  1. Valid question gentlemen, it would be interesting to learn how the curriculum aligns with the average Thai education facility. What a pity the responses you garnered appear to be from those who have no idea, but wish to shout down something they know nothing about, little better than those mentioned on this thread they seek to criticise it would appear. Not to worry, if the schools are so prominent and carry such high influence I'm sure there will somebody who has more informative input along shortly

Shouting down what you nothing about is no different to defending what you nothing about.

It's hardly surprising that posters are criticising the attempt to stop a rally. This is the main reason that the Dems cannot make any inroads in Isan - they are not allowed to do so. Plus there are multiple cases of the same sort of red shirt 'democracy', some a lot worse that this one.

I think you will find the democrats made inroads into Issan and were prepared to enter into conflict with the locals who tried to prevent them agitating the cambodian troops on the border.....not very bright if you wish to gain the respect of the Issan electorate

Please look at a map and explain how a rally in Khon Kaen affects locals at the Cambodian border and/or cambodian troops stationed at the border?

  2. Look at the bright side guys (not girls).

    1. The red shirts force the PTP government to borrow alot of money year after year to finance the rice scam and other scams.
    2. Eventually the country will no longer be able to borrow money, it will be forced to stop all the populist policies and the artificial income will automatically stop for most red shirts.
    3. By then they will be used to a slightly higher standard of living, and want to keep it up.

    4. Thousands of cute Isaan girls will flock to Bangkok and Pattaya to make sure their parents can continue to pay off the car loan etc.
    5. I, and perhaps some of you guys, will be sitting waiting in Bangkok or Pattaya, making sure the girls do not take the trip in vain.

The beauty of it all is that the harder the red shirts fight and the more the PTP borrows, the sooner the above will come true. It is like waiting for x-mas, except the date is not yet certain :-D

  3. Facing seven years in jail for each account and a 10 million baht fine, for telling the truth. Meanwhile a hiso oxygen thief who, in a premeditated act, drove his Mercedes at a group of people, killing one, gets a two year suspended sentence and a hug from his anger management group, having parted with the princely sum of 800k baht to the family of the deceased. Thailand, hub of f****d up countries.

    +1

Couldn't have put it better myself.

That would be 10 million USD, or around 300 million Baht

  4. "Integrated Female Labour Group's chair Thanaporn Wijan said the government had not paid enough attention to solving women's problems"

I do not get this statement at all. Just a few weeks ago a large group of male police (all government employees) and reporters gave plenty of attention to a 12 year old naked girl with big problems, they were so thorough that they even took pictures and movies and published them so the rest of us could pay attention as well.
In my home country, which is generally considered a modern civilized country, government employees do not pay half as much attention to 12 year old naked girls as their Thai counterparts, and those that do are generally arrested and prosecuted as if they had done something wrong!!
To say that Ms. Yinglucks government does not pay enough attention to women's problems is simply not true!

  5. For the exit poll results to be swayed towards PTP, voters have claimed to have voted for them when they did not. Why would they do that, if not fear of repercussions were their vote known.

That fear may not be justified, but says a lot of the perception of PTP and their red thugs.

If the fear of repercussions is not justified (which it plainly isn't - when did you last hear of red vs red violent encounter) and as you admit, the only perception of the PTP and their "Red Thugs" is that coming from your side of the fence, not the UDD members.

Why do you continue to post these derogatory posts about the UDD?

If you read the OP above you would have noticed that there was another reason put forward for the results to favour the PTP Candidate, and it wasn't your perceived threats:

    >He said he noticed that Pheu Thai Party supporters were more confident in expressing their political opinions, while the Democrat supporters were not so expressive.<

    /span>

    KISS.

There are many possible reasons for the inaccuracy and the perception of the PTP and/ or red shirts with regards to violence may well be one of them although I doubt it's the whole answer. If it was part of the problem and assuming that it's unjustified then work needs to be done to correct the perception. It's no different than the Dems being viewed as not representing the poor and that picture being in need of change if they wish to be elected nationally.

'If the fear of repercussions is not justified (which it plainly isn't - when did you last hear of red vs red violent encounter) and as you admit, the only perception of the PTP and their "Red Thugs" is that coming from your side of the fence, not the UDD members.'

Either I'm losing my powers of understanding or the above statement doesn't make sense.

I agree that some on here continue to post derogatory posts about the UDD but then don't you do the same in the opposite direction?

I for one, and I am probably not the only one, fear the UDD, and therefore find it immensely important to continue to remind everyone who the UDD is, and what they may become. First, red shirt villages to brainwash the farmers. Remember the taxi driver who said red shirt radio informed red shirts that Thailand's undergound held more oil than Saudi Arabia, and that the rich were secretly pumping it up and selling it? Then once they are brainwashed, use them as an army to attack Bangkok and/or anyone they disagree with .... Oh wait, that already happened, sorry, my bad!

  6. with a 10000 PTP supporting red-shirts and the PTP candidates mates providing armed security at the polling stations, it this at all surprising?

I think its very suprising. 10,000 UDD armed UDD supporters providing security?

Could you turn down the Hyperbole amplifier next time?

i didnt say armed UDD supporters providing security, I said the PTP candidates mates were providing armed security. learn to read.

Perhaps you could be more articulate in what you want to say but your statement clearly insinuates that the the PTP/Red Shirts were providing armed security. Any photos or statements in the media indicating that people were intimidated by these armed mates of PTP candidates? That would be nice to validate your hyperbole.

I read the comment earlier, and had no problem understanding exactly what was written. It did not even occur to me that the OP was suggesting 10,000 armed red shirts. I thought the PTP candidate's mates were the police, since he is himself a police officer.

I therefore agree with the OP, learn to read! Of course if you really like or hate a specific group, then that does tend to influence ones perception of issues related to that group.

  7. Just keep the money coming.....!!! I wish I was a rice man !!

There will soon be so much rice stored, that it will need a fleet of super tankers to move it.....to say nothing of the trucks and trains to ship it to the wharf.

Something must give.....it's an insane policy that, apart from making many people unusually wealthy in a very short time, must surely begin to jeopardise this countrys' credibility sooner or later.

The UN is well aware of the current stocks stored and it may well be the next buyer....hopefully something will happen.

What do you mean soon? It takes a large fleet of super tankers to move the 10+ million tonnes stored already.

  8. My guess is that the wheel was still on the truck after the accident and still is on the truck today. It only fell off in the police report! :-)

Clearly you don't know how things work around here. A spanner can take a wheel off after an accident. We are in AMAZING THAILAND and farang is lowest caste scum. anything can happen and thats why I live in New Zealand. Seen too many people strangled and hung up with shoe laces. Thailand absoltuely scares me. Happy to have escaped alive.

I complety understand what Thailand is about! My belief will have no bearing on the outcome of this or any other Thai law. This does not mean i cannot have an opinion on this or any other subject regarding Thai society on a forum without someone telling me i should go home if i dont like it.

I dont like many things in my own country, maybe thats why i choose to live here.

Not sure if you got burnt here or not but you have a very negative view to Thailand. It not paradise here and there are many injustices but overall im happy!

    Don't feed the troll :-)

  9. They found out the wheel was loose and this was the cause of the accident. Couldnt the wheel became loose or off in the crash?

    >They found out the wheel was loose and this was the cause of the accident. Couldnt the wheel became loose or off in the

    crash?

Of course the wheel fell off.

Im aware it came off! But how do they know if came off before? It could of came off in the impact of the crash!

That would be fairly easy to prove - if anyone actually wanted to. The truck obviously travelled quite a distance after the wheel allegedly fell off, and I guarantee that tyre marks on the grass and the road from a 3 wheel truck are very different from those of a 4 wheel truck.

Further, the normal reaction to losing a tyre is to brake, which would make the tyre marks even more clear, however, the driver in question for some reason seems to have travelled quite a distance after losing his wheel before managing to brake and stop his truck, which is weird as according to the police he was neither asleep nor speeding. Anyway, the respective locations of the wheel and the truck would also tell if the wheel fell off at impact or long before.

You do not have to be a rocket scientist to solve this mystery, however you probably do have to be smarter or less corrupt than a Thai police "investigator".

  10. Why on Earth would they put his name in the story? I don't think that will encourage anyone to do the same if they see that you are going to have news articles with your name all over the place.

Agree, a smart intelligence agency would get as much information from a defector as possible, in exchange for a reduced sentence and/or a witness protection program. The public would never know that anyone had defected, let alone the defectors name. This way neither the defector nor his family would need protection, and information provided by the defector can be used to surprise the militants.

By publishing that a defector has surrendered as well as his name they endanger both the defector and his family. They risk that others will be too scared to defect, and they ensure that any information the defector may have is useless, as the militants now know that the authorities know what the defector knows, and will therefore take precautions.

Unfortunately I have a feeling that in Thailand a photo-op is much more important than all of the above!

  11. The whole thing boils down to one of two choices.

1, Should Thailand borrow a few trillion baht and thereby greatly increase public debt and interest payment for many decades. Give half of the money to various corrupt politicians, and use the other half to build the mentiond projects. The projects could be completed and be good for Thailand, but could also completely fail, as those responsible has already received their bribes and have therefore lost interest. With no more info to go by, the odds off success with the projects are probably 50%. The odds of losing half to corruption are 100%.

    2. Should Thailand not borrow any money. This guarantees that public debt does not increase, and interest payments do not increase. It also guarantees that the mentioned corrupt politicians will not get to steal public money.

However, it also guarantees that the projects will not be built, and that Thailand will therefore not get any of the benefits that such projects bring.

This decision will affect Thailand, and all Thais, both rich and poor, for many years to come, so I hope the right decision is made!

  12. I have often wondered why most americans seem to have no clue what's going in the world around them, but it all makes sense to me now. Their newspapers and "journalists" are of the same quality as the Thai ones :-)

You simply making such an ignorant statement pretty much confirms you have no idea whats going on in the world around you. Let me guess. Youre from Manchester or some other depressing UK hellpit right?

    Whatever makes you happy :-)

  13. Thailand steps up measures to prevent illegal ivory trade.

    By Digital Media

    20130219181634-640x390x2.jpg

BANGKOK, Feb 19 - Thailand's National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department has instructed local ivory traders to beware of involvement with the illegal ivory trade.

Deputy Director-General Theerapat Prayoonsit presided over a meeting of 60 local traders to educate them about the new regulations in order to prevent illegal ivory trade.

The department asked for cooperation from ivory traders not to sell ivory products to foreigners as the goods may be shipped to other countries and the action is against the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Mr Theerapat said 277 foreigners bought ivory from Thailand and were arrested in other countries, so the kingdom was branded as the centre of ivory trade and a transit route of African ivory trade.

Under the new regulations, ivory traders need to have certificates of origin to verify their products as well as commodity lists to report the amount of ivory and the products which are made from it. Sellers also have to keep record of their customers and have their papers identifying them.

The department will instruct traders across the country before February 21, when department officials will start inspecting traders' operations.

If they fail to follow the regulations, legal action will be taken against them. (MCOT online news).

Thailand in a nutshell. Instead of a complete ban, which will make it very hard for anyone to do business, Thailand as always opts for the muddy middle way, so business can continue, and everyone involved, including police and politicians, can collect bribes.

I am sure the customers will survive without ivory, so the only reason Thailand is doing it's best to eradicate elephants, is in order to protect the businesses of 60 ivory traders and some bribe collectors.

What a shameful day to be Thai - but in my humble opinion every day is!

  14. Wait

It's not banned in TL? blink.png

The more i know, the less I want to know sad.png

I was thinking the same thing. I thought there was an international ban on this barbaric business.

From what I understand: It's illegal to kill elphants/rhinos for their ivory, BUT you can trade ivory from animals that die of natural causes. This might be old info. Anybody that has more information please share, as I am also a bit grey about this issue.

    That is correct info.

However, it is not possible to see on the ivory how or why the elephant died, so all ivory from Thai elephants then in effect becomes legal. Further, it can be difficult to distinguish African and Thai ivory, unless properly examined, so African Ivory is easily traded as Thai ivory once it gets into Thailand.
