  1. The ref made the correct decision. The laws of the game state very clearly that even if the player gets the ball if the challenge is deemed dangerous then that player has to go. Graham Taylor said on 5 Live that you do not play football on your backside, and I agree with him. Everton had no interest in trying to win the game anyway, the right team won.

  2. That ref turned in one of the worst performances possible.

How he did'nt give Baros a peno ? And then he gave the Czechs one for a dive. He was right beside it.

And that was a cast iron peno for the Scots in the 93rd minute, no doubt.

The small nation gets screwed again, well done Platini.

  3. High flying Hoops to learn Europa fate

Friday, 26 August 2011 07:59 Shamrock Rovers' boss Michael O'Neill hailed his players after their historic night in Europe as the Airtricity League champions became the first Irish club to reach the groups stages of a European competition after a dramatic win over FK Partizan in Belgrade.

Rovers came from behind in both legs, drawing 1-1 in the first game in Tallaght Stadium thanks to a winder goal by Gary McCabe.

They again fell behind in the raucous atmosphere of the Partizan Stadion last night, but stormed back into the game. Right-back Pat Sullivan levelled the game on the night with a sublime 30-yard volley. Substitute Stephen O'Donnell then scored a gutsy penalty in extra-time to see Rovers through

All eyes will now be on Monaco this lunchtime for the UEFA draw to see which three teams Rovers will now play in the Europa League group stage.

Rovers are guaranteed €1 million for reaching this stage, plus their three home gates.

On top of that, UEFA's prize money is €140,000 for a win and €70,000 for a draw.

Club chairman Jonathan Roche is confident of having all three home games at Tallaght Stadium, though moving a match to the Aviva Stadium is an option depending on who the opposition might be.

The team arrive home from Belgrade via Frankfurt shortly after 10 pm this evening when a large welcoming committee is expected at Dublin airport.

"It's hard to put into words," said a delighted O'Neill immediately afterward the game.

"The performance was fantastic, it's unbelievable. The courage they showed to play. We tried to contain them in the first half and we did that. We looked a wee bit nervy and created some of our own problems, but once we settled into the game, I thought we did okay.

"We knew we had to score after they did, so it didn't change it so much. Then the goal from Sully was out of this world. The two fullbacks were unbelievable."

With most of his squad out of contract at the end of the domestic season at the start of November, O'Neill has a nice headache to surmount.

"We're dreaming. To get to this stage, and now how we deal with it will be the interesting thing," he said. "We only have less than a week to sign players (for UEFA eligibility) and we will need them as it's going to be a long, long season.

"It has been a fantastic adventure, the 10 games over the last two years have been fantastic and they (the players) deserve to be on this stage as they never looked out of place."

Roche added: "It's enormous. It's a new universe for us. For us, and for Irish football.

"Hopefully, now everyone will take Irish football - not just us - seriously. It's a serious league with serious players.

"Celtic and Rangers went out (last night), yet Shamrock Rovers are still in representing Irish football.

"It's a massive night for the club, for Irish football and hopefully we can kick on from this. It makes everything worthwhile. Not just for us, but for all the other clubs as well

  4. Ye stank the place out again lads - went for the cheap option in Lennon but when you pay peanuts ye get monkeys.

On a cheerier note Shamrock Rovers won 1-2 tonight - first Irish team to make the group stages ......

Well done to the other hoops !!!!!

  5. In truth though Asia is very top heavy with strong teams, and if you are in the bottom pot you are shagged. Best the boys can hope for is to get some results in bangkok and see where we go from there. Our German coach hasnt had the team for very long so he has done well to get them this far.

  6. Salty I think we can win over there with a fully fit squad, the likely outcome is a draw however. Its been a very strange group with everybody dropping points. Slovakia have already played Andorra twice so their position at the top is a bit false. We should take them in Dublin and eliminate them. Great to see Given playing first team football again - WHY DID'NT WENGER SIGN HIM?????????

Did you have to get your lady friend counselling after exposing her to an old firm game ????!!!!!

Ps the goals from the Palestine match are up on youtube - watch Thonglao's free kick at the end - PEACH.

  7. Palestine 2 Thailand 2 ( Agg 2-3 )

I had to go and lie down after that. Mrs out celebrating.

I have to say fair play to the lads, an artifical pitch, hostile environment, concession of an early goal, and they kept plugging away. I thought when palestine scored at the end the ref was going to keep playing until they scored, but thonglao popped up with a second.

The group stages will be very tough, but well done all the same to the elephants.

STAND UP, FOR THE BOYS IN BLUE, STAND UP FOR THE BOYS IN BLUE, STAND UP FOR THE BOYS IN BLUE, STAND UP, FOR THE BOYS IN BLUE.

  8. World cup qualifier 2nd leg.

Thailand won the first leg 1-0 in Bangkok, the match in Palestine will be played on an artificial surface. Winners will go into the group stages.

Best bet for Thailand would be to go for a goal rather than sit back, then Palestine would need 3...........

They have not being playing well, but sure I will keep an eye out for them.

THEY ARE SMALL, THEY ARE ROUND, THEY SCORE IN MODERATION AT EVERY GROUND, THAILAND,THAILAND.

  9. Ed Visa holders must attend classes to get a visa ? Surely they had to do that all the time ?

Although an English college was raided in Dublin before by immigration it was found that for a fee the students attendence records sheet could be made better ( needed for visa renewal ).......

Anyway if the new Prime Minister wants braek her cherry with her first crackdown well then happy days !
