No full body harness? My company requires full fall protection above 6 feet, much less 66 floors.

With all the suggestions one factor has been overlooked......The venue needs to be near an Airport, IE, Udon or Nong Kai, as memebers from Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya or elswhere can then get there easily! It also needs a few decent Hotels.
Good point, but Udon and Nong Khai are NOT the only airports in Isaan. Maha Sarakham is just about the centroid of Isaan, but Roi Et, which is often referred to (locally at least) as the hub of Isaan because of it's central location with roads in all directions like the spokes of a wheel, also has an airport with daily morning flights and five (per week) evening flights to/from Bangkok. See attached map of Isaan. There are also many hotels and resorts in Roi Et and other entertainment spots as previously noted.
yea i agree. what is the point of choosing a location of an Isaan party for the sake of non-Isaan farangs? If Phuket or BKK farangs want to have a party, start a thread. If you want to go to the Isaan party, then find a way to get there. i don't think the majority of the people attending this party will fly. it will be attended by the farangs that live within 1-2 hours of the location.
Isaan is a huge area with thousands of farangs. i think there should be more meetups in more localized areas. of course those already happen without the permission or notification of TV..

yea that is a weird list of city choices in the poll, all on the fringe of Isaan.IMO maha sarakham / roiet would be good venues, central to everyone in isaan then so not too much travel required, almost all of the other locations are on the Thailand/Isaan border (although admittedly at least Khon Kaen has all major highways leading there, although bad luck if you live in ubon lol)
Mahasarakham is just about in the center of Isaan, 3-4 hours from all edges. I live between Maha and Roiet and there is a massive pool complex across the 23 from our house with an Olympic size pool, huge kiddy pool, and picnic areas. Along with lots of beer and whiskey (and 100+ farangs in the area). That pool might be ideal because attendees could stay in Roiet (where there's a decent brothel), Maha (where there's a nice 4-star hotel), or the bungalow motel in our village (at 350 a night).
Oh Roiet also has an airport..

That's easy. People underestimate the underground economy here and the percentage it represents. Scamming foreigners out of their money. Foreigners buying/building houses for in-laws and wives and cannot have their name on the property. At the slightest whim the foreigner can be thrown out of the house they expected to retire or just live in and many are dumb enough to repeat the same thing. Not to mention the pros that have multiple boyfriends abroad collect huge sums of money. These are thousands of men bringing thousands of dollars, pounds, etc into the country. All this cash feeds this economy.
judging by your several anti-Thailand posts here, i would say you have some bad karma. a majority of the expats in Thailand are having good experiences. as a suggestion, maybe you should stop dating bargirls and ladyboys..

Why not make imports more easy, but have every vehikle be tested before it is allowed on the Thai roads? Keep strickt rules and procedures and ofcourse tax payments and payment for the inspection and testing. Tja.... it seems that we all have to drive a Thai eco car or a Rayong pickup. Arai ka dai.
you can't enforce anything when many 'authorities' down to the lowly customs inspector takes bribes.
we have a nice sedan for family trips, but we generally drive our 2 Nissan March's for daily use. they are cheaper to operate and easier to park. i sold my Mercedes (and gave up dreams of owning another one) when i moved to Thailand. at these taxes, its better to build another house or 2 than buy a Merc.

some hi-so a/holes got around the extremely inappropriate auto import tax, so they ban used imports nationwide.
same same..

it was only a 2-year jail term. if he's such a great guy, why didn't he just serve it? he would be out now and probably PM again. its not like a hiso billionaire would suffer in jail. they'd put him in the warden's mansion if he even stepped foot in the prison. it would probably have been commuted to house arrest.
the whole thing screams pu$$y, regardless of your political opinions..

I now have new children, a new wife (half the age and one third the weight of my former UK wife), and a new family farm (well it can never be my farm, but it can be my childrens family farm)
thats really what its all about. i am an under-40 web worker, not farmer, but Thailand allows me a much better marriage and life than my previous married life in the US.
in response to the old, crabby complainers here, i am not caught up by "trust" issues even tho i make several million a year. i am happy that our house, lands and all i have will go to my wife and kids when i fade away. who should it all go to? my family back home that i haven't seen in years? the US govt so they can wage more wars of aggression?
as far as health, i pay 25k baht a year for 1st class health insurance that allows me top level care in any private hospital in the country, including the local private hospital which is as nice as a 4-star hotel. this after not being able to afford (or willing to pay) several thousand dollars in health insurance a year in the US (*before* paying deductibles, non-covered hospital bills, medicine, transport, etc.)
Thailand is the perfect place for some, and for others its a hell with too much freedom and not enough regulation. i am not yet 40, but i will be happy if i am allowed to live out my days in LOS.

so many conspiracies here for every death. look at the pictures. it doesn't look like murder. it looks like he tied the hose to the lower rail, tossed the other end over the top rail, tied off his neck and sat down.
there's many easier ways to kill someone in LOS than forcing him up the stairs of a 32-story building. they'd just stab him and leave him in the street. robbery of a farang gets the same police treatment as farang suicide. i haven't heard of any recent attacks, stabbings or murders of farangs being solved or prosecuted.
props to the rescue workers and police who had to climb 32-stories and carry that guy back down. 3 days baking in the Thailand sun must not have been pleasant.

since this thread is still rolling i'll drop my 2 cents.
i smile at everyone all the time, even if they aren't. some of the younger guys in the village give me dirty looks. not sure why.
the only one in the village that truly hates me is the mother of a girl who married a farang and took off to Australia - and didn't send any money home. the mom is bitter and talks bad about farangs all the time. she verbally abused my mother-in-law for years for allowing her daughter (my wife) to marry a farang. then i built the biggest house in the closest 3 villages, making my mother-in-law the top dog and envy of all her friends.
the lady always drives down our street on her scooter every day, even tho its out of the way from her house, and she never smiled at me in the year we've owned the house. last week i did get a smile out of her, but i think it was an accident. maybe a bug hit her face.
of course, i always smile. why wouldn't i? this is easy life and i am sabai mak mak (or whatever they say lol)

as many people pointed out, these numbers are most likely wrong.
1 in every 65 Thais do not have HIV/AIDS.
what these geniuses probably meant is that 1 million cases have been reported - over the lifetime of record-keeping.

1. the gold could have been distinguishable and hard to sell. like statues?
2. the gold dealer should have had an armed guard. he is too comfortable and doesnt know his country very well.
3. i wanted to hire that driver but now i think he'll be too rich.

people are so impatient.

its a good solution to control soi dogs, since Thailand has never heard of animal control.
stealing owned pets is criminal tho, in any country. at the very least its property theft.

If i worked at the immigration people like him would not be able to enter the country.

read my reply and what i replied to. it was about fire safety. western buildings have water access on all floors.
So, with no working knowledge of how this fire started, how it is being managed, or what the final toll is...your conclusion is that "Thai Bad" - "Farang Good""Over ten fire engines rushed to the scene but it was difficult for firemen to reach the seventh floor with the hoses and the fire ladder was difficult to operate at the area had many power cables."
now they might realize why those pesky farangs have such strict fire codes in their high rises.
good luck all - getting out and recovering the damage.
Like you , I hope no one is injured, and the damage is minor. Hopefully, the offices are vacant on Saturday.
Really, the Farang do not have fires? Really? Wish I knew that, since I lost two dear friends in one...in the USA.
but hey Richard, i am glad you are here to be the TV police and put us all in our place.

42 years for a 50-yo mother. long sentence but appropriate. hopefully she will come to terms with her bad karma so she can face the hell she'll be in during the next life. its going to be quite a few centuries for her to make up for that one. you would think a Thai mother could see the wrong in it.
as for the farang, yea, that's pretty bad to be banging children. he'll only spend 5 years in a Thai klink, which should be enough time to get quite a lot of objects stuffed up his arse.

another nail in the Phuket coffin
Yes but just how many do to you think it will actually take before the corpse gets buried?? Seems an "ENDLESS" number to me....
there is only 1 way to make Thailand safer for farang holiday visitors. that is for embassies and foreign press to start a hard campaign against the country.
the place wont ever change because it still hits its tourist numbers. no matter what crazy thing happens - riots, floods, tourist scams, murder, deadly roads - millions keep coming to the beaches every year. so why should the police or govt care? a farang had problems? so what. in a week they will be back to their royal life at home..

apparently the sensei convinced these kids they were invincible. irresponsible leadership. if you want to see if you are invincible, enlist in the army.

This is NOT a crackdown to keep legit fathers from getting visas to stay in thailand to support their children but rather to stop non-legit fathers that are using the name on the birth cert (not recognized in thai court) as the evidence that they are the true father. As it's been stated many times before, ANYONE can have their name submitted to be the "father" on the birth cert when it is first registered and no proof is required by the city office to put said name on the birth cert. That is always been why the Thai courts don't recognize the birth cert on it's own but will accept it if you are married or do marry the Mother of the child.
ya thats good man. thanks for your efforts in this thread. a lot of clarifying posts. it seems like this is just another drama starter by ThaiVisa due to a misleading title..

i just re-read this is an embassy visa issuance rule. any confirmation from immigration in Thailand?
