Every few years we get termites swarming after sundown. When this happens we always end up with fifty to a hundred in the upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms. They just seem to appear out of nowhere. At first I thought they may be coming up through the drains but have now found that they come from the downlighting. They come in even before the lights are turned on. When it happened a couple of nights ago I went up into the attic space to see what I could see. Nothing noticeable at first but when I started looking under the fiberglass insulation I did see a couple. There is supposed to be screening covering all the space where the roof overhangs but I was unable to inspect it all.  Obviously there must be an opening somewhere. So after all that rambling here is my question. Is it possible that they could establish a colony in that space?  There doesn’t seem to be any thing for them to feed on.  There is just roof tile, cement, fiberglass insulation and sheet rock up there.  Might it be possible that they are eating the paper backing off the sheet rock somewhere under the insulation?  What are the usual methods of extermination used in Thailand in case things get out of hand in the future?  I’ve never seen a house tented here.

We have the same problem, they appeared couple days ago and also saw them coming from the ceiling and downlighting on the 2nd floor of the house.  Looked outside and saw the insect screen that over hangs our roof had holes in a couple places, I figure that is how they are getting in as I rarely see any downstairs.  Will be getting it patched and inspected in a few days so hopefully it helps.

I asked our extermination company and they said unfortunately there's not much we can do expect try to make our house as dark as possible when they arrive.  Was told chances of a colony is very slim because they only live for a couple hours and outside the time they arrive I have never seen one in our house.

Basically we towed the car back to Star Flag, they fixed it. I paid the bill, then told my contact there of the costs I incurred to deal with this and that I expect to be reimbursed. They said it was a mistake and didn't reimburse me for my costs. It's not worth chasing beyond that.

I didn't really care about the money but out of principle if they didn't compensate me I wouldn't do business with them again. I was in the process of buying a new S class at the time (which my contact there knew about) so the way they handled this lost them a sale.

Shortly after, the 2nd battery failed as well. We brought the car to Benz Taling Chan instead. Sorted it out very quickly and haven't had any issues since. It was my first time there but I was really impressed with the service. They were ready on time.

Star Flag is known to be one of the worse dealers and service centers for Mercedes.  Just about everyone I know have had a bad experience dealing with them.  I was in the market for one of the AMG models and contacted them for information and they never got back to me, so went to the showroom and they couldn't be less interested in selling me a car.

I use spotify, on my mobile. I pay for it and I have a mobile data package. So i stream music on my phone that goes to the car audio. Works perfect. There is also a free version of spotify only I am not sure you can download songs with the free version. You can play them but then you need a data package on your phone.

I'm also using Spotify off my cousin's shared plan and like it, another option could be Apple Music.  Selection is pretty much the same as Spotify and you get the first 3 months free.

  4. Don’t have a 5G phone but did try speed test on a Galaxy S20 Ultra at an AIS shop, speeds were averaging around 1 gbps.  A friend of mine also uses the S20 Ultra on True and on 5G got around 300-400 mbps.

  5. I think a majority of posters think that Thai Chana is an app everyone needs to download on their phones.  It is not. at least not right now.

Before you go in the malls or supermarket, you scan a QR code and it opens a website that shows time and name of shop, enter your phone number and check in.  You could probably use a random number because no one actually checks it.  And when you leave scan the code and checkout.

Glad to have HBO Go and their live channels back, good value at just THB 149 too.  Hopefully they will bring the Thai subtitles with English audio and English subtitles with Thai audio options to the app too, they had it when they were using AIS as the service provider so I'd imagine (hope) it's only matter of time.

Just downloaded the app on my iPhone and signed up for free trial, so far pretty impressed.  Has the option to turn on/off subtitles and change audio language similar to Netflix, and from what I can tell nothing seems censored.

Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be and for Apple TV or my LG Smart TV but you and Airplay or cast it from the app.

  7. Hopefully can subscribe to HBO separately without the internet.  Had 3BB Fiber before and my experience with them was terrible.   Speeds never reached what was advertised and their customer service and call center are seemed clueless when dealing with them.

  8. I emailed HBO Asia when AIS announce they were dropping HBO asking them to consider launching HBO GO in as a stand-alone service like Netflix.

They actually replied a couple days ago saying they would make surprise announcement for Thailand soon.

So my guess is that we’re getting HBO GO as a stand-alone without have to subscribe to True or AIS.

  9. Anyone experiencing problems with AIS Fiber at the moment?  I’m in Laksi/Ngamwongwan area and it has been down since 3pm.  Got an SMS saying it should fixed by 7pm, but just received another SMS saying it would be working by 8am tomorrow.  Wondering if this an area wide issue.

  10. There's supposed to be two Apple stores opening, one at Icon Siam which seem to be all but confirmed and another in front of Central World.  There are pictures circulating online of the Icon Siam location that shows the Apple logo on the store front.

The Central World location has a lot of activity, an will be underground the the New York location.

I have no idea what's going on with this, and am not inclined to take the time to figure it out.

But it seemed to me, in the original thread on this, there was an assertion that "pedo" is some kind of common term/slang used among divers as in torpedo man.

Can anyone with diving experience chime in on whether "pedo" has a different/alternate slang meaning among that particular group?

I was talking to friend of mine about this and he told me "pedo" is short for torpedo.  I'm not sure if he into diving, but this is the second time I heard it.

One of my two neutered new boxes, the one that had the HooQ problem, will not stream all TV channels this morning...the other neutered new box no problem.

Since the neutering the one box not streaming all channels was streaming "all" channels up until this morning when I turned in on.  I would say it's not streaming around 20% of the channels...free-to-all or premium channels.   And it still streams HooQ.  The other box no problems streaming all channels.

Have done a hard reboot of the box a couple of times....rebooted the router...no joy.

I called the problem into AIS a few minutes ago....see what happens....now time to do a grocery run.

Have a similar issue after update, but after about an hour or so it went back to normal.

The one problem that I can't seem to fix is the internet connection, ever since the update both of new boxes are having connection issues.  When watching TV or HBO GO the video freezes and sometimes the box restarts about 5-6 times a day.  One box is connected via LAN and the other wifi.  Before the update, rarely had any problems with the box.

Called AIS and they told me there have been other people calling in with the same issue, and that a technician will call me back.

    There are boatloads of reviews on Thai social media, all positive. AIS has a ton of roaming partners in the U.K.: O2 UK / Bt Cellnet / Cellnet / VODAFONE UK / voda UK / EE / 234 30 / T-Mobile / one2one / TMO UK / T-Mobile UK / ORANGE /234 33 / 234 30/ T-Mobile / one2one / TMO UK / T-Mobile UK

I've used Sim2Fly, and DTAC's SIM Go Inter, successfully in a number of Asian countries. Sure it's a bit more expensive but you do have a known good working SIM/number with data BEFORE you leave Thailand and can hit the ground running.

    But I did say...

I too have used Sim2Fly on almost all of my trips to Europe and Asia and never had an issue in terms of coverage and speeds.  Was able to make both voice and video calls using Line without problems, and for me 4GB of 4G speeds was more than enough for 2 weeks.

Can't say anything about the Sim2Fly in the UK because it wasn't available the last time I went, but I would use the Sim2Fly when I go back.

  14. This afternoon I got a SMS from AIS apologizing for it being down yesterday, what surprised me was that they said they would give discount for the day that would be prorated in next months statement.  Should note that I did try to call when it went down but didn't talk to anyone, so that was nice of them.

Whenever I dealt with 3 BB, they said "up to" 20, 100 or whatsoever Mbps. They never guaranteed anything. Complaints, even in writing, will fall on deaf ears, or they sent Mr. Incompetent to check my setup. Today I am much happier with AIS fibre.

A friend of my has the same experience with them, he had the 200/100 plan but the fastest he was able to get was 90-100 mbps.  When he called 3BB to complain they told him the only way to get 200 is plug an ethernet cable directly into the device, and that on wifi they throttle the speeds by 40% which seems like total BS.

  16. Normally It's pretty solid and never had any major issues, but since yesterday it has been down all day.  Gave them a call and was told that it is a wide outage in my area, and still don't know wen it will be fixed.

Any one in Laksi/Changwattana using AIS Fiber have same problem?

    Hi Arkom,

Thanks for the link - I had never heard of that before.  Indeed it is much cheaper than their data roaming packages.  But it effectively gives you a new number so does it effect your WhatsApp account, Viber, Line etc?

I don't use WhatApp or Viber that much but I have been able to use it when I use the Sim.  As for Line my account is not linked to my AIS number so dont have any issues using it when use a new SIM card.

  18. Might want to take a look at AIS sim2fly, I use it whenever I travel abroad.  It's not unlimited but significantly cheaper than their roaming package.

    http://www.ais.co.th/roaming/sim2fly/en/

The 899 THB is good for 15  days and gives you 4GB of 15 days in most European and Asian countries, Australia and the US.  Alternatively they also have the Asia/Australia plan for 399 THB for 8 days. The sim itself is valid for 90 days, and just need to top it off to keep it active.
