  1. If I and my friends had given a beating to a couple of petty criminals, which had gone too far, I would certainly try to exagerrate their offences, imagined or otherwise, to prevent any kind of negative repercussion for me and my friends.

The police would be happy to go along as I and my friends are not only citizens of this country but also local residents, while the dastardly perpetrators are untrustworthy, despicable foreigners of the worst and lowliest kind, Burmese!

The press will just print verbatim anything given to them as a statement by the police.

This case is now officially closed.

    Johnny Walker's, officer?

Ah yes, the classic TV conspiracy theorist ! And a crack at the BIBs to boot !

I wonder if that is really the statement of the 12-year-old or is it the work of somebody else? What rapist would have his mate wait outside?

I won't wait for the full investigation though.

The one that raped and threw the young girl off the train to her death had a look out.

  2. In Papua new Guinea some guards have shotguns handcuffed to them to motivate them to use them. The guns are more of a target then the cash registers as they can commit more crimes with them. So the guards will shoot rather than have their hand chopped off as most people there carry large bush knives. Point is they've created more targets and possibly put more guns in the wrong hands especially if these people aren't commited to use them

  3. Interesting really. After the coup the Junta released the red shirt activists from their exclusive red only jail back into the public prison system which must have seemed biased against them. Now they have a prominent yellow activist in the general prison population which further illustrates their unbiased attitude and determination to remove the colour divide. It's a shame they can't adjust the colour divide amongst some TVF members
  4. Is that the pilot in the pic ready to eject and flee the scene in the event of an accident?

    He is steering the planelaugh.png

The driver of the tug in front is hitched to the nosewheel and HE is steering it. There is no need for anybody in the cockpit at all as the aircraft had been "mothballed" and it will have no hydraulic power nor air, oxygen, nitrogen or fuel on board anyway.

The aircraft is a Hawker Siddley Harrier built in the UK and not a McDonnell Douglas AV8 even though the AV8 is licence built. The Harriers were retired in 2006 some 8 years ago.

'mothballed' or not that's not to say the accumulator couldn't be charged by a hydraulic rig (as is common) to provide a couple of brake applications for emergency

I dont like flying in small planes I dont feel safe would rather pay the extra and go in a larger plane like the ones AA use.

I would fly in a turbprop sooner than a jet. When you advance the throttles in the turboprop, you get thrust. When you advance them in the jet, it takes a few moments to spool up to create that thrust. The Q400 is flying with 5000 HP on each wing, which is plenty to climb even with one engine out.

I don't think that's a good argument. Turboprop propellors are used on smaller, lighter aircraft that fly shorter distances. Typically turboprop aircraft have strict weight limits in terms of carry on and check-in baggage, both of which must be accurately weighed, whereas on larger jet aircraft, carry on baggage is simply estimated as are passenger weights. Turboprop aircraft are also more vulnerable to the effects of turbulence. They have no protective housing to protect their blades/vanes from bird strikes. And the list goes on.

I also much prefer jet aircraft and luckily one can avoid turboprops altogether if flying to anywhere that isn't considered nakorn nowhere. And this is generally true in other parts of the world too.

Anyway, I can't imagine ever needing to fly to Phitsanulok when I can drive there in not much more than 4.5 hours. Ditto for Mae Sot, which takes around 6.5. Because once you factor in the time it takes to get to the airport, in this case Don Muang (well over an hour from where I live), the fact you need to check-in around an hour before departure, waiting for the plane to take-off and then waiting for luggage at the other end, 3.5 hours will have elapsed. Then you still need local transport at your destination. In Phitsanulok you can rent a car, but combining the cost of renting a car and the plane ticket and it will be expensive. At Mae Sot airport you're out of luck because I don't think there are any car rental companies there at all. You might find a rental car somewhere in town, but you'll have to know where to look. Even if you don't own a car, I'd say renting in Bangkok and driving all the way up is the way to go, especially if you're traveling in a group of 2 or more persons.

For Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket, Hat Yai and Krabi, it starts to make more sense to fly as distances are greater and there are some good deals on flights to those destinations, plus plenty of car rental at your destination.

Protective housing?? I have never seen something like that on a jet. If there goes a bird into a jet engine it is finished! If there goes a bird into a turboprop not much will happen. I doupt the bird can pass the fast rotating propeller and actuall go into the jet!? Never heard about that happen. No, to be true I rather sit in a turboprop than in a pure jet without a propeller if it comes to bird collisons.
The propeller is actually protecting the jet intake.

About going by car instread... well I believe the roads in Thailand are the most dangerous places to be at! I prefer to travel in the air...

  6. I tell you what's a joke is the way Ford has blocked the download of this TSB (it's only a technical service bulletin not a trade secret) so customers can't get the info and know where they actually stand. I found it from a guy in the US and as I started to download it my PC froze up and I only got 2 pages then it shut down the webspace I was using and unable to now open it as it is now blocked like every other mention of it on the net.

  7. Hi can anyone tell me where I can get a copy of this TSB 13-9-4? I read it at the dealership when they tried to justify the quoted expense of 50,000 thb and upon hearing I was an engineer and questioning the parts list and which part of the TSB would be accomplished as they hadn;t done a diagnostic yet to determine this, they refused to give me a copy and reduced the quote to 23,000 thb. (BTW it is 1 month out of warranty so I have to pay)

  8. Been trying to find some info about the KK Superbike race on the 29th sept. Google isn't coming up with much but the same calendar and an old Pattaya Mail article says the races have been moved to Bira for safety concerns, could anyone shed any light on this subject.

Also if the dates aren't correct maybe they should be updated or the topic unpinned as you could ruin a day out for some people. Any help would be appreciated.

  9. Lets be honest about Thailand.

You either come here for work, tourism or more commonly nowdays; very cheap street sex and buying a poor provincial wife. They cant get a woman back home so they come here with their prescription meds ,welfare cheques and naivety and away they go.

Any farang who thinks that girls would lose a minutes sleep over a dead ex farang sponsor obviously doesnt live here.

There are dozens of flights landing at BKK airport daily with thousands of newbie farang sex tourists just gagging to be scammed by girls.

Another day is another farang prospect to these Thai girls.

A dead farang is the same as a poor one......useless. Send it home.

Cinical but often true. Last december i was coming back to thailand and walked outside of the top floor of Bangkok airport to the middle island to wait for my taxi and have a cigarette. Then a middle aged possibly English guy (I'm no expert on accents) with a chang T shirt stormed past me arguing heavilly with a Thai girl me thinking it's nice to be home lol. They walked acrross the road past the taxis and to the far rail, where they contiued to agrue while everyone watched. The man suddenly thew his leg over the railing the Thai girl (I assume girlfriend) then grabbed it in a hug and dropped to the ground. He kicked and was obviously not faking. It took 4 Thai taxi drivers got hold of him and wrestle him to the ground holding him to the ground till the police arrived.

Yes maybe he got done by this girl, but jumping of the rail at the airport, Seriously!

Unfortunately he's not the first farang to try this, there was a case about 3 years ago of a farang succeeding in this at Surv. Airport. He was Australian if I recall rightly...

I guess the Australian was a higher achiever than the guy I saw

  10. When leaving Australia they are very strict on you having onward travel, doesn't have to be an airline ticket though. You can have a cheap refundable bus ticket.

    Hi FD

Yes -- I have been checked on 3 different occasions when leaving Australia -- Qantas/ BA.

You shall find that the only ticket out of Thailand that is acceptable is air travel. Land travel is not an option.

Leaving Australia I just show a non immigrant O visa and no onward ticket is required
