  1. The Loei Place looks nice, but at normal prices is just about the most expensive hotel in Isaan and is a little away from the city centre across a park. I think the rack rate* is over the top

That is why I posted: book over the internet or telephone Amari's sales office in Bangkok , tell them you are having difficulty booking on the internet and want their "special internet promotion". It worked for me a year ago.

Rack rate*: if you walk into the hotel or telephone directly to the hotel you will get the rack rate.

Citizen 33...did you visit the weblink I posted?

It is a very nice nice hotel, we had a lovely room with a mountain/sunset view.

  2. The Loei Palace Hotel-an Amari Hotel has a special going now until Oct. 31..."from 800 THB".

    http://www.amari.com/loeipalace/

They usually run specials throughout the year.

But, don't expect to get them just walking in and asking. Internet booking only.

Also last year I attempted to book a room via the internet using my U.S. credit card, I kept having problems. So I telephoned Amari's sales office in Bangkok, explained my problems, and was given the "internet rate" over the telephone. Sometimes it pays to pick up the telephone and call.

  3. If there are 200 falangs in Sakon Nakhon that would like a restaurant-bar with AC, a quality billard table, Italian, creole French and American menu and a wine bar, Deserts with real cappchino. Let me know and I will start one.

My wife's village is in the province...so I occasionally go there.

Keep us updated on your restaurant progress.

  4. so can i live off 25000 baht in laos

    No. http://www.tourismlaos.gov.la/laos-in-brief.htm

The only place...perhaps that you might be able to live semi-comfortably on 25,000 THB per month is Cambodia.

$250 USD will get you a "no questions asked" one year visa with multiple re-entry's.

Perhaps, you should ask your question on the S.E.A. section of Thaivisa.

Do Not open the Laos Link it has a virus!

I haven't been to this thread since I posted the Laos website info and visited the Laos website.

So after reading your message TBWG, I ran a AVG Anti-Virus scan...results showed no threats.

What virus is on the Laos website?

  5. When I visit Bangkok, I always make a few visits to the Ploenchit area.

Bangkok Bakery at the J.W. Marriott and Beirut Restaurant in Ploenchit Center to name a few places.

Better an easily accessible location than some of these restaurants tucked away on a side soi off Sukumvit that one has to walk a km. or more to get to, IMO.

In the poll 47% stated food quality as important. IMO, if the food is good and is kept consistently good, you should have no problem in the Ploenchit area.

  7. The hard part for this is to find the right substitute for the Poblano chili

I just googled "poblano chili seeds" came up with over 88k hits, this is one of them:

    http://www.seedsofchange.com/garden_center...?item_no=S10779

There is a chili that is grown here, it is around 3-4+ inches in length, lime colored. Mild flavored. I bought mine at Tesco Lotus, but they are sold at many places. They were a good substitute for the authentic Poblano used in Chile Relleno.

It was a lot of work...but well worth it, even my wife liked my Chili Relleno.

  8. For the more "big ticket" items, IE: A/C, Refrigerator, T.V.'s, any electrical appliance, etc. I have found in my ten years here, that I receive better "after the sale" service from the locally owned retailers. Especially, if there is any problem with the goods purchased.

For the fruit & produce, we go to the local Thai-style open markets.

For the rest of the stuff, we go to the larger chains or locally owned larger stores.

  9. Maybe its the cost of cheese as the amount of cheese in an authentic version would be a large multiple of one of those fashionable crispy minimalist Italian style pizzas. They would probably have to charge 1000 baht, how many would really pay for that?

You are right...it probably would run around 1000 THB. However, even in the States, a pizza of this magnitude runs between $20-30.

I don't know about anyone else...but I'd be willing to share this pizza with three other people and spend 250 THB for a quarter of the pie. We're talking massive size pizzas here:

  10. I really, really wish I could offer some advice. I too miss American Style Pizza and especially Chicago Deep Dish Style.

For those on the forum who are unfamiliar with this particular style of pizza:

    Or, additional info here: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-to...ectomy-4249.htm

I had one at Bkk-Pattaya Hospital 7 years ago. None of the adverse reactions mentioned above, nor any type of negative side effects or negative after effects.

Mine was done in conjunction with a hernia repair surgery...so I was under anesthesia and had a day to rest in the hospital afterward.

  12. ^I have also chatted with said ladies with gf in tow. Course they do it for money nothing learned from this, and funny thing is lot of them had pretty good jobs prior making 20K a month. Ask them why they quit a good paying job by Thai standards? I don't want to work 6days a week. Easy money to go with farang and have fun. In summary its more about laziness and materialism if the truth be told. You notice most have the latest mobile costing more than 30K bht and other assorted sundries.

    Thought that is worth repeating.

  13. Absolutely, one step at a time my friend, Rome wasn't built in a day. I think a good plan would be to rescue as many girls as you can, one night at a time.

And then do what with them?

Does this mission have a plan?

Is this mission going to educate or re-train the girls in some kind of vocation?

Does this mission have some sort of a educational scholarship fund?

Are any of the girls getting visas to the U.S. for a better life?

I could go on and on with similar questions. But, my point is, it is one thing to "rescue" some of the girls...but one happens to the girls afterwards?

These NGO do-gooders always seem to forget this adage:

"Fail to plan and plan on failing."
