  1. its like living in the 'Wild West''....

..or LA. NY, Ferguson and so on.

I constantly read that Thailand is a 'Third World Country'. Why don't the writers go back to the 'First World' and to Mass shootings in Schools, Movie Theaters and inside homes etc? Are Magic Tattoos any different to Statues of a Man on a Cross, or so called 'Relics' or any other religious item. To each his own as long as they don't hurt you. Peace and Goodwill for everybody - please.

  2. I have a satellite dish but CTH tell me that they do not have an engineer in Chiang Mai and I have had zero reception for a week. They said that they can send a technician . . . from BANGKOK!! and I would have to pay! I have called their 1619 help desk . that is a misnomer - and they keep saying :"I will give this my personal attention" I have tried to get the email of a corporate Executive at CTH, but cannot find an address - I have also written to the Bangkok Post Editor and hope to get an answser from him. They have EPL for next season but will drop it after that - they paid 4 BILLION baht for the three seasons and hope to get a massive increase in viewers, but with no technicians here . . . ! I don't think that the Forum rules allow you to post the required email addresses, but if anybody has one, please post me directly.

Sending emails is a total waste of time to sort this out.just go to one of the many installers with the CTH dishes outside the shop and get one of their guys, will maybe cost under 1,000 b.

We used the one on Hang Dong Rd heading south past Big C ,the first shop ,but they are shops all over the place.

Just for interest what did you expect the Bangkok Post to do ?

Publish the story in the Business section - would stir things up - I have had a response and they are interested - we shall see.

  4. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

WHY NOT complain if there is something to complain about.

    <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

I get the impression that when these constant Thai bashers left their own country their towns had street parties in celebration. Everyone had cynical moments but to persistently complain about a nation that THEY CHOOSE to live in I'll never understand. Maybe the should try Syria, I hear it's lovely this time of year.

Thailand is Number one in complaining expats alt=tongue.png> no where in the world have I seen a more disgruntled bunch, if only they could leave, go some place else,

Thailand still dreaming of becoming #1 in something...anything

any place! but these dastardly Thais with their 47th ranking airports and cracked runways........... perhaps if they had better airports they would all leave alt=laugh.png>

This. I guess there are a lot of very happy expats in Thailand but it does seem that large numbers hate the place and reluctantly stay here for the sun and the s*x. Riles the heck out of me but then I guess they would complain just as much back home.....

Because even your demented brain must realize that you are a guest here, . Don't know about you, but if I invited a guest to my home and he did nothing but complain about it and me - he would find out very quickly where the door is.

  5. In my experience, finances rather than anything else will dictate where most end up.

I include Health in that as that is closely linked to finances too. If you have (regretably) an accident or illness the possible financial implications could and does wipe peoples resources out.

That's usually when they start to head for the "home country". Then it becomes a case of not what you "want" but what is the reality of the situation and what is practical.

Going back home, at least to the UK isn't a matter of 'choice' it is a matter of' 'fact'. It is not as simple as some on here would like to think. Here are a couple of points:

1: You DO NOT automatically qualify for health care (except emergencies.

2: In order to register with a GP and get some treatments, you have to be living back there for 6 months.

3: You have to PROVE you are back for good.

4: If you are financially impaired, you will have a long wait to get accomodation.

There is a lot more, I have researched quite a bit, and just received the following from the NHS:

....Those persons in receipt of UK state pensions who choose to live in another country, either permanently or for more than six months each year on a regular basis, can receive, free of charge, any hospital treatment the need for which arises while they are staying in the UK, as long as they previously lived here for at least ten continuous years. This would include if they fell ill or were injured while on a visit here, or if they needed urgent treatment of a pre-existing condition. However, it would not include pre-planned treatment or routine treatment of a pre-existing condition.. . . .

Read the last but carefully, they also went on the say that the 'Free Treatment' that Expats can receive "Is under review" and will be changed - very ominous. GHood luck to all, who may need help - like myself.

What is your source please, do you have a link you can post? As the rules stand presently, a UK citizen returning to the UK to settle permanently becomes elligible for free NHS services from the first day.

Hi hope the attachment works, I have not tried it before: If not contact me directly and I will try to help. The eralier quote was part of a reply I received from the NHS.

  7. Well explain , dont leave leave us all waiting ...... what happened...

You may get a more accurate responce ?

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

What has happened is firstly no concern of yours, or anybody other than the people involved. Secondly, all I was asking is "Is there such a thing as a lawyer who can and will take on a contingency case.

Have you considered asking a few lawyers? They are the only people that would be able to give you an accurate answer.

Of course I have, but the only answer I get is "We dom't" that is why I made it more general. Thanks.

  9. Is it possible to find a lawyer who is able to take on a case on a contingency basis. We would be suing a large company, who far outweigh us financially, so they have a massive edge, even if a weak case. If it is important to know, the police have been involved, and feel we are in the right. Thank you.

  10. Hope someone can assist - i need a small pocket voice recorder - not the one on my phone - so far the only i=one I can find is a slime (9 cm) one that was difficult to use due to the poor software and small buttons. Any suggestions as to what you know is available either in Bangkok or Chiang Mai would be appreciated.=. Please reply direct if possible.

    Thanks

Hopefully the thread won't slide into a slanging match between those who want all dogs put down and those who feel some degree of sympathy.

I didn't realize that dogs could get leprosy ... and wonder if that's an accurate diagnosis in this case.

Before 1973, when a Rhodesian vet stumbled upon a disease he initially thought was tuberculosis, nobody suspected that dogs might be able to contract one of the most dreaded human diseases in history -- leprosy. Serious clinical investigation of canine leprosy didn't get underway until the end of the 20th century, so it's still in its infancy. But even though scientists haven't yet pieced together the complete puzzle, they know that the disease isn't nearly as debilitating in dogs as it used to be in humans, and that it can be cured with the same antimicrobial drugs.

So how much are you going to donate ?
May I ask what business is that of yours? If you don't want to donate, that's up to you, maybe two beers less per day and you donate the money instead, would help, even encourage others. There are many caring people and caring venues round the country - PAWS in Phuket for example, who treat sick dogs, neuter them and put them into Temples or in a home whenever possible. So back to my original question, "what business of yours, unless you do donate yourself"?
  12. 1: I have two questions : Why when you have a work pass do you have to do a 90 day report and also have to get a Multi-Entry Visa?

2: Carrying your passport at all times is both risky (theft) and inconvenient, especially if you go to the beach etc, would it not be possible for Expats both retirees and Work Pass, to have a similar i/d card as Thais, that way if it is lost or stolen, you do not have the major problem that would apply to a passport.

I have not read all the posts, so if this is a repeat - my apologies.

  13. Hmm, that's less than good, let's hope he's wrong, changes his mind or that this is solely a Hua Hin issue.

It is not only inconvenient, but extremely risky to carry your passport all the time. It is inviting the wrong sort of people to attack ferangs in order to steal a passport, and carries a big risk of losing it. I can understand wanting to clean up the illegals, but this way surely is inviting more crime from those that want to traffic in stolen passports?

  14. Lots of good advice for Thai wives.......anyone notice that the OP's wife is from Singapore?

Yes exactly why I stressed a Singaporean. I have no worries about being ripped off by her. The only reason I have the lone account under my name only is as I may be going back on a retirement visa, I will need the 800,000 in the bank for 3 months, this is already in place. I tend to think that if I make a will, either handwritten or notarized, giving numbers of the accounts held (including joint) it should be okay, but I am not 100% sure.
  15. I am currently here on a work Permit, I was on a retirement visa before and may have to go back to that in the near future. I have 800,000 in an account which has to be in my name only; my question, my wife is Singaporean, if I have an account separate to our joint one, how does she get the money on my death? Can I draw up a simple will leaving her EVERYTHING including bank accounts.

  16. You guys disgust me. You'd help Thais (who would NEVER help you) but probably wouldn't help your own kind.

No wonder they call us dumb farangs

1267 posts! I aqm willing to bet that 1266 show your ignorance, amongst other things. "Thais would NEVER) help you"? So how come they allow you to live in their country? Maybe because nobody in your wants you in yours, so you asked to be allowed to stay here. To the main subject, I say, why even ask the question? The OP knows the people, he knows if he trusts them, he say's they are nice people - he can afford it. So what is the worst that can come form it - loss of a night out - not even that. Look inside yourself and decide if you have any charity and humanity inside. As for you Paully - have you sent out nasty post 1268 yet?

  17. We are a Registered company here in Bangkok, I do not wish to elaborate on the nature of the business as this may contravene the rules on this forum. - our parent company is in New York and we have a Director based in the UK. They want him to come here for a 'while' to see how the business can be improved in the way it operates, staff reviews, product control etc. I should point out that he is unable to get a Green Card in the USA (reasons withheld) - My question - does he need a Work Pass to come and do the above? Thank you.

  18. It's unusual for Thais to ever empathize with any other nation on its tragedies. They usually get embarrassed in to running a story in the Thai press days or weeks after an international incident. Unless of course Thais were involved. For example MH370 had no known Thais on board and therefore it was second or third class news. The Katrina hurricane. in the US had Thailand days later committing to send $10,000 USD. Countless other global incidents and human tragedies have either been totally ignored or haphazardly noted later by the Thai press.

Rarely if ever do you see Thai wealth giving in any tragedies or at all even in the Thai homeland. Thai self centeredness is a shameful characteristic of Thais. They say what goes around comes around.

The only good thing about your post is the replies it brought, nit the usual Troll rubbish, but from people who unlike you are happy to be allowed to live here, and appreciate all that is around us, the kindness and generosity of people who do not have a lot to give, but their time and caring. I would love to know how much YOU donated to the above disasters and even the Tsunami that hit here? To be honest, if brains were taxed, you could donate the refund you would get.

  19. Please explain the cultural aspect on this - I just don't get it.

Explained to you already. Expect similar negative experiences until you finally do get it through your thick skull.

Playing with your tablet doing personal stuff while working is wrong in any culture!!!!! Duh...

Gotta stop worrying about what's wrong and instead worry about what's going to work best to get you want you want ASAP. Moral superiority and self-righteousness aren't going to get you anywhere.

    Next.

I have the perfect solution on how to get treated 'nicely' by Thai staff anywhere. If all the Bigoted, Nincompoops who are so Anti-Thai where to go back home - if the family want them - and leave Thailand to the Thais and the many nice Farangs the Smiles would return PDQ I have personally seen Farangs acting in a way that made me ashamed of being one.

  20. I know people will disagree with this, but despite what the rules may or not may say about taxi drivers having to take passengers, I can sympathize with them on choosing not to take some persons to where they want to go.

Many taxis have to be returned to the depot by specific times of the day for another driver to take over. If for example a cabby had to return his car at 4 pm on a Friday to its depot around Rama 4, and he was working Sukhumvit area at around 2pm, so 2 hours to play with. Some person stops him and asks him to take them to KSR or Pinklao, there is a very distinct possibility given the traffic on a Friday evening, that he would be unable to get there and back in 2 hours, and therefore does not want to go. What should he do? give up stopping for people and waste 2 hours of fare time on the of chance that someone asks him to take them miles away? My personal opinion is that taxis should have the right to pick and choose who they take, and where they take them, especially if they have a genuine reason that does not allow them to take them.

In 6 years or so, i could count the number of minor issues i have had with taxis on one hand.

Exactly, that is why I do not consider it a big issue. End of the day, they are poor bastards.

Well what do u expect from a developing and lawless country! First world treatment?

The worst I ever got taken was by a London cabbie. Does that mean England is a developing and lawless country?

Ditto for New York - not only ripped off - I had to direct him to Times Square!!
