Coffee Cartel sells a wide range of roasted arabica beans. Chang Rai area beans. Very professional in their roasting. Roasted to order (do 1kg and up) so it's always fresh. Have their office in Nonthaburi
Can you advise where to get that? Sounds very interesting....

Instant coffee (together with processed cheese) is the devil's work.
I second that!

For Koh Samet: Just walk from the pier to the beach (about 5 mintues) and then turn left into the temple. Give some ahhs and ohhhhss to add a bit of clandestine behaviour. Then make your way to the beach and...voila...not park fees paid....

aahh.....it was about cats
...else I might have volunteered...

How do you leave at Samutprakarn? Own transport? Then go on Bang-Na Trad Highway and take the elevated road as soon as you can. The new link-up with the expressway going to the port is great. Switch then to the Ram-Inthra Highway and switch again to Rama 9 Highway.
Otherwise, go to Onnut BTS station, then take a taxi. Enter Ram-Inthra Highway at Soi 50 just around the corner from the BTS Station, past the Lotus car park entrance. Then the same routing as above: Rama 9 highway, Dindaeng and there you go.

What about that: Install a long garden hose on your roof top and pump the water out of the cistern through it. A friend of mine does that and the water gets really hot! The advanced version would be an isolated storage tank combined with the hose. Then an aquarium pump to circulate the water slowly through the hose and another pump for the shower.
Be wary of heating water up to a point that its warm but not hot. That can make a fertile bacterial breeding ground.

valid point. The water gets actually very hot with the isolated tank. In case of doubt, add a colloidal silver device to the tank and you get rid of any sort of bacteria in no time.

Can I join your band? I'm a singer. I have a tape here
Hey, your musical abilities are even worse than mine, so I suggest we should resort to punk rock. Never mind the Glaukas, here's The Sex Pistoleros!

thaibebop you bring anything you want to the party...I will be carrying my spores...
Raro you are very welcome to the band...
...are you guys THAT bad that you allow me to join?

Does anyone know how many bottles of wine I can bring duty-free to Thailand, and what the taxes are if I exceed this limit? I've tried googling and it looks like I can bring in 1L of alcohol duty-free, but I can't find anything on taxation rates.
I'm looking to bring in around 4 bottles for personal use/as gifts - because decent Australian wines seem to be hard to find and ridiculously overpriced in BKK! Will I run into any problems with 4 bottles? And where do I go at Don Muang to pay the taxes? I've never done this before!
Thanks guys!
If you want to bring them in officially, walk through the "red channel" at the airport and make a customs declaration. Duties are high, that's why the price of wine in Thailand appears overpriced. Bring in five bottles and you might get a duty exemption

TOT better? interesting. I have in Ban Chang, Rayong, ADSL 128 KB with TT&T. Then the flyer from TOT came in and they announced very competitve prices. I thought of giving it a try and changed to TOT 512 KB service. It was actually slower with what I had before and switched back just three days later.

Indeed excellent advises in here! As for the g/f involved in the bar, I'd like to extend this to any kind of business you're planning to pursue: Keep them away from it as far as you can!
Many years back, I thought it was a brilliant idea having my g/f doing the secretary job. Came home one day from a sales call and found new staff in the office that she just hired. And so on and so on...finally the relationship broke up and the comapny almost went bankrupt.
As for the 56k: Yes, you can live on that but not on the sunny side of life.

I've got the VTec. And right...up to some 4,000 rpm it behaves rather "normal", but beyond that it has a lot of bite. Much appreciated upon overtaking or other maneuovers where good accelaration is needed. Overdoing it will be punished with a highly increased fuel bill. Usually I drive the car below 8 liters per 100 km, cruising at 120 to 1400 km/h. But a couple of weeks ago I did the east bypass of Khao Yai (Highway 304) in less than 40 minutes...that was 12 liters per 100 km.

Are you still looking for a bad guitarist with a loud amp? I could fit in that slot...

I'd say it applies to each and every U-Turn, highway entry or exit...whenever some car has to get in or out of a flowing traffic. Thais in general (exceptions apply...) do not understand the concept of a slow down lane to exit a high way (slowing down on the main road instead), using the accelaration lane for joining a highway (going at slow pace to the end of that lane, being there stuck forever) or using the maximum available lanes for a U-Turn, some even topping it with some reverse gear action...

"who are you using"...? I usually use myself reading newsgroups...

ok...done my homework and read in the internet about CVT technology. Well, might be as Plus mentioned. In theory the engine revs should stay constant, as the computer adjusts that V-Belt. In real life, however, it is done in steps and this I interpreted as a gear change (which it after all is...).
So the 7-gear paddle shift is nothing else but predefined transmission ratios of the belt? That could explain the 500 rev shift as by telling the car upon pressing the manual button to get ready for some more sportive driving. The tiny Jazz engine gets its power by revs only....torque is somewhat close to zero...

raro - Does your church have air conditioning?
If your donation is substantial enough, we might buy one. So far we have service every Saturday around 11 pm at Pattaya Soi 2.

What if we called them crackups, then it would be more like a party.
hmmm...sounds a bit like hick-up....thinking about it...well....why not...

not quite. According to Honda, youuse the exactly same gears in automatic mode as in manual mode. Else you would need two gear boxes. However, if you drive at a constant speed and press the manual button, the revs go up by approx. 500 instantly.
please excuse my ignorance here, but isnt the point of a CVT gearbox to be able to select an infinite (?) number of gear ratios. isn't that why its called "continuously variable transmission".
so wouldnt locking 7 arbitrary gear ratios to give u a feel of a manual transmission negate the efficiency you were benefitting from in CVT mode?
sorry if i'm way off mark.
edit - typos
well...it is not "continuously variable transmission" for sure. After a bit of practice with your right foot you can switch between the gears also in auto mode. It has a difference of approx. 500 revs between the different gears at any given speed and you can figure out after a while in which gear you are. I t appears as it has seven gears, just like the manual mode. But once you switch to the manual mode, the revs go up by 500 without a noteable gear change. The Pattaya Honda chief engineer - as mentioned before - explained to me that the revs do not go up and that it is all in my imagination. Even when he was sitting in the back seat, watching the instruments.
Not that this causes me sleepless nights, but if someone can come up with a physical explanation...

I'm founder, Highpriest and so far only member of the First Church of Hedonism. The church that allows everything but praying. Further memberships can be granted upon application and substantial donations to my church. PM me for my bank a/c!

Funny it is: Once you switch into the manual mode, the revs go up by about 500 rpm at the same speed. I asked Honda what it is about and they simply denied the fact. I took the manager and the chief engineer for a ride and they were still denying what was plain to see...
Makes you wonder about their service. Another poster mentioned that he was not satisfied with Honda's service. I wonder if there is a defect either in the design or with your particular vehicle.
That was possibly me and I say it again....avoid the shop in Pattaya. The shop in Rayong ain't much better either. Brought the car there for the 50k inspection and they didn't notice that the bearings of the rear wheels were worn out. I found out after 51k...as far as I remember they should last a little longer anyways...but under warranty, who cares!

I'm definitely no expert but from what i've read about the CVT in the Jazz/City, is it possible your engine is having to rev harder in 7-speed mode because your automatic is no longer able to select the optimum gear ratio for that particular speed?
just a guess.

Just flew Lufthansa economy class to Germany. The most expensive and worst flight I ever had, never been squeezed that much before, not even on 1-2-Go. Couldn't sit straight even when the back rests were up in landing position. Staff was friendly, though and food ok, but the seats...never again!
