  1. Ummmmmm, certainly not. I truly want to help my wife get her foot in the bakung door. I do however enjoy the aforementioned, but imbibing in Thailand, why NEVER, that's a crime!!!!555. Am I allowed to self promote here? If so how? She's an awesome baker it's just such a niche market here and we can't seem to figure out a plausible advertising scheme-meaning free LOL. As to your response, do I know you??

  2. Please excuse my netiquette-this is my first post. I've read so many people complaining about the lack of quality baked goods here in BKK. I'm not sure if it's allowed, but my wife has started a small bakery and her cakes and pastries are the real deal. She uses imported ingredients when necessarry, and incorporates the vast fruits available to us here in Thailand. She bakes nearly everything but, in my opinion, her "banoffee" cake and her carrot cake are TO DIE FOR!!! Please excuse me if I've broken some rule posting this, or if I've posted it in the wrong place-I'm a newbie. Anyway, anyone interested is welcome to pm me (whatever that is) and I can shoot you the menu. This isn't really about making money, my beautiful wife is a professional homemaker, and just wants to dip her toes in professional baking.....it really is that good......money back guarantee!!!! Now try finding that anywhere else in this city!!!!

  3. Why is anyone responding to this post? It's obviously a poor attempt at propagandizing Samui. Tsunamis are a function of under water earthquakes. Even Chicago-no where near the sea- is, in theory, susceptible to an event. And, Samui just plain sucks unless you are between the ages of 18 and 22, or if you are absolutely loaded with cash. Loads of white women in I'll-fitting bathing suits, no thank you

  4. House By The Pond is AWESOME. Located on Sukhumvit soi 22, sub soi sai nam thip 2. It's right in your price range and just a fantastic little secret. No, I don't work for them 555..... 10 minute walk to Emporium and BTS Prom Phong-check it out. Ask for "Noi", she'll hook you up

  5. The good news is he definitely can get a job here in Bangkok. Unfortunately the pay will be VERY LOW, and, as other posters have mentioned, the visa situation is precarious at best. Teaching with just a TEFL cert. is simply not financially sustainable. At 27 his best bet is to enroll in a university and at least complete the bachelors degree. Once he has done this he can either get a USA teacher's certification (any state is fine), or the UK equivalent. I have been here for 5 or so years and was a teacher in the usa public system (certified Language Arts, SPED) before moving to Thailand. I work for an international school in BKK (mid range)and 90-100k baht per month is a normal salary for a fully credentialed teacher at a mid - high range intl school in BKK. That's roughly 3200 USD per month- slightly less than a junior teacher in the states. All of this can be done on-line here in BKK through The College of New Jersey (their may be others but this is the only college that I know for sure where the entire process can be completed from BKK.) hope this helps

  6. I have been getting medical clearance certificates in Bangkok for the past 6 years. In order to fully comply with the requisite tests one would indeed need to have blood or urine tested. Fluids, however, are rarely taken. If you go to Bumrungrad or Samitivej they will give you the full test battery to stay within the perameters of the law. Smaller clinics and hospitals are glad to tap your knee, look in your ear, call you fat, and accept the 100-200 baht for the "test."

  7. Yes, women and men should look contextually appropriate for their environment in order to encourage better service, fewer stares, and a good rep for their country etc...... This is where I quibble with other posters; those people donning beachware in BKK DO think they are at the beach. BKK is a short stop on what is, otherwise, a predominantly 'beach' vacation. Most everyone on this site are long term residents; yes WE should dress appropriately to prpogate a better reputation as the sort of people that respect the opinon's of the residents of our host country.

  8. It never ceases to amaze me the ridiculous lengths people will go to cut off parts of their body for religion based on zero evidence a God exists, why not just chop the bleeding lot off.

Religion the bane of society IMO

    Truer words rarely spoken
  9. I was at the peak of Doi Inchanon on December 29 and I was frozen! I know there is a vast difference between summer and winter, however, I imagine it's much cooler there than most of the rest of the country. We saw some guesthouses on the way up......they looked ok from the road.
