  1. Recently had a couple of disasterous days at The Admiral Suites (booked in error thanks to a Wotif screw-up/scam) and got the very firm impression there was ZERO money being spent on much needed maintainance and looking at the piece of cleared land to the rear I guess another high rise planned for that plot.

That use to be my favorite place to stay in Bangkok until my last visit in Jul 09. What you said is dead on, Even the TV reception was bad. They lost me as a customer.

Likewise on the TV but we had failed air-con in 2 consecutive rooms, they would just come up and bang it...stick ice cubes in it! Arrived back at 1am, broke again , sweltering night they wouldn't change room again"so sorry sir change tomollow", had to go out for an early meeting & pleaded with them to get it fixed so we could shower before check-out, of course it didn,t happen and it was like packing your suitcase in a Turkish bath. Awful place, escaped to the sanctuary of The Bedrooms on On Nut for a much needed respite.

All in favour of the demolition of The Admiral Suites....preferably with the moneygrabbing ***hole owners still inside :)

I had the same problem with the AC in both rooms, I turned out that the circuit breaker keep popping. found the breakers in cabinet above the fefrigerator and when it happened agian I just reset it and didn't bother to complain. My room was 306.

  2. Simple answer.

    Swampy operates 24 hours.

    Money exchange desks, food outlets.

Wait till you are out of airside, I believe the airside exchanges give less.

Dunno, could be wrong, was hearsay.

    No worries.

Good luck, at that hour most touts will be gone home.

wish that was true. Last time I came in on a JAL flight that arrived at 1150pm and those jerks were all over the place.

  4. That's what I was thinking. But after having problems recently, I just wanted to make sure. I had one rejected for having a pin hole in it!

I went today and got a handful that all look new, have the large face, and are not out of date.

    I appreciate the help!

I never had a problem with the date as long it is the current design. I have exchanged $100 billis issued as far back as 1993. Lot of them issued prior to 2002 still in circulation and still legal tender, besides they are closely checked to make sure they aren't counterfit when you exchange them.

  5. Hi,

I am planning to travel Thailand on July 10. I am planning to visit Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya and some islands in South Thailand. Heard that it will be June-October is rainy season in Thailand. Is it good to visit Thailand on July? Which part of Thailand(South, East,Central) is good to visit on July. Please also suggest me any additional information(weather and safety) related to the places mentioned above. Your reply is always appreciated.

    Thanks in advance...

It is always a good time to visit. I will be there 16Jul-1Aug, 1-16sep, 3-18Nov,12-27Jan and 15-30apr. Those are the ones paid for and more to come when those are done. Sure is nice to be a retired person. I just haven't made up my mind to live there yet.

  6. This article is from an organization that promotes Philippines properties, but it does cite national statistics. Makes one wonder how many travelers changed their plans based on Thailand's political challenges.

I did during my last trip to Asia, 18May-3Jun canceled Thailand to go to the Philipphines and won't make that mistake again. More expensieve except for the beer and sure isn't as safe or clean. I liked the people but overpriced hotels and bad food kills the fun.

  7. Reading this thread makes me really want to try living in Manila. It sounds exciting.

I just came back from spending two weeks in Manila and kind of went based on others recomendations. I was disappointed because they palce is dirty and the beggers are pushy ( which they a alot of). I judge a place based on my gag reflix and I had a lot of those while there. It wasn't the food stalls or markets but the smell of human waste, urine and rotting trash left on the streets. I'd pick Bangkok anytime.

  8. I am planning to come in to BKK for some shopping and entertainment, and have been overwhelmed with the choices of hotels, and locations. I want to do some shopping, and go out for entertainment in the evenings, so I thought Sukhumvit would best suite my needs. I got a rate of 1600 baht per night including breakfast, and I was wondering if this is the my best choice, or if any of the TV members can give another recommendation.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions, and comments.

I stay there every time I go the Bangkok, Two weeks each time. I saty on one of the one bedroom suites because of the long stay. I like it because of the location and the breakfast at the coffee shop is a plus. Now that they have free WiFi makes it better. Accross the street is a good laundry rum by a little chinse lady that does a good job. Also the foodLand in front of the hotel is handy. To each his own on hotels but I like it.

  9. Where in pattaya is a good place to purchase auto tires? Also, what is the best brand in thailand. Are the tires for sale in thailand made in thailand? Thanks for help.

I bought 2 tires for my Honda Jazz at Chairatyanyon - the shop is located on Sukhumvit road about 100 meters before Pattaya Nua - traveling on Sukhumvit from Pattaya Klang towards Pattaya Nua its on the same side of the road about 100 meters before Pattaya Nua -

  10. So here's what happened.

I'm on a flight back from the Philippines to BKK a few weeks ago, and I got stuck with the middle seat of three, full plane, two blokes on each side of me.

Bloke on the window seat o.k., bloke on the ailse seat pretty fat, and ends up, has a terrible gas problem. Especially when he falls asleep, farting away and seriously stinking up the section. It's like he's crapping his pants. Miserable.

Were there more seats on the plane I would have just moved, but there weren't. Really, what I wanted to do was pull down the oxygen mask, but then probably would have been arrested on arrival.

So what's the etiquette people? Do you just have to sit and suffer? Can you wake the passenger up and say "man, go to the bathroom and relieve all that gas, you're killing me!"

    What would you do? Anything?

I always carry a product called GAS-X in my carry on bag when I travel. I would have dug it out and offered it to that passenger. The stuff works.

  11. Emirates currently have a very good deal flying from Singapore to Melbourne.

    However I have read some pretty bad reviews of the economy seats on their 777 - 300s, which are configured 3 - 4 - 3, whereas virtually all other airline's 777s are 3 - 3 - 3.

What are the impressions of TV members who have flown Emirates economy (specifically seating - I understand everything else is fine).

I am over 6ft tall, and close to 100kg.

    Thanks

Been on a few that are 2-5-2 and 2-4-2 like American Airlines and Korean Airlines

  12. lat time in Bangkok I went to a beer bar off of sukumvit 20 and took turns all night buying rounds with 6 brits and spent less than 1000 THB plus got a mighty fine buzz out of it. Must of been in that place for at least 5 hours.
