  1. Do any of you guys have a rough idea of how much metal sheet roofting costs in Thailand?
I realize the exact price would depend on the quality of the roofing sheets, labor cost, location etc. but I'm just looking to get a ballpark idea right now.
If anyone has a rough idea of what the price is per square meter (with steel supports and installation), let me know.

I've attached a photo below showing what I'm looking for..

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Hey guys,

Just had a quick question regarding my current visa situation..

The entries on my Non Immigrant B visa will be maxed out in March. I don't really want to go back to my country in March though because it's still a bit too cold.

Am I able to leave Thailand and fly back in to get a 30 day entry stamp on arrival even after spending 15 months here with a Non-Immigrant B?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

  3. My Thai girlfriend and I are partnered with 2 other foreigners in a limited company.

The two of us wish to sell our shares (she has common shares and I have preferred shares).

She is listed as a director, as is one of the other foreigners.

Problem is, our partners are making things difficult and they are not providing us with the financial information we need.

Our accountant wants to charge us for the monthly reports, which we're willing to pay if we have too, but it seems like our partners will continue resisting and making the sale difficult for us.

    Here are my questions..

    1) After we obtain the financial reports and get a buyer lined up, is there any way our partners can prevent us from making the sale? I understand that common shareholders (in this case, my Thai girlfriend) have to offer to sell the shares back to the company first but that preferred shareholders (myself) have the option of selling to the highest bidder .. is that correct?

    2) I do the promotion/advertising for this business. The website and the majority of the other promotional material I've developed is in my control (none of it is owned by the company). In fact, the website was registered long before the company even existed. If our partners continue to make things difficult for us and I decide to remove the promotional material (essentially cutting off their income supply), would there be any legal repercussions for doing so and what would happen if the company went bankrupt?

We don't have any outstanding debts as we've never signed for any loans. I realize we would lose any money we invested into the business, as well as the deposit on the property we're leasing .. but is there anything else we should be aware of? Also, if this company were to go bankrupt, would that somehow prevent our ability to start another company in the future (me and my girlfriend) and go into business just the two of us?

    Thanks in advance.

  4. The sales staff is brutal there though. Very rude and pushy and I went in tonight to purchase a 3 month membership for 4000 baht (as it was being advertised on their website) and they tried to sell it to me for nearly 7000.

I'm living right across the street so it's unfortunate as it's def. the most convenient facility for me.

  5. I went into California wow today with the intention of signing up for 3 months.

They had advertised a 4000 baht/3 month deal on their website but they wouldn't not honor it.

They tried to get me to pay nearly 7000 baht for the 3 months, which doesn't even make sense.

There's clearly Thai pricing and "Falang" pricing here.

It sucks because it's the closest gym to where I'm living.

  6. There is a Team Quest training facility that's opening up near the Central Airport Plaza.

From my understanding, they will have a traditional Muay Thai program as well as a grappling/MMA program (ran separately).

If you're unfamiliar with "Team Quest", check here for the history of the gym..

    http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Team_Quest

Here is the official website (not compete yet). The gym is opening up on Nov. 15th..

    Team Quest Thailand

I'll be training there so just hit me up if you have any questions.

  7. Hello,

Myself and my partner have had dealings with 2 of your Sunbelt lawyers (one in Bangkok and one up here in Chiang Mai) and we've got some conflicting information.

The first lawyer recommended that we register our business under the Amity treaty (I am Canadian and he is American).

We were told that it didn't matter what other nationality the non-American was.

When we consulted with the lawyer up here in Chiang Mai, he told us that the Amity treaty wasn't an option for us and that the non-American shareholders had to be Thai's. He pointed us in a different direction and suggested that we issue common shares vs preferred shares between us and a Thai partner (basically on paper).

He told us that we can issue a certain type of shares (forget whether it was common or preferred) to the Thai "director" and that although they would own 51% of the shares, they would only be entitled to just 1% of the profits and hold 10x less voting rights. So, essentially, we would have complete control over the company and garnish 99% of the profits.

We were told that the business application would be submitted with our Thai director and our Foreign director at first, and once it was processed, the company would be restructured in a way to add 2 other shareholders.

There will be 4 of us involved (2 Canadians, 1 American and 1 "on paper" Thai).

I just read here that for this type of company, there has to be a minimum of 7 shareholders. Can you shed some light on this? Perhaps an outdated rule?

We were also told that once the company was registered, one of us could apply for a work permit. To clarify, does the person applying for the work permit need to currently be in the country on a non immigrant visa? I currently have a non B visa that is set to expire on the 11th of September although I would rather my partner receive that (he's currently on a tourist visa) because he will be doing most of the actual work.

Once we receive a work visa, we were told the next step is to open a business account. Since we are issuing 1 foreign work visa, we were told that we need 2 million baht of invested capital (showed after a year of operation) and to get started, we would need to deposit 300,000 baht (I read on here that the minimum amount to get started is 500,000 baht).

We're ready to proceed with the paperwork and get this registration process started but I've been getting/reading some conflicting information so I'd like to have a 3rd option.

Also (and this is important), we've found the facility that we would like to lease. We've been told that before we can secure the property, we would first have to go through the registration process and have a bank account open (so that the deposit would count towards our companies invested capital).

I'm worried that the property will be rented out during the time it takes to register the company and open the bank account. Is there any way to move ahead with the lease prior to establishing the company/opening the bank account to ensure that we secure the property?

Anyway, thanks for reading but I'd really like some clarification on things.. This is stressing me out.

  8. I'm a 28 year old from Canada. I'm looking to purchase a Muay Thai gym. I don't want to buy the land, I just want to pay the "key money" as they call it and take over the lease.

If I was to pay the "key money" for the business, what would happen if the land owner ended up selling the land later on? It's for sale.

Is it in any way possible to set things up so the majority of the shares could be owned by foreigners?

I have a Thai fight promoter who will be in for 20%, but I would like to spread the remaining 80% of the shares amongst myself my foreign investors (one is from Canada and another is from USA).

Is this possible? We don't have the 2 million baht to show either..

If it HAS to be 50.1% Thai owned, is there any loopholes around that? I have a long term girlfriend here, but I just don't like the idea of just giving away shares of a business to people who aren't going to be involved in financing or even running it. Also, there are trust issues involved too. You can't predict the future and anything can happen to severe relationships.

Anyway, any guidance would be greatly appreciated..

  9. Hey,

I'm in Phuket at the moment and I'm here with a multiple entry non-immigrant visa.

The visa is valid until November 2010 and my first 90 days (stamped upon entering Thailand) are about to be up in a few days.

Now, just want to make sure, do I just have to leave Thailand and re-enter and I get another 90 days? Is that all their is to it?

Any paperwork necessairy? And can I just hop over to Burma for this?

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill

  10. Hey guys,

I'm going to Penang to get another tourist visa in a couple days. I got my last visa from Penang (tourist visa) but it's to my understanding that you can get back to back tourist visas - even from the same consulate.

Anyway, I believe I have everything I need - passport, photos, proof of return ticket to my home country within the 3 months and proof of funds (if required) ..

Is there anything I'm missing and are my chances of getting the visa pretty good?..

I'd just like some assurance and peace of mind so I'm not stressed out during the extremely long, dragged out bus ride .. haha

    Thanks,

    Bill

  11. Thanks for the advice guys, this forum is VERY helpful.

My return ticket is for May 9th. My current tourist visa expires on Monday and I'll be paying 1900 baht for the 30 day extension. That should take me to Feb. 19th, at which point I'm planning on just getting another 60 day tourist visa and extending it for another month after that..

Have you ever heard of someone being denied the 30 day extension?

Also, I read that some consulates are more strict than others. In your experiences, where would you recommend I go for my next tourist visa? I've already been to Penang..

    Thanks again,

    Bill

  12. Hello,

I know there's been a few changes regarding visa regulations lately. I heard about the entry stamps being reduced from 30 days to 15 days and that there's been a few changes regarding the business visas.

I've been here for almost 6 months now.

I entered on a non-imm. type "O" visa (3 months) then I did a border run (30 days) than I got a tourist visa from Penang (60 days) which I will be extending for 30 more days.

After that, do I then just do another visa run and get a new tourist visa?

I hope they haven't placed any new restrictions on back to back tourist visas..

Is their any limit to how often I can do this?

Also, since I went to Penang for the first tourist visa, should I go to a new consulate for the next one or does it even matter?

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill

  13. Thanks for the advice guys.

    I love this forum!

A couple of other things, how do you guys recommend I do this? Should I go through a visa run company or should I just go on my own?

With the visa run companies, I'm just a little concerned that the ED visa I will originally attempt to get will take longer to process. I don't really want the whole bus waiting up for me.

If I go alone, do you guys have any good recommendations as to a nice, affordable place to stay near the embassy in Penang and also, are there any "luxury" busses that go there from Phuket?

And lastly, I've heard that the provinces in Southern Thailand are pretty violent. Is it even safe to be going through those areas?

I mean, just driving through, I'm sure it's not a big deal .. but maybe you guys have heard something that I haven't ..

    Thanks.

    Bill

  14. Hey.

I've been Thailand for about 4 months now.

    I entered Thailand with a non-immigrant type O visa (3 months)

Last month I crossed over into Burma and got a 30 day stamp

I have to go to the Thai embassy in Penang either tomorrow or on Wednesday

I'm here studying Muay Thai so it's possible that I would be able to get an education visa

My return flight isn't until May 2009 ..

That being said .. I have a few questions ..

Would the following be an option? ..

Just get a tourist visa in Penang

Extend it for an extra 30 days from within Thailand (giving me 3 more months total)

Do 2 more visa runs after that (I've already done 1) for entry stamps ..

Then do 1 more final trip to Penang for yet another tourist visa ..

The restrictions on the stamps is that you can get 3 of them within a 6 month period, is that correct?

Ideally, I'd like to just get an education visa but I just have a feeling that they'll give me a hard time about it at the embassy..

Does anyone know how much both an education visa and a tourist visa cost?

    Thank you in advance,

    Bill

  15. If I do a visa run, would it just be easier to apply for a 60 day tourist visa in Penang, than extend it for another 30 days here in Thailand. Then once that's up, am I able to do 3 more 30 day extensions by leaving and re-entering the country (stamps)?

If I wanted to stay longer than that, would I then be able to get a new tourist visa or a new non-immigrant one at the Thai embassy in Penang?

  16. Hey guys

When I went to Phuket Immigration..

I went with my passport, the appropriate photos, an invitation letter from the camp (school), the camps school registration, the camps registration from the "sport authority of Thailand", an personalized letter from the schools "director", and a signed photocopy of her ID etc..

Not that he even bothered to even look at any of it. He simply said "Muay Thai.. No ... cannot" ..

I know many people who DO have ED visas for Muay Thai so you CAN ..

I just had bad luck and got an ignorant officer..

One helpful member called the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained my situation and apparently I should be able to go there, show the documentation I showed in Ottawa and they should be able to switch it for me. I'm going to call myself in about an hour to confirm.

If not, what would the next best option be?

Just a visa run or a visit to the consulate in Penang to get a new ED visa? Penang or Cambodia - which is better?

  17. This is very frusterating.

I just got back from the immigration office in Phuket town and the officer said that I can extend it for a max. of 7 days??

He also said that "Muay Thai" does NOT classify as "education". I have many friends who are living and training in Thailand RIGHT NOW on an education visa for Muay Thai. The officer at the Thai embassy in my city ALSO confirmed that Muay Thai does indeed classify as "education" providing that they're registered as a school (in this case, they ARE).

I went to the Patong Beach office and he said that he can't extend it there.

What should I do now? Do I have to book a flight BACK to Bangkok and go to the ministry of foreign affiars (as one helpful poster stated)?

If that's the case (I don't mind doing that), but am I able to get a 30 day extension for 1900 baht right here in Phuket from a single entry non-imm type "o" visa? I plan in going back to Bangkok in 30 days anyway so that wouldn't be an inconvience in the least.

And as a last resort, what am I able to do? Can I leave the country and just do visa runs like everyone else? If so, with my non-imm. type "o" visa, am I able to extend/get a new one every 90 days even though it's a single entry?

    Help! lol ..

    Thanks ..

  18. Hey

I'm here in Thailand training Muay Thai. Before I came here, I went to the Thai embassy in Ottawa, Canada and presented them with an invitation letter from a Muay Thai camp as well as the school registration. I was given a non-immigrant type "O" visa and told that I didn't have to leave the country, but rather, I could just get it extended here in Thailand. The visa is set to expire on the 24th but why was I given a type "O" visa rather than the "ED" visa? Was this a mistake on their part?

What should I do? It's a single entry visa as well. I read that those can be extended for 12 months. If that's the case, what sort of documents would I need to show tomorrow when I head to immigration?

    Thanks in advance..

    Bill

  19. Hello everyone,

I've recenty returned back to Canada after spending 3 months in Phuket. Needless to say, I'm pretty depressed. I would like to go back to Thailand in a couple months to live. I am in the final stages of setting up a couple online businesses so I will be able to work from anywhere I want with a laptop. I won't be needing a visa to work in Thailand.

I am under the impression that while there are restrictions on the 30day stamp (as it can be extended up to 90 days), this doesn't effect the tourist visa (60 plus extendable 30 days).

Would I able able to enter Thailand on the tourist visa and simply leave and re-enter the country every 90 days with a fresh tourist visa? Is there a limit to how many times I can do this?

Another option I suppose would be to incorporate my company out of Thailand. However, I'd prefer to keep my travel options open and incorporate in a tax haven to spare myself the hassle if I decide to live somewhere else later. Of course I am willing to pay income tax if I'm residing in Thailand for over 180 days..

Lastly, are those 50yrs. and older the only ones eligable for the "retirement" visa? Is there a way I can obtain a "retirement" visa providing I show proof of monthly income? .. I am 25yrs old.

    Thanks in advance..
