  1. Has anyone been to their brunch lately?

Never been and would like to give it a try as heard that its one of the best in Bangkok, but it seems like the menu was recently changed and from the looks of it seems kinda limited.

  2. To answer your question: on CTH not too much commercials, but between programs, and mostly from the actual channel.

I do mainly view Fox Premium movies , Sky News and BPL,

Thanks, might make the switch but mostly watch HBO, Discovery, History and Nat Geo. I don't mind the commercials if it's from the actual channels but when True started add their own it gets really annoying.

  3. If you are American, you will find it more difficult to open an account. Thai banks may have to report details to American agencies if requested. This is onerous for Thai banks so they prefer to avoid U.S. customers.

I'm sure you can reference numerous ThaiVisa posts for folks who have been refused Thai bank accounts because they are American--NOT!! Sure, you can find quite a few posts of farangs who had a hard time finding a branch that would open an account for them, but these farangs were of various nationalities and just ran up against the age old problem that some Thai bank branches are not farang friendly....just don't want their business. Fortunately, most branches are not like that.

Oh, by the way, I'm American and since FATCA has been around I've opened a bank account at Bangkok Bank and Krungsri Bank....just a couple extra easy forms to complete. You can find quite a few of such posts from Americans in the variety of Chicken Little threads regarding FATCA.

Could you offer what banks you found the easiest to work with and what documentation they might require ? Thank you in advance.

Bangkok Bank, Kaiskorn Bank and Siam Commerical Bank (SCB) seem to be the ones most farangs go with based on posts I read on ThaiVisa, but you still see plenty of farangs going with many other Thai banks. I have accounts with Bangkok Bank and Krungsri Bank...happy with both. My wife who is dual citizen (American and Thai) also has an account with KrungThai Bank...works just fine. Bangkok Bank also has special, lower cost methods for some nationalities to transfer money from their home country bank to a Bangkok Bank account...like for Americans Bangkok Bank is the only Thai bank with the ability to accomplish low cost inbound ACH transfers....that can reduce a person's money transfer fees a lot in comparison to most pricey SWIFT fees.

In terms of documentation needed: just your passport and preferably a work permit or long term visa; however, but, plenty will open accounts with just a tourist visa or the 30 day entry stamp you get at the airport. It will vary from branch to branch....most are farang friendly, but some seem to just not want farang business. If one branch turns you down, just walk down the soi and try the next branch.

Curious to know about your wife, I am also dual citizen (Thai/American), is she allowed to open all types of accounts? I have no problems opening a savings of fixed interest accounts.

But when it comes to ones that are tax free, was told I can not open it.

On side note, the FATCA form is required for anyone opening a bank account, Thai citizens included.

  4. Lately there seems to be an overload of Thai commercials on Fox Movies HD, AXN, Discovery Channels (SD), and National Geographic (SD) which is really annoying considering we are paying to watch these channels.

I'm curious to know if anyone that is using CTH is seeing the same thing?

  5. Had the similar problem, bought a bag of chips and was charged 50 THB more than the price tag. When I told them they went to check, came bag with the tag and said it was wrong and refused to honor it.

Ironically there was a sign at the register saying if the price tags are wrong, they would give it to customer for free.

Had a similar experience at Tops, but surprisingly they gave me the product for free.

  6. Posting this for my cousin.

A little background, my cousin has both Thai and US citizenship, he married a Thai woman with both Thai and Australian citizenship. They have a daughter that who is 12 years old, with Thai, US and Australian passports. They have have filed for divorce here in Thailand, this was about 5 years ago, but are still legally married in the US.

Here is the situation, for the past two years his daughter had been living the US with her uncle (cousin's brother), where she had been attending public school in Santa Moncia, CA. My cousin had paid for schooling expenses, while her uncle provided basically everything else. Whenever her mother would visit in California, my other cousin provided her with a place to stay, a car to use and even opened a credit card for her to use for food and other items.

Her mother is now unemployed and has been forced to moved back to Australia to live with her family, but insisted on taking his daughter with her. They had signed agreement that if his daughter were to move to Australia then all of her expenses would have to be taken care of by her mother and her family. Part of the agreement is that she was supposed to be enrolled in a public school, but ended up in private one. She would also be allowed to to fly back to Thailand to visit him during school breaks, he would be the one to pay of the tickets.

Now that is getting close to Christmas and New Years break, her mother will not let his daughter fly back unless he pays for her school. From my understanding she is not allowed to talk to him or any of his family members unless her mother of other family members are present.

My cousin has come to the conclusion that he will have to go to court to fight for custody, because it seems like he will not get to see his daughter again.

In this situation, what country would it be easiest to get the process started?

Thanks and if anything isn't clear please let me know.

  7. try the pet store opposite K Village on Sukhumvit 26.

You could call them first, I believe they speak English. Its the largest pet store I have seen in Bangkok, and has a wide range of litters including a weird crystal one my cat hated at first, because it feels like like stones I suppose, but now loves (mixed with a bit of typical litter material).

Thanks, actually found a Pet Lovers Centre. Happened to go take look and they had it.

  8. For my condo renovation which involved knocking out all of the existing walls and stripping it back to bare concrete, redoing electrical plumbing etc, I paid 2,000 psm for one of Thailands top architects. It worked out to roughly 5% of the total project costs.

The blue prints and design speciation drawings alone are 62 pages not including tender doc's.

Thanks for that, if you don't mind me asking but how big your condo?

  9. I know that I can probably get the job done cheaper, but when the job is finished it will probably be similar to every house in my development. I don't mind paying extra for the wow factor you get when stepping through the door, so it stands out from the other houses. So inside will almost be a new layout with some walls taken down and light rewired ect...

I just want to know that at the end of day I am not being overcharged and price is reasonable.

  10. I would think that if its just one iPhone 6 it wouldn't be a problem, my brother bought 2 iPhone 5s (not the 5S) from the US when they were launched for my cousin with no problems.

I would think that if its just one iPhone 6 there wouldn't be any problems, my brother bought 2 iPhone 5s (not the 5S) from the US when they were launched for my cousin with no problems.

However it were multiple phones, say 5 or more, I could see a issue with customs.

  11. Thanks for the answers people. I visited 3bb at central world today and unfortunately they can't bring the fiber optic line to my condo. The say the nearest connection point is 500 meters away so it's too far. I offered to pay for it but still no. They did offer me the 16gb adsl connection but I will wait until my condo renovations are finished before deciding.

The people at 3bb were very helpful and even suggested that if my condo was an older building then it may be the internal phone lines that are the problem so it may not make a difference if I change from true to 3bb.

On another thread a poster recommended getting 2 different providers and using a multiplex ( or something) router to speed things up so I'll look into that as well. I don't mind the cost , I just want reasonably fast and reliable internet. I find it quite frustrating as I live smack bang in downtown Bangkok and I can't get as good internet as my place in phuket which is way outside if the major population centers of the island.

I was told by 3BB that for fiber, the maximum distance from the connection point is 500 meters so you should be ok. I would ask them to send a technician to your condo to visually check. My house is a little over 500 meters from the connection point and they installed my fiber after they sent a technician to check and told me they can do it.
