Make sure foot pain is not Diabetes

I`ve got type 2 diabetes and had pins and needles in my feet. The doctor gave me Amitriptyline 10mg to try......and bingo, it worked.

Amitriptyline is an antidepressant drug licensed to treat moderate to severe depression. In multiple sclerosis, amitriptyline is often used in lower doses for the treatment of neuropathic or nerve pain, such as burning sensations, pins and needles or stabbing pains.

  2. We`ve moved to a town now but prior to that we were living out in the sticks in a beautiful area not far from Pak Chong. We had grown corn in a rented 11 rai field but a lot of the locals would grow sugarcane. It was bad enough with the burning, though it seemed not to last long once it had been lit, it was the black flakes that seemed to float down for days that really (deleted) me off. It was a bit of a lottery when to do a family washing.

The last year we were there the farmer in the field beside us decided to rent in one of these harvester machines, that eventually chopped up the cane into small bits and dumped them into a big wagon. It worked great in the first field but the machine couldn`t do the business in the second field due to too many boulders in the field, so the farmer had to get a squad in to chop down the cane (the field was too near our house to burn.....thankfully).

  3. Thanks UKr, got it sorted now after a blether with Kay. I`ve to send her the info she requires, and, after she gets permission from London I will go down to Glasgow with my passport to get the visa. It saves me one trip down from north of Aberdeen and I don`t have to worry about the criteria I was on about.

    Thanks again mate.

Oh, btw, I had 4 happy years living in Cowdenbeath, and another 4 years living in Muchty (where I was next door neighbour to Jimmy Shand AND the Proclaimers used to babysit my kids.....true)

  4. For a few years now I have been applying for and getting a 1 year Non-Imm Type `O` ME from the Thai Embassy in London. I am married to a Thai and would go over to Thailand for 90 days, then UK for 90 days, then back to Thailand for 90 days etc, etc. I needed to send a copy of the wife`s ID, a copy of the Marriage Certificate, etc, along with my application, and, never a problem.

Now I will try to get a 6 month Non-Imm Type `O` SE from London, (twice a year) and now I have a dilemma...….I can apply, with all the family information asked by the Embassy OR, I can go the retirement route (which needs less information), and my dilemma is this...……..I will be changing the criteria for my application in London, and, with all the hassles people are having entering Thailand, will the change of criteria give me any problems at the airport in BKK (Suvarnabhumi).

    Thanks in anticipation.

  5. Went through yesterday for a 12.30 (luchtime) departure, they now have got people directing you from the line to the next available desk I was through there in less the 2 minutes, I actually got through quicker than my wife using her Thai passport, I was so impressed I had to comment to a senior officer sitting behind the desks, she thanked me for telling her.

Why go through differently from your wife? I always go through the Thai channel with my GF. Go through just in front of her and there`s not a problem, and that covers arriving and leaving. Done it many times.
  6. In the UK it`s the word `superb` that pisses me off....seems to me, when said it is people trying to make out they are a bit upper class than me. What`s the matter with someting being good, or even great.....only Kenny Dalglish, as a player, was superb.

  7. ^ probably a very controversial question, but does anybody decided to live in Isaan because of personal preference ? And not just because the Mrs is from there ?

To make everybody comfortable, my gf and I bought a piece of land near Pak Chong just because we like it.

Yes, Pak Chong for me also. I built a house nearby. Can get anything you need there and also not far from Korat.

Also Pak Chong is on the rail route and plenty buses to BKK.

  8. My tuppence worth......

In 1995 I turned diabetic (type 2) and immediately lost all interest in sex. No masterbating, no making love. I looked after the diabeties by diet-control. I was 48 years old at the time. 8 years later I discovered I had prostate cancer, and I often wonder if the two were connected. However, as I am on a crusade of awareness, all I can say is if you start to get boils (diabeties) or your pee starts to dribble out, or is not coming out in the same force (prostate cancer), go and see a doctor and ask for a PSA test. There must be many men that are not aware they have either of these conditions.

Now (I am a widower), as I come to the end of my working life, and think about the future I really do miss the physical side of things, but it is difficult to interest a lady when you cannot give her what she needs.

  9. Sorry, I cannot tell you directly but I sometimes go on a website called........ Clickthaihome. This shows houses and land for sale all over Thailand, along with the prices.

I have a house near Pak Chong and would guess it`s like all towns......expensive in the town and not so as you go further afield.

    Good luck

  10. Ridiculous thread?

One with ridiculous responses to ridiculous posts.........

`One with ridiculous responses` would be my answer. Some VERY silly replies to threads here when people are looking for serious and important (to them) answers and opinions. I`ve tried to start serious threads.....some worked but one particular one was taken over by a <deleted> on post No 2, and never recovered (the rest of the dickheads jumped in).

A forum for dickheads would be an idea but how do you run it?

  11.
NO chance meet her half way and move to the mainland she will still get home sick.

How old is she? I ask because IMO and from experience (and other couple also) seem to settle a wee bit quicker the older they are.

You mention gambling that would have me back peddling straight away.

Good luck you will need it.

25 , i dont really see the gambling as a problem , i mean they usually sit around we a hundred baht of ten coins and play we that and have grub and a laugh , sometimes drink but not all the time, its not everyday so im not to worried about it , the mainlands got its ups but its not all good , saftey wise i mean , but thanks for your advice , i think what is needed is just to chill out a bit see what happens , at the end of the day ill soon know if she doesnt like it after her holiday visa , all thats lost is a bit of money

Personally I have a Thai gf who lives with me here in a small town in the NE of Scotland. Dismiss the worry about the Scottish weather cos there are many Thai here. Yes it can be cold and raw but I cannot think of any Thais that have gone back to Thailand because of the weather. Food is not a problem as the gf always seems to have some sort of oriental food and does not eat much farang food. Also we both have jobs here. A necessity for your gf so-as not to look at the same 4 walls all and every day.

I have experience of life on the Isle of Lewis and I think your gf would settle in that environment ok, but as somebody mentioned it is up to the individual. Most islanders are very friendly so I would not see a problem. One thing you would have to think of, and make allowances for, is contact with her family. Don`t be like one guy here, who has a Thai wife, and cause arguments about the cost of the phone bill, better get a computer and get Skye of Windows live. Remember also that she will be 6000 miles from her home, any argument will have a bad affect on her cos she will feel so lonely. That is a big one in my book.

Lastly is my main moan......the amount of time spent on the phone by my gf, to any friends around here. Yak yak almost all day, I think things must be important and I await something to happen.....but it never does. I`m convinced they yak yak a load of crap, something to do, a way of keeping in touch.

Good luck in what you are trying to achieve, and always remember you have a plan B, in that you can always go back to Thailand.

Sorry if I have repeated anything already memtioned on the forum but it is a long thread and I haven`t read it all.

  12. Thanks mate, yeh that's kinda how I remember the prices being last yr - problem for us Brits is that the baht's slipped from 50 to £1 to the low forties :D

No, it hasn't gone that low - make sure you only change a small amount of money before you travel and change the rest once you're there.

The money changers in the UK are one of the biggest rip oufits anywhere in the world, especially in airports and the 'no commission' places.

You wouldn't believe the number of people who tell me I should go to the post office to change my money because they charge 'no commission', they give one of the crappiest rates available which of course includes the commission that they don't charge separately.

Lol cheers mate, yeh my parents told me exactly that - to go to the Post Office because of the lack of any commission, but when I looked at the rates I was shocked, it's like 42.8bht or something to the £ :)

So from the sound of it I should just take loads of £s over and change them at exchange booths - though will taking £1k+ in cash cause any problems at customs? And are £20s preferred over £50s particularly like in the UK or not really? (£50s means it'll be way less bulky!)

Remember what I told you in your other thread....make it English notes you take.....not Scottish. ok?

  13. Where's Scotland ?

    Can someone help me please

And on that piece of juvenile silliness can the moderators please close this thead. I`ve had a couple of pints of Tennants lager, which is maybe a couple less than master Snapo. I hope he reads his contribution when he grows up.

  14. Well one of the features of ATM's now is the ability to transfer cash to others accounts, pay bills, order pizza etc, so I guess you are wrong, they have these features.

Is it annoying at times, yes. :)

I`ve only taken cash out and didn`t know about the extra facilities. Thanks for enlightening me.

It happened once to me and the guy had a lot written down on a piece of paper, now I know why. Next time I won`t get annoyed.

Thailand is the ATM capital of the world. Just go to another one couple hander meter away

Yes, you are correct but I am paranoid the machine gobbles up my card....again. Did it once and I was lucky it was outside a bank, and it was during banking hours. I was in Thailand on holiday at the time. Can you imagine the predicament I would be in if it had been a remote ATM? And how much sleep would I have had that night?

    But you are theoretically correct.
