  1. Had a couple of comps die recently, they had a good life !!!!

Buying a new one for wifie is not to hard, but I would like to pick up some used low power ones for the kids to destroy.

Even desktops are ok, plenty of screens left over. The kids don't do much except play games, I don't want a gaming machine, just those crappy games online. They tent to be really good at changing settings though and downloading bugs !!!

I remember seeing a bunch of used comps in Phantip, I am not near there, does anyone remember very roughly what you get in the box for how much these days?

  2. I can spell monopoly Thai style 'mon?opoly" or is it 'mono?poly' last week it would have been 'mon-opoly' or mono-poly. Got ta lu-v this news sou?ses Engrish :)

Can you spell "monopoly," as in government control of communications. No, no, lets refer to CAT and TOT as the country's national champions for telecommunications as that sounds warm and fuzzy. Just a shame that Thailand's telecommunications governance/laws/regulations are so flawed, where challenges in the court system easily win due to the flaws.

  3. BOT own admission they reg intervene. This is also reported on Bloomberg platform and Thompson Reuters out of the Singapore office by traders who have access to raw data, like EBS and Routers 3000. You will need to spend several thousand USD a month to have access to this WhyBother, just he news I mean, not the EBS or R3000 of course. The BOT say they are trying stabilize the Baht, each time they do, it seems to never devalue, funny that don't you think. :whistling:

  4. Depends a fair bit on what the actual "Oil" is.

If it is diesel or petrol then it eveporates quickly and shouldnt cause any problems.

The rough seas will help with this and of course the warm temp's here.

Heavy fuel oil and crude are another thing.

But crude oil is a natural occuring substance and the envirnment can handle it in small quantities.

Big lots like the recent BP thing are another matter.

Yes I have been involved with an oil spill clean up.

Another bit of mis-information in pathetic Thai media. If you are going to use English words writing in English why the hel_l can't these idiots use English definitions. Robby NZ above is correct.

The destination is meant to be a hotel, I am presuming for a Gen set, What the heck would they want heavy Oil for, mean Crude or WTI ? More likely petrol which is light and will evaporate and most likely diesel that above mentioned. Not an ideal situation at all and prob more damage will be done by Fox and CNN to Thailand if they pick it up than some light fuel evaporating in the sea, no spill is good, there should be some specialist pumping gear in the region that could get most of it anyway in the tanks if they are up to international standards, but I spose, TIT.

  5. Suggest you do a search on this site. Clearly you need more information.

Firstly, are you converting a foreign license? If so, no driving test.

2nd, if not, the rates 6 months ago were 50b for motorbike and 100b for a car to rent to do the test in BKK. Not sure Pattaya. These are owned by the test center.

I didn't have a western bike one to convert so did it from scratch, it is scary how easy it was !

  6. "How many animals died today just to supply you with food?"

Since you asked, you must be interested. No offense intended.

    So far today,

    6 prawns

3 chickens according to you, 1 was living, 2 unfertilized eggs.

    a pig

    a cow

not sure what will die for dinner, maybe a duck, I love bet dang..

Also many plants died as well, I presume plants have feelings to and you talk to them as well .......

For the record, I appose eating pet puppies.

    EDIT: 6 prawns under digestion.

I presume this lady is a maul, this really is not much of a deterant.

  7. Looks like Wiki camp has some headaches to deal with. This is an Australian based website I believe.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange wanted in Sweden for rape

She was unable to say what the other accusation was or whether the arrest warrant was international.

"There are powerful organisations who want to do harm to WikiLeaks."

Ms Hrafnsson said Mr Assange was still in Sweden and would "go to the police very quickly".Mr Assange was in Sweden to announce at a press conference that the whistleblower website was set to publish a final batch of 15,000 secret documents on the war in Afghanistan in "a couple of weeks."

WikiLeaks in late July posted 76,000 classified military documents including those relating to operations in Afghanistan.

  8. One question about the common square boards used for suspended ceilings. Is there any risk of finding asbestos in there?

Yes, the 120 cm square cement boards are an asbestos cement product....and so is the corrugated cement board roofing....and the thin wall cement pipes....but don't worry too much because the types of fibres used in these products are the not really very dangerous kind and also the way it is being used in these products stabilizes the fibres so they generally don't sluff off of these products and so don't really cause much of a problem. There are probably alot of other environmental things that should concern us more than the presence of asbestos in these products. I'm sure that many will disagree with me in my estimation of the dangers of these products....I have asked before and I will ask again, does anyone know of the frequency of asbestosis in Thailand...I would think it would be an epidemic since these products are so widespread in Thailand...but I've never heard of asbestosis as being an issue in Thailand at all.

    Chownah

So when you say they are not the dangerous one, I understand not dangerous when not disturbed. But they do become dangerous when holes drilled in them for the bolts? Corners cut off with a angle grinder?

  9. Sunday 25th July I was told is some festival down in Pattaya , maybe relate to the Buddhist holiday, but not really sure. I was told starting at 2pm, fireworks etc.

I was thinking of going for a drive to Pattaya. Can anyone confirm this festival please.

  10. A team of over 50 officers raided seven separate locations in Pattaya, arresting 30 offenders of both Thai and foreign nationalities. Items confiscated in the raids included, 20g of Ya-Ice (crystal methamphetamine), 20g of Cocaine, 100 pills of Ya-Ba, an unknown quantity of marijuana, drug-using paraphernalia, a broken revolver and various illegal sex toys.

That is a lot of drugs.

  11. I will waste more bandwidth that this retard initially wasted.

I wonder if they will identify the 150b international transaction ATM fee as being unfair?!...somehow I think not!

or the charge they make you pay for changing small change into notes, and the fee i was once charged for paying in 3000 baht in small change into my account, apparently to pay for the time and energy taken to count the money that was already counted and bagged ready for the teller to put it on their money scales.

International fee is beyond Bank of Thailand jurisdiction.

Anyway, you people can afford it.

  12. I just looked up Mood's for a definition, looks like Thailand is on the slippery slide unfortunately. "Moody's judges obligations rated BBB+ as speculative and "subject to high credit risk", and have "generally poor credit quality."

I see a bunch of people saying Thailand tourism only accounts for 6% or 8% of the economy, who am I to disagree, but how much of your tourist dollar is cash dollar, Yes you may get a scribble 'check bin' so they can log how many beers you have had, do you really think it gets declared? That Pad Thai you had for lunch? Think your tuk tuk driver is declaring how much he ripped you off? I think the average tourist would dispose more money each day in cash than many rice farmers put together gross wage. Also, foreign investment is running, I know of 3 companies that have directly effected family members or close friends, that have shut down Thailand operations and opened up in near by countries, leaving hundreds of non tourism related jobs behind and leaving a lot of corrupt tea money collectors looking for their next victim. 'mai pen rai'

I feel that pulling tourism in Thailand, would make more than a 8% impact on the country, it's an experiment I think they are trying by the looks of it unfortunately. :)
