    3) Sure, I'm concerned.  But I'm also concerned about the millions of Thai's who will lose their livelihoods if Chinese tourism was banned.

That's just short term thinking. The Chinese are only 30% of tourists to Thailand. If and when a major outbreak occurs in Thailand the other 70% will avoid Thailand like the plague. That's when the real damage will occur. The ban itself would not be permanent so no long term effects should come of it.

China is as huge as the whole of Europe and population twice that of Europe, to ban everyone from China is not only immature but racist.

That's just like saying that if a virus is found to infect a group of people in England, the whole of Europe should be banned. Is this logical? Would Europeans not feel offended?

Anyway, China is having a lockdown of the city that is the epicenter to prevent it from spreading.

Every single region in China has infected people. Nearly half of the people from Wuhan left the city before it was shut down. Therefore limiting entry for all Chinese is simply logical because it doesnt matter which region they're exiting from the chance of an infected passenger is going to be higher than say a region with no reported cases. In your example you used the UK as the only place that had infections as an excuse to ban the whole of Europe. This is more akin to all the countries in the EU having infected people, which is what is happening in China. Not all regions in China are in lockdown. So there are places with reported cases that are still exporting passengers around the world.

  3. What a coincidence... Two days ago I bought TITANIUM BACKUP PRO. Price was modest. Then after buying and installing I learned that it works only on 'rooted' devices , and there was a whole song and dance about how to do this -- it's not just 'press button A'. Do technicians at Panthip offer a rooting service? My computer buddies all warned me against doing rooting as it is like handing a psychopath a knife in a crowded elevator - I am certain to screw things up doing so.

This device is pretty much fool proof. Follow the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849235

Basically you just need to download one file (Root_SuperSU.0.96.Only-signed.zip) onto the device. Then reboot it, but into recovery mode (only requires hold down some buttons during boot). Then choosing the install option from the menu and choose the file that you downloaded onto the Tab (Root_SuperSU.0.96.Only-signed.zip).

Reboot again and it'll be rooted. Finished.

  4. The P6800 is sold here, brought one for mum two months ago.

To do a proper full backup, you're going to have to be rooted. There is no way to backup system and application data without root and they're the important things that most everyone wants to maintain.

The 6800 takes about five minutes to root for someone even mildly competent (if it isn't already) .

The best app to backup apps and their data is Titanium Backup. I would also recommend purchasing the pro version, it really is worth the money.

Once everything is backed up using TiBu copy the entire contents of the internal memory to somewhere for safe keeping. Usually not needed but you never know what could happen.

Then do a factory reset and restore your stuff from TiBu.

Thanks but none of those are working, I think I was too slow to come back and check and other people have used them :(

  6. I don't get all the attacks that I see aimed at Starbucks. At home I drink freshly ground Kenyan AA from a French press, but if I'm outside with family or friends we'll stop by a Starbucks and I'll enjoy that just as equally.

They serve a pretty good cuppa and provide a pretty relaxing and comfortable atmosphere to enjoy it in.

Here in Thailand their business is booming, and I doubt that would be the case if the coffee they made wasn't up to snuff. In Australia it was a different matter, they went into an already entrenched cafe culture.

The same thing is happening in France now, but they've learned from their mistakes and are now trying to adapt their stores and their coffees to the local drinking trends and culture.

  7. To use for cleaning food is okay to drink is not okay.

Khlong Prapa is the Khlong used for this water if I remember correctly, and a few months ago a body part was fished out of it.

Raw water, is not going to start off smelling off roses regardless of what source or country it's coming from. A body . . . . a single body . . . . I doubt very much that that is going to in any way affect the 5 million cubic meters of water produced by the MWA daily.

Correction, with stats in hand from http://www.mwa.co.th/download/prd01/file/bkplant_eng.pdf:

    Max.Capacity per Day (m3)

    Source of Production

    Bangkhen WTP - 3,600,000

    Samsen WTP - 550,000

    Thonburi WTP - 170,000

    Mahasawat WTP - 1,200,000

Grand total of: 5,520,000 cubic metres

  8. I have never once in years of living and cooking daily in Bangkok ever used bottled water for cooking, washing fruit, or cleaning dishes. I don't know any Thais that do either. You really think restaurants are using bottled water? Or the street stands? Of course not. Everyone is ingesting tap water in Bangkok every single day, even if you think you aren't. It's fine.

    Righto.

Just from the sheer amount of people using it should be a pretty good indication of the quality in itself. Who's ever seen any negative news reports tv/newspaper/internet of sickness cause by the water coming out of the taps in bangkok.

  9. Sorry to disagree, but please read the previous threads for more information. Most reports from world organizations say it's not world standard-top class stuff. Hard to find that in most countries anyway! And a lot boils down to the delivery pipes from the water authority to your house. One small leak can allow all sorts of nasties to leak into your water supply.

The water is not tested according to world standards and comes, basically, from the Chao Praya. Nuff said?jap.gif

andrew gave a link to WHO/THAILAND, what you gave were links to threads with posts from forum members. Links from reputable organisations that state the water that's directly leaving the MWA is less than world standard would be more compelling for your case.

But as I said the piping from the MWA to the tap is another matter.

  10. I think a lot of people know by now that the water that flows out of the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority is pretty much world standard--top class stuff. But there's still lots of myths bordering on superstition about the contaminations that the water may pick up while en route before it comes out of your tap at home.

  11. Samsung all the way. Might be more expensive, but you also get lots of benefits:

    1. Most of their devices on the market now are usually performance leaders in their category

    2. Reliable and stable hardware with great construction

    3. Great after sale service should anything go wrong

    4. Great resale value (check the secondhand market for proof)

    5. Pack leader in terms of battery life across the range

    6. Larger developer community (simply because people have more Samsung devices)

    7. Huge third party peripherals market

I've got both the 7.0 and the 7.0+. I was going to get the 7.7 but read some things about AMOLED screens that turned me off that idea (specifically burn in issues).

  12. I decided not to wait for the perfect tab. I tried a 10" I-Pad didn't see the point of it TBH. It is hard to hold with one hand so to watch a movie or even surf comfortably you need to prop it up. Might as well use a netbook as it can prop itself up, now I know why they are called coffee table accessories.

One of the guys I met at work had the Galaxy Tab 7" 3G he bought in Malaysia. He let me play with it a bit and I liked the size of it. Easy to hold, surfing was nice as was video, the picture quality is awesome.

Bought a wifi Galaxy tab for 9900 Baht and couldn't be more happy with it. I have read reviews about the old operating system but I don't see anything wrong with it. Every app I have loaded works great and there are thousands of free apps.

What I like is there are so many apps for young and older kids. My 3 & 5 year old love the apps suited for their age like "Kid Mode". There are also tons of coloring and drawing programs suited for the little ones.

Anyways I think I will stick with 7" tabs I really like the portability and ease of holding it (also for my kids to hold).

I hope there are more 7" models coming out in the future.

Agreed on all points, really convenient size to take and use anywhere. My 3 year old also loves it and it seems like it's almost the perfect size for her.

Minor note: I've upgraded mine to a custom ROM (Overcome) so now it's running Android 2.3.3 along with a few nice kernel tweaks amongst other things. And so far I haven't noticed any abnormalities associated with running a custom ROM on the thing.

  13. Okay so I've not been doing anything much about this, but now I just want to finally get this sorted. Been doing some research and searching, the true visions dish that I already have and is hooked up is the small red one (Ku-band dish I believe). So been looking around for just the receiver, seems to be about 500thb (1, 2). Would these work with my dish? And if I buy one would the dish need realignment? And also what can it be used to connect it to (DTV?).

  14. If you can replace the KU band dish with a 4 to 5 ft C band dish w/LNB and then buy 500-1000 baht C band settop boxes (and 500 baht can get you a good, basic C band box) then you don't need to worry about a subscription card nor rainrade...and you'll get way over 100 free-to-view channels with well over 50 of them being Thai channels to include Ch 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, etc. You can still use the same RG-6 cabling currently installed. Just like the TrueVisions KU band dish, the C band dish would be pointed at the Thaicom 5 statellite. But if you live in a condo I know you may not have the option of installing the larger C band dish.

Seriously struggling to find someone local who will do _ANYTHING_ for me for less than 2k. Wife's also not too happy with the reception from the rabbit ears, but it works and it's cheap so that's all she'll get for the moment.

  15. What's the correct term for a can of compressed air (the kind used for cleaning dust from electronics). Having never brought one here or even remember seeing one on display I can only assume it's: กระป๋องอัดลม. Would this be correct?

  16. Not true about needing special hardware for multiplexing multiple connections. Currently I have my home server hooked up to my own connection with a LAN cable and it's also connected to the neighbours' wifi connection. With just a simple confuguration Windows 7 uses both connection to the fullest bandwidth available. Which at the moment is 1.6 MB/s in utorrent.

Note: I have the neighbours' full permission to use their connection, since the a lot of the things that I download finds their way over there as well ;)

  17. Agree, scammed on the aircon regassing. No way a car needs regassing at just 20K unless something is faulty, in which case it should be covered under warranty.

This service should have cost you 2137 Baht by my reckoning.

Even that's expensive - the last VIOS I owned was serviced until 40K (when sold) and never more than 1600 Baht. It appears you opted for the more expensive synthetic oil though, which is ~500 Baht more expensive than the OEM standard mineral oil.

I never chose which oil to put in. I was given the list of things for the service before it began and the guy never explained to me what was actually on it or even told me that changes could be made with other options; again the bad service I was talking about. It was given to me with the very noticeably compulsory wai and I was told to sign then go sit down.

  18. I have had most Toyota models available in LOS, so i wonder how a 20k km service can cost 5300 baht?

Including AC clean, I have payed max 3200 baht for any model.

I would assume not servicing your Toyota at Toyota would void warranty. B Quick is not udated on quiet recalls carried out on Toyotas for free, and they will gradually replace your Toyota with copy parts

BTW, if you dont want AC cleaned to make it more effcient and provide you with clean air, cansell it and save 1600 baht and 90 minutes :)

Scanned the receipt for ya to browse through. I called a week ahead before I brought the car in today and told them the right side air con had a funny sound coming out from it. So that's why I assumed they wanted to clean the whole system. Because a work-mate just recently did the20k with his own VIOS at the same place as well and it wasn't more than 4k. After they finished all the work and I paid the bill (5006thb) and 2 1/2 hours later I started to drive out and noticed the sound was still there. Turn around and took it back. Mech came out and took it back into the shop, 1/2 hour later explained and the 'blower' had a problem and had to be replaced. Ordered part today and I'll have to take the car back (all free though). Real nightmare of a day :(

  19. Sitting and typing this at Toyota dealership while the car is getting 20k service. This is gonna cost me 5300. Because they tacked on for a need to clean/refill the air-con system (1600). Their customer service seems to also be quite lacking, quite rude and indifferent counter service. I really don't want to come back for the 30k now. So I was wondering any problems with taking my business to B-Quik or other such places in terms of the 100k/3y warranty? I've heard nothing but praises for B-Quik from the members here. From the more knowledgeable mechs to their customer service in general. Any other places to recommend? I'm now going to have the pleasure of sitting here now for 2 hours totally hating this place and wishing it would catch on fire.

  20. I think you can. We've got a UBC dish. It's linked through a True paid for box downstairs so we get the channels there. The TV man ran a second cable from the same dish, to the bedroom, installed a separate box which gets lots of Thai channels. The box cost 1000Baht i think. so you should be able to use the dish, pointed as it is now and get ,I think 30 or so mainly Thai channels.

That's just about what I'm looking for. Thanks for letting me know such a thing has an existence out there. I'll try to find someone (local) who sells something like it and can come install it for me. I also think the dish might need a minor realignment. It hasn't been hooked into for a year, so might it have become misaligned slightly?

    Again, big thanks!

  21. Sorry, can't help you but I do have a question: I'm looking to build a weekend house in a spot that only True mobile gives me a signal. What problem have you had with the mobile service?

Thanks, in advance, for the answer.

Mainly just that their GPRS service sucks. They price it so low that they have a massive user base and not enough bandwidth to go around. That was my experience with them in the past, dunno if anything's changed.

  22. I previously had a true vision (UBC) installation but upon cancellation they took the black box (receiver) but left the sat dish installed and still hooked up. Just yesterday I decided not the renew the cable contract, which they just cut today. The reason for canceling both isI don't watch the TV, my wife love the lakorns which are on free to air channels. So I was wondering if I can just go out and buy the box (receiver) and also the card (just for freeview). The other option being a normal antenna -- but really don't want a big TV antenna hanging up on the roof.

Forgot to mention I currently use True for the home phone and internet. But will NEVER ever again for mobile.
