  1. hi bina and all,

sorry to bother you again but i tried contacting the vet today, unavailable and the secretary said to call in 30 minutes. when i did, several times, mysteriously the phone was off the hook. :-(

i only wanted to know what shots he gave and to ask where (part of the body) the needle should be inserted.

btw, i am not writing from thailand, but philippines.

anyway, the present situation is that bunny, the dog-patient ate a little (rice with some meat flavored soup), wags her tail but is now having difficulty getting up. :-(

the medicine he is supposed to drink or injected with is anti-bacterial, chloramphenicol (pamitate). is this enough?

he is now only 10 lbs., must have lost 5 lbs in the last 4 days. i am attaching a picture. bunny is the furry one, with her brother, bugs. part terrier, part native dog. they were rescued from the streets when they were 3 months or so.

so which part of the body do i inject this anti-bacterial? and do i need to also inject her with the rehydration fluid? do i need to use the tablets or i can make a solution at home?

hope my questions are not stupid. really clueless about this.

    thanks in advance.

  2. seems to me that there is really no argument. everyone seems to agree thailand is better than the philippines. i do too. food, economy, wives, attitude, infrastructure, etc. so besides the fact that thais and filipinos look similar and the climate and topography are also the same, there should be no comparison.

but can we move on? and on a more positive note?

no one is being forced to live in the philippines so stop being so catty.

  3. a lot of people point out that the ability to speak and understand english is an advantage of the philippines.

    sometimes, i don't agree.

methinks it allows too much influence from other countries (particularly the english speaking ones of course) and can ruin a culture faster as the entry of information, etc is also easier. and if the people are confused and messed up, the damage is even more. hence, the mentality that the grass is greener elsewhere is prevalent as they see movies and glossy magazines from the west which show only the beautiful side. when i was in high school, a classmate and i would hole up in the library, leafing thru american mags like good housekeeping, better homes and garden, admiring the sunny and smiling ads in reader's digest and swore we will spend our adult life in the US.

yes, sometimes being a country with a language barrier can have its advantages, some kind of a natural protection. forced to be closed at first while it develops and grows. then when it can stand on its feet, it will open up little by little. the culture is intact and the tourists are happy. :o

  4. if i hadnt been reading the whole thread, i would have been more in the mood to reply...

but just for the sake of helping the tourism = economy, let me try":

    1. the last time i was in cebu was in 1989, island hopping, beautiful white beaches.

    2. i heard there's a good diving place called apo reef in dumaguete (island near cebu) but i havent been there myself. i am not a swimmer, let alone a diver. but dumaguete is pretty much used to western tourists, laid back but not that innocent anymore...

    3. i have been to boracay (dont know about diving there) but if you like the fun, party ambience...

    4. davao is ok...pearl farm resort is the most famous

    5. if you are willing to splurge, try el nido in palawan. they have a website. see for yourself. first class accommodation and treatment all the way. good diving and i was able to snorkle. safe.

  5. it depends on what kind of a traveler you are, and why you want to go to the philippines.

if you are the "regular" type who likes a smooth no-hassle vacation with the conveniences of modern facilities (like in bkk), then philippines is not such a good option. you are better off with other places in thailand (or maybe malaysia, singapore) which are more tourist friendly, cheaper, better food and living standards.

but then for tourists who are adventurous, who like to experience culture (not necessarily better, but different), see a different kind of southeast asian beauty (not necessarily the women), who do not mind some third world facilities every now and then (toilets, infrastructure) then the country is worth visiting. but like in other places, it pays to do your homework. definitely, manila is a riot, unless you want to experience the nightlife (stay in makati area).

but up north, there is the banaue (ba-na-we) rice terraces with friendly people (used to westerners), baguio city (mild climate), central philippines as some have already pointed out here, is cleaner and less busy, lots of good beaches. but basically, it is the people which fascinate the visitors most...messed up, confusing, but definitely interesting and know how to enjoy life. hopefully you get to stay long enough to know how fun they can be.

and if people stare at you, don't be scared. they are not out to kidnap you. they just don't see too many tourists around. they are just as fascinated with you.

tip: some westerners would wear a cap (for too blond a hair) and maybe a long sleeved shirt if they don't want to look too noticeable.

p.s. am not an expert on the "ladies" department so i will leave this to the others... but yes, that should not be a problem.

  6. This is the third day our 9-month old dog hasn't eaten of what we suspect is due to Parvo. We took her to the vet yesterday where she got 3 shots of medicines (the one who brought her forgot to ask what medicines). She did not have any anti-Parvo shot as we just rescued her from the streets when she was 3-4 months old.

She is still alert altho a bit weak. I tried force feeding her with rehydration liquid but she wouldnt even swallow. Is there anything else we can do?

Kindly PM me as this is rather urgent. Thanks.
