  1. Is Chang Rai the best place to start out on some nice treks.

Are there any particular treks that are essential to try.

How little a time and how long a time can you be on the path.

Is it tea house to tea house ?

If you bring plenty of soxs and good walking shoes and cash are you prepared or do you need equipment.

Finally, as it is cooler in the North, what is the season to go ?

  2. Been to Pattaya and found myself going mental.

Went to Samet and in 5 min of sitting and drinking juice was in another world.

    Amazing experience.

    What is your escape ?

If in Bangkok do you need to drive 1/2 way to Chang Mai to find a weeks retreat or perhaps just Nakhorn Ratchasima ?

Know of any guest houses where food is good, is quiet and green and HAS internet too.

P.S Any body testify to working upcountry upcountry and loving it and did not miss McDonalds - or was the centre you were in polluted.

  3. Thanks for the warning.

Not sure what that thread was saying. Seems to be an issue with work visa mainly - paperwork covering an activity? - and possibly cross over with protected industry?

Actually I did read that there were laws coming to shift the coffers back into the state telco. This would be applicable to Thai internet booths too.

I was asking more for an different country actually.

And was more curious at a level that was not competing with other internet booths or locals, but supplying to them.

Have heard mention of "USAnetPhone.com" as a product and I got email from someone pushing "CallOnThe.Net", (mrpager ?).

    Always pays to be careful

  4. These business that provide a service, a local voice over internet hub thing ......... for voice ; the service that the ISP use for cheap calls...........Despite being a saturated market ...........

    What is involved?

    How difficult is it?

  5. Satelitte ISP's.

If you live in Pattaya, I guess you can choose between 56k and DSL.

If you are on Phiphi koh or Samui koh, what are the choices.

Are people that choose a satellite ISP paying big bucks, do you need this service if on an island or can you generally piggyback you bandwidth inside the islands main receiver ?

I want to go to an island and stay online at my convenience and with out paying a fortune.

PhiPhi and Samui seem to have Internet booths so infrastructure ought to be there, so I'm wondering about the cost.

If I were to go to a smaller island , could I do satelitte connection with my own dish and is this a different setup and cost altogether ?
