  1. Pricing in Thailand isn't always as simple as supply and demand setting the appropriate costs. Some areas and streets sell food for much more than other areas and this is due to the sellers setting higher prices in concert. 'If we all sell for 10 baht more than it won't effect demand.'

I'm all for free markets but this is the reality of it and many people live hand to mouth so the gov't is trying to control everyday costs for those people.

  2. Reef fish are caught mostly by either using explosives or by spraying poison onto the reefs.  No only are parrotfish essential to keeping the reefs healthy, the fishing practices harm and kill the reefs.

  3. In the end, the owner, after fully investigating the problem; agreed that his staff were at fault and offered a very sincere apology. Thank you Khun Sorot, you stepped up and did the right thing. Cheers!

  4. Guess that customer service is still not important as chefsxp as I experienced first hand tonight.

Here is my complaint to them:

Tonight I ordered and got an email confirmation. 80 minutes later I still didn't have my food and msgd you on live support and was told my order was cancelled because I live outside of the delivery area. This was a lie. I've ordered from the same restaurant to my home before. Then I was told to look for an email. It was in my spam folder and didn't make it to me and I had no idea that my order was cancelled. I was told that someone called me. That was another lie. I had my mobile with me and no call. No missed call and no record of any call from you. I checked my account and the number is correct. I asked to be called to discuss and when called my phone rang...amazing. So basically I ordered, you cancelled without letting me know, I waited for about an hour and a half and all I got were lies.

What kind of operation are you running? After all of this I was offered 15% off and delivery in another 75 minutes for a grand total of about 3 hours. There is a reason that companies that build their business around delivery offer guarantees on time or it's free. So that the customer has confidence in the operation. No one orders hoping to get free food because that means that you have to wait longer than expected. I had no idea my order was not coming. Your company failed miserably and all I got was lies and excuses and no offer to win my business back.

What am I supposed to do now? You leave me no option other than to let as many people as possible know what happened to me so that they can make an informed decision before using your service. I know mistakes are made but to then lie and make excuses with never an apology nor an attempt to somehow make me want to give you another chance at my business is inexcusable.

Thank you for your report on Chef's express.

It seems that on one occasion you, whilst living in a country with substantial poverty, you went hungry for at least 3 hours and lost no money in the process.

"What am I supposed to do now? You leave me no option other than to let as many people as possible know" that you are are grade A asshol_e, with nothing better to do than whine about a common inconvenience and then try to justify that whinge by stating that you "have no other option".

    Unbelievable...

Thanks for your insight! I obviously deserved the poor customer service considering I am in a third world country.

  6. I find this extraordinary. Thai people are so gentle and kind with their young kids (in fact over protective in many occasions) that to read of such a shocking event is unusual to say the least. Whatever the circumstances may the poor lad RIP and the perpetrator of this shocking crime get everything that he deserves.

Extraordinary? Really? I have always had the opinion that child abuse runs through many societies and the only thing that should surprise is how far the adult criminals go. As noted in the article, the first hospital she went to, with her battered child in her arms, sent her to another hospital. There is your gentleness to young kids. I guess money rules even for broken children.

horrible story, The Hospital should be ashamed of themselves as should the mother for letting it go on so long. As for the piece of garbage who beat the child - I hope he gets what he deserves

Maybe the first hospital referred them on because the boy needed more treatment than they could provide.

Since we don't know all the details it's difficult to know but Chula is a public hospital where you go when you have little or no money.

  7. As you go along the Sukhumvit heading into town there is a centre on the right side about 1 km before you get to On-Nut BTS. I took my WP and passport and had to do a lap around their circuit on 1 of their bikes ( did not have my own ) cost 100 baht I think.

    Normally you need:

    - Non tourist visa

    - Health certificate (get it at any clinic)

    - Proof of adress (immigration / embassy)

You need to do a do some laps around an circuit, and you need to do some theory on a computer need to pass both.

Does anyone know if there is really a licence office near On Nut? If so exactly where is it? Much preferred to Mo Chit for me especially since I'm not sure if Mo Chit if flooded.

As for the proof of address, can I get away with a rental lease and several utility bills in my name? Or is that too logical?

  8. Scoozi's pizza are just ok. However they are overpriced for what you get. It's a chain that offers terrible customer service. They don't care about their customers! Pizza delivery is often very late and cold. Many other better choices here. Basilico, Bella Napoli, L'Opera are ones that I've tried and find to be very nice.

  9. There is such nice Thai food who needs a pizza.

Because for those of us that live here we need something different from time to time. :)

I haven't tried Big Pizza but will eventually. I want to say avoid the overpriced average pizza from Scoozi....their customer service is the worst I've experienced in Thailand for an international product. Shame on me for giving them several chances...never again.

  10. This proposed law would have effected directly effected this newspaper and instead of running an actually news story getting both sides of the story, they choose to run with these one sided, emotional editorials. I am all for freedom of the press ... when you can trust the press even a little.

Umm...editorials are one sided. They are opinions of the editor and thus the paper as a whole. News articles are to be unbiased but editorials of all newspapers are not. :o

  11. Bangkokians are not the ones who decided what dams to fill and which flood gates to open. The anger is misplaced. It is your government who decided. What makes Bangkokians complacent? Most of the are hard working people from all over Thailand trying to make a living. Many are volunteering and donating to help their fellow Thais. Just because Bangkok is downstream and hit last does not make their residents evil or complacent. Bangkokians are/may be victims too.

Whether or not itrying to safeguard the economic sector after the severe hits to the agricultural and industrial sector is right or wrong is debatable, but this decision was not make by the residents, it was made by the government.

    Who elects a government ?

Anyway i am not angry at the people living in Bangkok. All i am saying its time to face up to the music. Either get hurt a little bit or get hurt big time. If it builds up and breaks through it will be much worse.

LOL The people that are under water elected this government...not Bangkokians. That's for sure! Ironic isn't it?

  12. So they are better then Lufthansa, Air France, KLM all American airlines etc.. they must be blind or on drugs at Sky trax.

Can't speak for the EU airlines but Thai or for that matter 90% of all Asian airlines are better than any US airline. That's for sure. The service on US airlines sucks...I'm American so it's not an anti-American thing. I don't want 50 yo hostesses that don't give a crap and refuse to be nice and helpful.

  13. Exactly, Who is it that hates littering here? No one seems to give it a second thought...it's like second nature to just drop whatever paper your holding onto the ground.

And if you want to hate Thai's just try driving in Bangkok for a few days...the most selfish drivers I've ever encountered.

Guess you can add 'being hypocritical' on the list.

  14. I am sick and tired of Tiger's 'cancel at will' attitude and frequent delays. Sure, they're a budget carrier and I realise you get what you pay for. But I have never had the same sort of trouble with AirAsia. I much prefer JetStar and wish they flew more international sectors.

That comment is just a bit too cute. Neither Jetstar nor Tiger have any domestic services in Thailand. Check your facts.

Where did that poster say anything about Thailand? They are all regional budget airlines. On a side note, I've never had a problem with Airasia but at the same time welcome more competition for my money.

  15. In a think tank headed by top educators in medicine, internal medicine, and genetic research have called this "Rat Science" not because it does not work or is bad. Only in the last 5 years have they tried it on pigs, next will be upper primates (apes not monkeys}

It will take time do not shun it on one tragic death. Lupis is an awful disease and will destroy your kidneys transplants are not an option. An endstage kidney patient has only one option, 'stem cell treatment' this lady would have been dead in 6 to 9 months anyway.

    Peace to her family

She lived with lupus for 20 years, so how do you come up with the conclusion that she would have died in 6 to 9 months? My aunt lived into her late 50s with this disease when dialysis was more difficult than it is today.

  16. The "Central World Plaza" that in now on fire, used to be called "World Trade Center", until 2003 during or before a visit by Geo W Bush it changed it's name so as not to offend President Bush. If I remember rightly Bush was staying in the hotel opposite "Central World Plaza" near the Erawan monument.

They changed the name when they redid the place a few years back.

  17. That guy is all over town. He doesn't have to crawl around to feed himself...he does it to look as pathetic as possible to garner more income. He is one of many beggars in Bangkok, many of which are amputees.

As for the pet section, there are some shop owners that really take care of the pets and others that don't. It's not right to group all the shops and owners together and lay blame. As with anything here in Thailand, proceed with caution.

I bought my dog at JJ and he came with papers, was properly weened and had his first round of shots along with his vaccination record. He's a wonderful and healthy dog and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another from this shop. As others have stated, the same farms supply dogs to JJ shops and other shops around Thailand alike.

Really the best way to buy any dog is to go direct to the breeder. Find a breeder that you feel comfortable with. One that seems to care for the dogs and keeps a clean and humane business. Put a deposit on a pup when it's a newborn and pick up when weened. This is best in any country not just Thailand. Ultimately I would have loved to have done this but I couldn't find one that was close by and spoke English.

  18. I wonder if any of these places will broadcast something other than True/UBC. I want to see the commercials...much better than blank space. Also, hope to get the commentary between plays and the halftime show.

  19. I would say no to 2nd marriage but if marrying a Thai woman and it's her first you should understand a bit about their customs. To refuse to follow the tradition of sinsot if it's considered important to her and her family is quite selfish as this action makes your bride to be look really bad. She looses major 'face' and will be very embarrassed. I would hate to put someone that I love enough to marry in a situation like that.

  20. I have ordered from their Thong Lo branch 3 times and each experience is worse than the last. This time though the pizza sucked. Not cooked through and the cheese isn't very good. I tried to cook it a bit more and the crust didn't improve. I just returned from NYC and Philly and this version is not anywhere near as good. Avoid!
