  1. My family lives on Koh Tao. We have been experiencing some kind of bite, which resembles a mosquito bite, but has a very sharp pain and itch, as if there were a piece of glass, or stinger left in the bite. The bite lasts for weeks or even months, itching the whole time, and leaves scars, especially on my dark skinned girlfriend. My Burmese friend said it was from the shower water, but I can see nothing in it, and have treated the water with alum, but still get new bites. We have found an occasional little bug in our beds, that resembles an ant, but with an extra body segment, so it is NOT an ant, sort of earwig like, but NOT an earwig... I think this could be the culprit, but not sure. Any ideas on exactly what is causing this, and perhaps what to do to avoid and/or treat a bite is greatly appreciated! Lincoln

  2. 62 million baht invested in 19000 businesses, that is only 3150bt each business. Figures dont sound right to me.

That's the first thing I thought, the original article was obviously written by some form of moron. Complete lack of basic fact checking and in this case intelligence.

That figure must be the declared capital value of the Co.'s, the actual amount of REAL money invested is many, many times higher...

  3. I have been using the same "lawyer" for years, but he has failed me... does anyone have a really good, get-the-job-done kind of lawyer/accountant type person for general small business and personal visa stuff. I don't mind paying a bit more than average, but I require great customer service. I live on Koh Tao. ANY help is greatly appreciated!!! -Lincoln post-6106-1212564237_thumb.jpg

  4. I have been on Koh Tao for nearly five years now, and the internet speed here has never been over 800 KBPS, and averages closer to 500KBPS (That's K, NOT Mbps!), it is too slow for streaming video, even with my own ADSL, and even web surfing is barely worth it. Can anyone suggest a cure, or perhaps an e-mail address or phone number to complain to (as if that would help!)... The rest of the world is running at multiples to what Thailand is doing, at this rate, Thailand will remain a "developing nation" forever! Thank you for allowing me to vent :o

  5. I have been living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend for four years. We were married in a village ceremony, but not "legaly" at an embassy over a year ago. I own a Thai company, and a big house in Thailand (and a couple more in the U.S.), my girlfriend/wife is listed as a minor shareholder in my Co.. She has a college education, a good income from her personal (not a registered Co.) property manegement company in Thailand, and no desire to live anywhere but Thailand. I want to take her to California to meet my family (the ones who have not been to Thailand already), and to have her help while I sort out some business stuff for a few months. Can anyone tell us what we should and should NOT do when we go to the consulate office??? We really apreciate any help!!!

  6. Is anyone else having problems with ToT's ADSL this weekend? I'm in Korat and it has been down almost all weekend, except for an hour or two here and there. I called ToT and they said ADSL is down all over Thailand...

1000 Baht per month for unreliable, high speed (?) :o (yeah, high speed alright. It measures 800-900 Kbps on the speed test, but just try downloading large files or God forbid an NHL game on Google Video...10-12 HOURS later) internet access.

    T.I.T. I guess...

I live on Koh Tao, where the TOT internet speed is supposed to be the same 1mbps, but I rarely see speeds of over 300 kbps... I have called them three times a week for months, each time they say there technition will fix the problem, but it never happens. Now I am asking for a reduction in the price I pay, even to lower the package from gold to Silver to pay less each moth for the same service, but they seem to be stonewalling me there too... has anyone had any luck with motivating this shiite Co. (TOT) to do anything??? It makes me feel sorry for Thailand that the rest of the world is learning and growing, while ToT holds back so much potential.

  7. I am tired of tipping chemicals into my swimming pool and want to change to an ionization system

I have been offered a great deal on Water Ionizers if I order three systems.

Anyone here about to build a pool or want to install a copper/silver/zinc ionizer at a greatly reduced price.

I am building a pool now, a big 105,000 lt., what model, price, time-line for delivery, etc... ????

    Thanks... Lincoln 0860952735 <snip>

  8. I am not sure about glass blowing per se, but I am currently building a public art studio on Koh Tao. The studio will have

Ceramics, potter's wheels, metal working, wood woorking, and possibly some glass slumping equipment, as well as

casting, like face casts, and jewelery kits, and painting as well, all in an amazingly beautiful setting, and for 600tb for a half

day, or 1000tb for the whole day. If it is art in general you are interested in, I hope you will come visit when it is complete

in a few months! Lincoln... <snip>

  9. Ummm, no. I live on Koh Tao, and there are not "hundreds" of stranded tourists, maybe a couple dozen. The storm went through last night, but was nothing to write home about, I saw that one big tree branch had fallen on a roof, otherwise only coconut palm leaves everywhere. No damage to structures, even on the waters edge. I can see the waves from a high vantage point, and they are rough, but certainly not more than any other windy day around here. I watched the news, and while the announcer was hyping it up, the pictures clearly showed people standing around with umbrellas in hand, showing that the situation was not so drastic. It's my bet that the ferries will be running from the main land again tomorrow, or the next day.
