  1. You'll have to wait for the Thai and English announcements re: that you will be charged for the call; 9 baht/min for +1/001, 6 baht/min for 009.

The AT&T access scheme, which is free of charge, only works if the business you're calling has enabled international access, most 800/888 are not so enabled.

American Express will accept collect calls from AT&T. But I ususally call on the company's non-toll free #.

Also, I always try and find out the non toll-free numbers, it will save you having to be on hold longer than necessary if you are paying for the call.

  2. you watch a movie if thailand comes up its 99% of the time at the end of a prostitute or pedophile joke

do the Thai people care about this reputation?

go to any asia country and mention Thai and its always wink wink

why does thailand have to be known as the worlds whorehouse???

So what should it be known for?

Breakthroughs in medicine? Inventions? Technology? Can you give me one thing that Thailand/Thai people have come up with or done to make the world a better place? Any Thai Nobel prize winners?

Yes, it does have a great cuisine. Interesting temples. Decent (not great) beach areas.

If there is anything Thailand does well, it's their sex industry. They've taken it to a art form, think about the soapy body to body massages. If there is anything Thailand ought to promote, it's that. I think they ought to give the farang entertainment areas a good facelift. Look at some of those upscale type pleasure palaces for Thais on Ratchada Rd.

Let's face it. The majority of Thais follow orders well. Most Thais are not inquisitive, there not taught that in school. They're not taught problem solving, how to take inititive. I know many University graduates, the majority are idiots. They walk away with a degree, not knowing much more than when they walked in. I have friends who teach at the University level, I've sat in on classes. They are nothing like classes in the West. It's that whole 'kreng jai' thing.

  3. Another solution, for more a maintenance type schedule, is to put around 15 drops of hydrogen peroxide on each ear once a week.

I buy a 3 ml. syringe from a pharmacy. Pour some of the peroxide into the bottle cap, draw the liquid up into the syringe, tilt your head, put some of the peroxide into your ear, let it sit for 3-5 minutes. Repeat for the other ear.

I think it helps prevent the wax build up.

  4. Mr. T's contact details are in this thread:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Suvarnabhumi...ya-t201343.html

Telephone or e-mail him, you might be pleasantly surprised.

When we moved from Jomtien to Udon in Feb. '06, we used one of his mini-vans and drivers to transport me and my wife

and some personal items we didn't want traveling in the large moving truck.

Jomtien to Udon (approx. 9 hours w/stops), 6000 baht.

  5. - well almost, something like 2 500 thb + tips, sure express tolls inc. :o

Think i'll stick with the bus at 110 bht. 2390 can go quite a long way in Pattaya.

Yes, 2390 can go a long way anywhere in the LOS. But, I stated, I paid Mr. T 1150, from Don Muang to Pattaya, I would think Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya would be less since it is a shorter distance & time.

However, the OP stated he was arriving at 23:00.

Are there buses leaving the airport for Pattaya after midnight?

  6. One thing about tourism here in SEA that has always perplexed me, is this. Why when tourism goes down, one very rarely can find more promotions on packages, hotels, flights, etc. The prices stay fixed, sometimes even go up. I guess it's all part of this "mysterious Asian mindset". We'll never understand the full answer, sort of like with our Thai wifes :o

I've been checking on the prices of packages to Singapore, they're the same price, some are higher.

I worked in the visitor industry in Hawaii for over 22 years. When we had slumps in the industry, due to any number of causes. Hotels, airlines, car rentals, attractions, etc. all would be scrambling to put together special deals & packages. The "fly/hotel/car packages" would be extremely popular. It's better to rent a room, rent a car at 30%, 40%, or 50% off than let them sit empty.

  7. ....Sananwan Palace is right close to the new Airport,...Standard room was only around 300 baht, has swimming pool and friendly staff,is clean and has all the basics,.... www.bangpli.com you can find further deatails

I also have stayed here, http://bangpli.com/sananwan.htm

I went with the 500 baht room.

    Perfect for a short stay.

The owner, Wilaiwan, 081-864-4615, speaks perfect English. She is married to a Brit, John.

  8. Or, better to be safe than sorry. Telephone in advance to Mr. T, +66-38-720-318 or +66-81-258-7716. Mr. T operates Pattaya's most reliable and efficient driving service. I've used the service for years and one of Mr. T's drivers have always been there at the appointed time and place and driving a fairly new car.

Do you really want to be haggling at 23:00 after a 12 hour journey?

The last time I used him, May '08, was from Don Muang to Pattaya, 1150 including tolls. I would imagine, Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya would be less.

  9. I've seen some of the smaller ones like Krups at the Robinsons here in Udon. But, a little expensive,

    between 1600-2000 baht.

I use a blender, cost me around 800 baht. I alternate the speeds from low to high to low, about 10 seconds on each speed. I only grind three tablespoons at a time. Tap the base of the container a few times on a counter top to loosen the grinds.

May take you a few times to figure out the grind you prefer.

  10. I don't have the answer, but I can give you two prices on litres of Single Malt Scotch at Duty Free arrivals Bkk.

One litre of The Macallan 12 year old: 1620 baht.

One litre of Laphroaig 10 year old: 1440 baht.

So now you have some prices to compare.

Also, the prices and variety at departures and arrivals are the same, so you can compare before you depart.

  11. I use the CDMA from C.A.T. Been happy with it for one year. I also live about 7kms west of the city center.

As far as the technical stuff goes, I'm not qualified to answer. I just use it for general surfing. I don't download movies or any other large downloads.

C.A.T. office is located on Udon Dutsadi Rd. (highway #2), between Wattana Nuwong Rd. and the Clock Tower Circle.

  12. From another forum:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Got my tickets today for Aug 12-28 for $160 Clk-Bkk roundtrip from Amega Travel over in the Horizon Hill hotel. Went in there to price a ticket to Cairo (long story) but came out with a ticket to Bangkok instead LOL.

    A few things to know:

They only fly Tues, Thurs & Sat.

Flight leaves 10:30 from Clark and leaves Bkk at 1330 (cross fingers no delay) which blows away Cebu Pacific flt times

Luggage Limits: 15 kilo for 1 pc check-in; 7 kilo for handcarry ($5 per additional kilo for both check-in & handcarry)

Right now they only have flights schl'd 22 Jul - 30 Aug I guess as a "see how it goes" trial run. Let's hope this continues if the flights go well. Hopefully we'll have some reports on this flight towards the end of the month.

  13. If all else fails...

A few years back a friend of mine sold his condo. He had difficulty getting all the money out at once and he was heading back to the States for a few months.

His solution was to use his Thai ATM card daily in the U.S., and draw out daily the maximum amount per day.

Make sure your Thai ATM is accepted in the U.K.

I understand it's not the ideal solution, but...?

  14. Sorry mate I missed the bit about the bus. I cant do that cos I need to have my car in order to drive back again.

Are you serious about the postal service though?

    HL :o

Yes, for the post office. I have seen motorcycles waiting to be picked up at the Udon P.O.

As far as the bus goes, perhaps you can pay someone to travel with the motorcycle/motorbike. And then pay for their return trip to Nong Ki.

  15. If you can't find anyone to help... Believe it or not, you can use the Thai Postal System.

Or you could put it on the morning or night train out of Nong Khai.

Another way is to put it on the bus and travel with it. But, on the bus, you have to empty it of gas and oil.

  17. There used to be a stall at the old food court in The Royal Garden Shopping Center in Pattaya. It was called Noodle Planet.

They had it there. When I would order it, I would ask for "ba mee Malaysia".

So, you might try asking at places for "ba mee Malaysia".
