It could be making the situation worse.  Geography also is a culprit.  A similar effect to Chiang Mai happens to New Delhi, India every winter due to a naturally occurring temperature inversion.

For most Thais, Thailand is not so cheap to live.   

As a foreigner with dollars, pounds, etc, it's easy to forget this.  

I wasn't off the boat 5 minutes on Koh Tao before I was offered a motorbike for 150B a day.   

When I first went there in 2010 there were two places to rent a motorbike.   Now, nearly every hotel and travel agency seems to rent them on the island.   I did rent one for a day and then decided I didn't want to contribute to the traffic and so walked the rest of my time there. 

I might not go back again.  

I'm sure the song will appeal to the kind of foreigner who visits for two weeks and returns home believing they've seen "the real Thailand." 

Almost feel sorry for them. 

I called one taxi driver that took me to Swampy (and succeeded in ripping me off around 200 baht)  "jai dam" just as I closed the door. 

I could tell by the expression on his face that he understood what I said (despite my accent).   Maybe he lost a little sleep over it.

I think the school was responsible for informing immigration.    They can be fined.   I'm not sure about your responsibility, however.    There are posters here who know a lot more than I do and can hopefully answer your question more completely.

Remember that nice cool air we got a couple days ago . . ?

It formed a (not so nice) temperature inversion.   

Twice in Bangkok I've been in a taxi where the driver has fallen asleep during a red light.

Many drivers work multiple shifts to make any money.  

I crossed into Thailand (by land, visa exempt) at Nong Khai two weeks ago and had no problems (except that the line was pretty long).  I've had several previous covid extensions.   Was in Laos 2 nights.     

If I ever get bitten by a soi dog, I'll not only get the vaccine shots (which are relatively painless these days), but also antiserum injected close to the bite sit.   Antiserum is a lot more expensive, but rabies is nothing to mess around with.

I'm considering doing the same, or maybe instead applying for a tourist visa at the Thai embassy in Vientiane.   

Several years ago, it was pretty straightforward.  Two days in and out.  This was before they started requiring appointments.    Does anyone know if Thai immigration has gotten more strict with issuing tourist visas in Vientiane (requiring proof of savings, place to stay, etc) or is it about the same?
