread.

The main reason for grey importers to be able to sell at lower price than maindealers, is importing on low value and low engine spec/fake hp.

in 2009 importduty/excise tax on japan made cars over 3500cc/290hp was reduced, since they dont compete with thai made cars

    Thanks katabeachbum

I will look in to that info as my car falls in to that category

    Regards Micael

  18. Hi, not sure if this has been covered before or not, but I couldn't find it, just something about kit cars.

Well i would like to bring in a car shell from Japan and use the parts that I brought with me from US on this shell, would this be possible or ?? and most of all what would I be taxed on and to what rate, not the 314% for over 3 liters I hope :)

    Thanks MIcael

  19. Hi I just wonder if someone have the Thai version of the 200W and could tell me about the keyboard for Thai. I know you can make your own keyboard with Thai for the 200W, but then you will have 2 keyboards to switch between. How is this on the Thai version, will you have 2 keyboards here to or just 1, don't really see how it can be only one as there are so many characters in Thai so I don't see how they would all fit in on one page.

    Regards Micael
