  1. Depends where you live and where you plan on riding it. Outside of BKK and the main tourist towns you'll be OK as it is, perhaps the odd small fine now and then if you are unlucky so you just have to decide whether the extra 100k or so for the greenbook will be worth it.

I kinda agree with skyblue. With the caveat that things are changing and that might not always be the case. If its cheap enough ok. But you can buy many fully legal bikes now.

Even IF things do change the maximum fine will be 2000baht according to the Govt minister who was interviewed recently, so with most imported bikes with green books being between 100-300k more expensive than bikes without green books buyers will need to decide for themselves.

Do you have any contact details for that minister as I knew a few guys who want to ask him why their bike was confiscated instead of getting away with a 2000 Baht fine.

Sorry, I seem to have misplaced his number but his name is Chatchart Sithipan and he is the deputy transport minister. Your friends who had their bikes taken by the police (almost 4million baht worth you said, if they paid almost 2million each for a bike without a green book they were massively ripped off!) are either very stupid or very rich! If they did nothing about it then they are stupid and if they didn't care then they must be too rich to care! If you have invoice papers & the 3% excise tax has been paid then it can't be confiscated and if some greedy BIB does take it then you can get it back quite easily!

  3. He is innocent. There was a full investigation in 1999 and they didn't found any wrongdoings.

    Acquitted - yes.

    Innocent - no.

How the hell do you know? Got some inside info or something? Or just spouting your prejudices?

Read the first page of this PDF from 2002-03-02, it starts with

"AS MURDER investigations go, the killing of Suvichai Rodwimud seemed quite

straightforward. The unfortunate police sergeant-major was shot dead in full view

of dozens of revellers at Club Twenty, a Bangkok nightspot. Although the bar is

normally dimly lit, the manager, according to most accounts, had turned up the lights

just before the shooting. That gave patrons a chance to see Duangchalerm Yubamrung,

an officer in the Thai military supreme command, having a furious row

with Mr Suvichai . Allegedly he then drew a gun and shot him in the head. The police

say they have plenty of witnesses."

  4. I bought a laptop a year ago and the Macafee antivirus that came with it expires this week so I uninstalled it and downloaded AVG. But after I downloaded the AVG antivirus my computer started having problems. I used Revo uninstaller which normally finds all hidden files but sneaky Macafee must have stashed some somewhere well out the way.

Nothing would open and I couldn't open the system restore but I eventually managed to uninstall AVG. then tried again with Avast and the same thing happened. I finally opened the system restore by doing it in safe mode which has allowed me to uninstall Avast and it is working again now but I obviously don't have an antivirus now as don't want the same thing to happen again.

Any idea how I can remove all trace of the Macafee antivirus so I can install one without any issues?

    Thanks in advance

  5. hey, that shot of the Flying Pie is slightly disturbing. Its like some sort of Alien Invasion .

as for the other forum thing, there's some interesting local info on there but its still quiet like our little forum.

hey, why don't whats left of us try to get along. Its good to make fun of each other occasionally but I'm sure we'd all miss each other if a dummy was spat permanently wink.png

Wise words Jubby, seems a lot of people have stopped posting on our little CR forum already though, I wonder why that is?

But you are right, would be a shame if anyone else quit so lets all behave ourselves and play nicely :D

  6. If it's the one I'm thinking of they do seem to be a bit selective in who they let in.

Invitation only Stu, ours were lost in the post.... cool.pnglaugh.png

Hey Sceau, actually I wasn't completely honest, I didn't try and join as TV is enough for me. But I did hear that at least one notoriously annoying resident is barred and as I've met you I'm pretty sure it isn't you ;)

  7. No to worry Dindong, it's the thought that counts! I think I may have seen the same pie you did and managed to get a shot. I hoped to include my beautiful house in the picture too but the pie was too high, maybe next time but whatever you do please don't say you don't like my house or I'll spit my dummy out, positive comments only laugh.png

Actually Jubby I'm a bit depressed myself today as well (definitely not due to alcohol though), I just tried to join another local forum so I could improve the lives of the disgruntled and envious members there too but it seems I'm barred from joining!!!

  8. no opinions, no responses. Oh well, (collective yawn).

Sorry maidu, I tried to promote your post but as usual somebody tried to make it about me.coffee1.gif

Just having a laugh. Lighten up. Its not all about you. you did give out the Ammo.

And I did detect an Hint of Paranoia in your post.

You'd think he'd thank you Jubby, after all he wants every post to be about him! Or is that only if people worship him, agree with everything he says and massages his ego?!

Reason for edit...Envy and pity aren't the same thing.

  9. If only there was a Smiley to depict the Hysterics I am having . Thanks for making my day clap2.gif

Jubby, you say the sweetest things! I know you aren't a big pie fan but if you happen to see a pie in the sky please take a snap and post here for all to enjoy. Obviously you'll need to walk around with your nose in the air instead of your eyes glued to the floor hunting for dropped baht coins and trying not to step in something nasty but don't let that stop you wink.png

yes, you say the sweetest things too biggrin.png ........ If only I had studied more, spent more time in halls of Academia , or worked in a bank or something, and played the stock market rather than being Pond Life that I am wink.png

not hunting for dropped baht coins today though, but I've got my eyes firmly glued to the floor looking for my best Bahco pruning Saw that I've lost this morning biggrin.png

We should get a room

If you find that saw your looking for make sure you keep it close, someone once told me there's a (potential) serial killer that lives out your way!

  11. Everyone loves pie and, judging by the size of some the farang I see while searching for my next best friend at the mall, the local CR expat community are no different. And as there are a few folk who are big fans of the lovely sky we have here in The Rai I thought I'd kill two Somchai with one stone.

While out on the Shrek today lording it over those less fortunate than myself, I looked up and was treated to a gift from buddha, a pie in the sky! I quickly took out my wife's Iphone 6 I'd borrowed and snapped away, one of my amazing pics is below, I hope you like it!

Please feel free to post your own pics of any pie in the sky you see while out and about, in fact any sweet or savoury snack would be worthy of a pic. But don't worry if you don't have a camera handy when a pie/cake/cookie is spotted, I'll update this thread every now and then so you don't miss anything.

  12. Hi maidu - and all joghurt enthusiasts in Chiang Rai,

have you ever tried to produce your own joghurt? It's really simple.

Fill two tablespoons of your favourite joghurt in a glass, add normal milk (cold/lukewarm - mai pen rai) and stir it. Then cover the glass, put it on a plate with some water (against the ants) and let it rest in your kitchen for 24, 36 or more hours (it depends on the night temperature). Now put the glass in the refrigerator as long as you want and you will have a tasty joghurt. - You can repeat this procedure to infinity. Good luck!

Isn't that just yoghurt mixed with milk?

  13. If you have a Thai DL you can often get entry into places that have dual pricing (one cheaper price for Thai, more expensive for foreigner) and pay the same as a Thai national would instead of the inflated 'farang' price. National parks and some Zoos are some examples of where there is usually dual pricing.

  14. Personally I can live with some noise but what I really want is better/best ventilation

possible. Sorry to tag on but would like to hear if anyone has looked at this as their

primary requirement ( 2nd to safety of course ) in buying a helmet here.

I have, I wanted a well ventilated helmet that was also DOT approved and the best one I could find was a GMAX GM68 which I ordered from America, I was lucky and didn't get hit for any taxes so was about 4,500baht inc shipping. Loads of vents so lots of airflow but not excessively noisy. Think you'll have trouble finding one in Thailand though.
