  1. Loss of Face in Thailand :) , you gotta be kidding, its a myth. I would never borrow money from anyone as I think that is a loss of face, yet Thais are always sponging off people and not paying it back. Another example is one of the common professions amongst women, that is another area that shows they just dont have any pride or care about loosing face.

"LOSS OF FACE" is the most important in Thailand involving all other things and making all other things less relevant.

Ichecked this out many times during my stay here in the Kngdom.....

  2. OMG, don't let me hear anyone talk about 'government crimes' after seeing this disgusting picture.

What was the parent of this child hoping for in doing this criminally insane act? It only takes one red guard to spot a media sensation in the making.

Those of you still supporting the reds, do you want a country that is led by people who would do something as irresponsible as this? What do you think they will care for you, if this is all they care for their own children?

    post-102593-1274083014_thumb.jpg

Life is considered cheap by many people in Thailand

  3. BBC reporting now much more balanced.

Sean Boonpracond speaking for the reds admitted some of the reds are armed.

He also failed to answer BBC question "why don't you just leave"?

He also claimed most foreigners supported the reds. (Well I for one do not)

Video of young Thai thugs building piles of tyres for burning. Are these people on Yaba or what?

Repeated polling here at Thaivisa.com over years now definitely shows that the VAST MAJORITY of foreigners in Thailand do NOT support the red shirt/Thaksin movement. The vast majority DO support social reforms of many kinds here but that is NOT the same thing as supporting the red shirt violent insurgency make Thaksin dictator movement.

As another poster stated, if the red insurgents and their more innocent fellow travelers want to avoid violence, just walk away. At this point because of the war that they declared and started, they may have to wave a white flag, but that is their fault.

i agree with all my heart

  4. We are going to use the jet pump type, brandname Hitachi model DT-P300GP(PJ). PJ stands for Parallel Jet. I am quoted a price of 8300 THB, in Nong Phai, about 300 km north of Bangkok.

    url : http://www.hitachiconsumer.com.my/home/DT-P300GP.asp

    url : http://www.hitachi-th.com/hitachi_new/prod...ameEn〈=

and then there is the pump of brand Lucky Star model ?, see thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Lucky-Star-D...mp-t175193.html

    regards,

    Leo

  5. I bought a solar charger at AMORN in ZEER Market, i do not remember the price somewhere beteween 500 - 1000 THB.

I extended the wiring so i could place the solar cell on top of the roof this way the battery not only keeps its charge it

    also stays health.

Of course depends on your car and battery, when I looked about 3 years ago, I could buy 2 brand new batteries from Honda for the price of a battery charger.

I ended up buying a solar one that plugs into the cigarette lighter.. Noticed others in the Village that have 2 or more cars and one not used much get a man on a motorbike come and collect and recharge, the man brings it back and refits, did ask charge is 40-50 baht.

So you could have a garage come and recharge it about 400+ times for the price of a battery charger.

Just another item I should have packed to come here not given away when I moved here.

Before you ask, the solar one that plugs into the cigarette lighter a friend bought on the Malayian boarder, no idea if they are in Thailand yet.

  6. the leaders are not running away because they are afraid. this way when something out of the ordinary happens they can claim they did not start this because they were not there :)

Let the paid workers possibly sacrifice themselves, while their so-called leaders flee like rats. Cowards one and all, if they believed in themselves and were sincere about wanting only peaceful protests, they wouldn't be running. Bunch of liars and thieves.
  7. Surely many of you will find me hopelessly romantic,

but here is my opinion :

THEY NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF FINANCIALLY!

    ============================================

no, but in the Asean culture the family, mom and dad,

take care of her and in return she HAS TO take care of them

Of course she still makes very little income.

    ==============================================

little income is not important, important is that she takes care of her family

telling her not work implies immediate that you will provide !!!

if she loves you she will just be in shock how to combine this

(her responsibility for her family and her love for you)

When I say she came home drunk,

No, what exactly is up? What exactly was she doing

    ==================================================

in my opinion, trying to get the answer

I don't understand why she would flat out tell me

she has a new boyfriend though.

    =================================================

she says so to hurt you, so YOU will break the link

between the two of you, she cannot because she loves

    you too much

Second, if we were to get married, ......

    =========================================

In Thailand, often the girl bring the BF to a temple

and a simple ritual follows and then in the eyes of the

family the two of you are married, and there is no

LOOSE OF FACE for the girl (and her family !!!!)

This may also have happened to you

I do want her back, and i talk to her sister.

    =============================================

    good you did that !!!

I told my wife that i will take care of her and of all people in her heart.

When back home and something need to be done, i go out with one of the brothers

buy the materials and work together to fix things. No need to pour out a lot of

money. One time we left her parents home and i told my wife to give some more money to

mom. My wife said yes, but on the way home she confessed not to have given the money,

because she thought i did not have enough for myself.

And for sure not all people in her heart are in my heart ....

Also please take the book "Thailand Fever" with a pinch, no a ton of salt.

It does not apply to all people and will most certain leave your sweetheart very confused

  8. Can you give me address and/or telephone of this farmer ? I have been trying to grow figs from seeds, but up to now still no success

    Kind regards,

    Leo.

My wife wants to grow figs and has bought a variety of species to start. She read about a Thai farmer growing figs commercially, with some success, so we went to visit him in Pichit a couple of weeks ago. He said his best success comes from grafting his various fruit species on to local species fig tree, and I noticed almost all his rees were growing under plastic to ward off birds and excessive moisture.
  9. I went to Penang in October, went to one of the bureaus that offer visa renewal services, paid them 5 RM ( = 50 THB) and I could collect my pasport in the afternoon.

I just checked AIRASIA website for a retour ticket from Bangkok to Penang just before Christmas costs about 10.000 THB. I suggest stay in one of the hotels one night and return next day.

If you go to the agency in time on the arrival day you get your pasport back same day otherwise next day.

  10. My way to stop smoking was the following :

    - reason to stop : all the nagging around me about smoking

    - i decided to break my personal record and then stop

    - my goal was to smoke two bags of tobacco per day

    - one rolled cigarette lasts about 15 minutes

    - i can roll between 25 and 30 cigarettes from one bag

    - that meant i had to smoke between 750 and 900 minutes per day :D

It took me about 3 months to get to smoke that much cigarettes. In that times smoking

turned into an obsession, while i was smoking one cigarette i was already rolling the next one.

I watched myself smoking and rolling with humor. How in the world was i going to succeed ?

One day I reached my target and with a smile i stopped that moment !

In the following few months i occasionally accepted a cigar from one of friends to keep him company

and then one day i decided not to smoke anymore, not even occasionally. That all happened 6 years ago.

I can still accept other people smoking in my area, sometimes i enjoy and sometimes the smell

bothers me, but i am not complaining.

As for your husband, please let him decide for himself :)

  11. Back in Holland i worked some time for an tobacco importing company.

They gave me some of their tobacco leaves which i mixed with the regular

Dutch tobacco ( Drum, Van Nelle ). That added great taste to it.

I asked them how come and they replied that the industry mixes a lot of stuff

    into the endproduct.

So i suggest you make your own mixture.of rolling tobacco :)

  12. Just curious, because i am travelling next month

So i found a map at

    http://2bangkok.com/2bangkok/MassTransit/m...0Plan%207.5.pdf

and a more specific one at :

    http://2bangkok.com/2bangkok/MassTransit/m...0Map%206.11.pdf

    found at http://www.bangkokairporttrain.com/index.html

    quote

  13. anyway , thailand is dump now , after all the red shirst vs yellow shirts , the shut down of the airport , the crap exhange rate , Bali is so more upmarket for an expat , lovely upmarket shops and coffe houses in seminyak , virtually no sleaze , and so beautiful on the eye is the countryside, on the whole so more sophisticated and less commercial than thailand

i think Nucag, your posts on this topic are somewhat contradicting.

As for comparing Thailand to Bali :

We, my wife and I, spent one month in Bali, cannot say we went everywhere, but we did tour all main areas. We drove around the island, and these are our findings :

    1. infrastructure of Bali is really bad, the roads are badly maintained, traffic more dangerous than anywhere in Thailand

    2. go shopping somewhere and someone appears waving a parking ticket at you, even on a public road !

    3. at main attractions, when we left our car, we were 'invited' to buy goods, or go visit something and these people are difficult to shake off

    4. go eat in a restaurant, and get the bill but have the surprise : 21 % for service and VAT added on top

    5. the food in the restaurants and the small shops are of minor quality, compared to Thailand, variety of food also less than in Thailand

The price of water charged in the restaurant is ridiculous, please go to a shop buy water and bring with you

    6. fast internet, i haven't seen it and many times i did not want to use the htpps service because i did not trust the establisment.

    7. prices for Farang always higher, but i must say my wife (Thai) had to pay same high price. In Thailand only Farang pay more, in Bali

    all strangers pay more.

    8. we went to Seminyak and our experience is not same yours, prices overrated. We did see the dolphins though

    9. Money exchange : change your money in Denpassar, becauses in other area there is no opportunity to exchange your money or they

charge you extra. There are banks, but sorry no exchange, please go to ATM ( 15 to 60 km away, many times mall functioning). Do not

change more than you need because the exchange back into THB is terrible, you loose 50%

(i think that says something about the stability of the visiting country).

All in all, we were very disappointed, but i will go back there because of some of the lovely people i met. And we do understand what is

going on in Bali. The same applies for Thailand.

    Kind regards,

    Leo.

  14. OK probably just some DNS problems then...hopefully will get better soon. I want to download the rest of House :)

I have my connection with TOT (in Phetchabun) and get DNS not available a lot of the time. Calling helpdesk and telling them,

get many times a reaction of surprise. And then the promise to sort it out in the evening . . . (they actually do sort it out ).

The new version of COMODO firewall gives you the option to use their DNS (for free), bypassing any Thai DNS service :D

  15. Hi Matt,

I am living in the RIVER BREEZE apartment for some months now. Excellent environment and quiet, this place is situated in NONTHABURY.

Easy access to the center by the ferry (the Nonthabury pier is a 2 minute walk from here).

their website is at www riverbreeze ob tc ( i am still not allowed to post an URL, wow ! what childish ! )

    Good luck,

    Leo.

  16. @tangoll

Your laptop wireless card has probably an INTEL chipset. If so try to install the latest software available from the Intel website.

Included is a diagnostics tool that will narrow down your problem(s).

The software is named : PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility

This URL is a good start (provided you have an Intel wireless card) www intel com = support = wireless = wlan = sb = CS-010623.htm

    Kind regards,

    Leo.

PS i am not allowed to post an URL :o

  17. What is wrong with the car? Why do you need to rebuild the engine? It doesn't sound that old.

I also have an Isuzu D-max of 2006 and it sometimes refuses to start you hear a click when you turn the ignition but nothing happens.

@danboksida1 : to me this sounds like the relais of the startermotor does not work well. When you turn the ignitionkey the weel of the startermotor is pulled into position and at the same time the big relais is operated to start the flow of current to the startermotor. When the shaft is dirty it halts before operating the big relais. It happens often in Europe because of corrosion.

Take a small hammer and hit the startermotor ONE time :o , it will release the shaft and then you can start again :D .

I hope this helps, regards Leo.
