Thanks for the responses guys.
Since I'd be moving to a new province I'd have to fill out the T.M 48 at the new location before doing a 90 day report at the new location.
I reckon that if the online reporting actually works for me that I could just do it online without formally changing addresses. In the past I was successfully able to do an online report once but the next time after 5 hours of frustration just got on a baht bus to Jomtien.
What I am wondering is if I file a T.M 48 at Krabi Immigration, can I then just go to another counter and do the 90 day report the same day? Or the next day as one night at a guesthouse might be cheaper than transportation costs? What 'd like to avoid is paying for lodging and not even being able to do the report the following day.

Is there a time lag before submitting the Change of Address form and being able to do a 90 day report? Perhaps it takes a while for the Change of Address to get updated in the system before the 90 Day Report. This would not be an issue for me if the online reporting works. My 90 report will be due soon after the date I plan to be arriving at my new address.
I'm especially interested in how Krabi Immigration handles this.
My 90 day report will be due in November. Ideally, I could take the ferry from Koh Lanta arriving in Krabi town at 10 AM, get by business handled and return to Koh Lanta on a 3:30 PM ferry from Ao Nang.

I will be returning to Thailand on September 2nd.
I will be renewing my 1 year Extension of Stay approx September 15th.
Will my first 90 Day Report be 90 days from September 2nd or 90 days from September 15th?
Note: The reason I want to know now is I will be traveling around Thailand when my 90 Report is due and I can't depend on the online system working so I'm trying to sort out my travel plans now.

I entered the Philippines with a 30 day stamp at the airport. Then I got a 29 day extension.
It says valid until 21 June 2016. I assume this means I can fly out on June 21st (notJune 20th).
June 21st would be my 59th day if the day I entered was Day 0 (not Day 1).
Just want to double-check that this is the way it works in the Philippines before I book my flight?
-
Thanks Joe,
Does anyone know the mechanics of getting the re-entry at Don Muang? Can I get it before check in or only as I'm getting stamped out?
If something went wrong, I wouldn't want to start the process of getting the retirement visa from scratch.
I don't want to throw 1800 baht down the toilet but if it's quite simple to get at the airport then I'd like to do it that way.
-
I have what's commonly referred to as a retirement visa.
I'll be leaving Thailand and then in a few months returning for a few hours or perhaps a day and then leaving the country again probably by way of Don Muang.
Can I get 2 re-entry permits at the same at Jomtien immigration?
This would cost me 2000 baht rather than spending 3900 for a multiple re-entry permit.

A friend of mine is arriving on January 1st and departing on March 17th.
He got a Non-Immigrant O Visa which is good for 90 days.
He travels to Thailand once a year every year and generally stays slightly more than 3 months. He was thinking it might be to his advantage to get a 1 Year Extension of Stay. It appears the cost for this would be 1900 baht a year plus he would have to pay 1000 baht a year for a re-entry permit.
Questions:
If he arrives on January 1st what's the first day that he can apply for a 1 Year Extension of Stay?
For this first extension of stay he only needs money in the bank for 2 months, right?

Do songtheaws run along Talad Mai Road and if so what's the price for a short trip?
Asking to determine if I should book a hotel very close to the bus station. Thanks!

I thought it'd be easy to buy a bicycle cable lock, and maybe it is, but so far I'm striking out.
Tried some bike repair shops, Tuesday-Friday market, and a store in the basement of Tuk Com.
I was thiking maybe Big C?
Anyone know where I can buy one one near a baht bus route?
Thanks!

giddyup, websites and directions to amphur office would be very much appreciated. My apologies if this info is already on the board.
Thanks.
Amphur Office is on Sukhumvit road after the Bangkok Pattaya hospital, on the same side going towards Bangkok. Will forms can be found and downloaded from the internet.
Anyone know approx how far past Bangkok Pattaya Hospital?

What time does the ferry dock?
First off, thanks to everybody who replied to this thread.
Ferry docks at 7:30 P.M.
if I'm going to Lamai, I suppose a counter-clockwise songtheaw is best? How would i communicate that?
However, my first choice would be a mini-van which sounds like at night will be more or less the same price as the songtheaw. Is there an offical ticket booth/table with fixed prices for the vans or is it negotiable as with the songtheaws? I suppose it will be obvious where I find the vans. If not, please let me know.
Thanks!

It depends on which type of service you use.... and cost is different to which you use ...
Taxi is going to be the most expensive, but it should take you directly to where you want to go... without dropping off other people en-route...
Songtau, may get you close to where you want, but not necessarily "door to door" service, if the resort is off the main route...
Not sure if Seatran, offers Mini bus service from Nathon, but if they do as done with Lomprayah ferries, they will have mini buses headed to various parts of the island... Dropping people off as they go....
Price for that is usually reasonable but varies to high / low season.... 150 to 200 baht roughly per person...
Thanks Jimmy!
A shared minivan at 150-200 per person to my hotel would be great.
Do you know if the songtau takes the route through Lamai Beach or if it takes what I believe is called the "Bypass Road"?
When I was last in Samui around four years ago I saw red songtaus on the road through Lamai Beach.
I have all the time in the world and I know the walk from the Bypass Road to Lamai Beach is downhill but a concern is that I am arriving on the evening of April 12th.
If some are starting Songkran water play early on the evening of the 12th, I wouldn't watch my luggage, laptop, etc. to get wet.
My hotel is less than a minute from the road through Lamai Beach, not far from the boxing ring, so I would assume I would probably not get wet on that short walk but if I was walking from the Bypass Road then I proabably don't want to risk it on the 12th.

Yes, there will be all kinds of transport, and no set price, you will have bargain with them. The best option would be to get minivan taxi from ferry company or aiasia there when you arrive on a pier. They will have set prices. Do you have a lot of luggage?
Thanks for the info HD!
Probably about 40 kilos. Two bags plus a small knapsack.
So when I arrive at Nathon i can buy a shared Ferry minivan ticket or a shared AirAsia minivan ticket which I "assume" will cost about 100-200 baht to Lamai?
-
I'm going from Surat Thani Airport to Lamai.
I plan to take the bus/van to Donsak and the Seatrain ferry to Nathon.
http://www.seatranferry.com/en/services/bus.php
Upon arrival at Nathon will there be songthaews waiting at the pier and is there a standard price for farangs with luggage?
Thanks!

An American friend is coming to Thailand for 90 days. He'll try for the 90 day visa.
He said once they refused him a 90 day visa.
So am just making sure it is still a simple routine matter for a 60 day Tourist Visa to be extended for an additional 30 days in Jomtien?
My friend has no history of overstays or in and outs.
He comes here for about 3 months in the winter and is in the states for the other 9 months.

I've been using Capital One 360 (formerly known as ING) online bank for almost 10 years and have been quite pleased. All the info I need is online and their telephone support is good too.
They are having a Black Friday special where you get $100 just for opening an account.
I opened my account in the States. I am not sure if you can use a Thai address.
Capital One Special Bonus Offer
This offer expires on December 1st.

I'm estimated to graduate with a first degree and already have relevant work experience through internships and summer jobs, so my job prospects don't seem bad at all after graduation.
Then I would suggest that you get a job. Advanced degrees without work experience will not help very much in certain fields.

. I, as well as someone else here on the forum, asked where the RO was for the Pattaya area. In case anyone needs it, it is the Chonburi Area Revenue Office located on Chom Thien (Jomtien) Sai 2 Rd. apparently near the Immigration Office.
Thanks!

Why do you say November? Maybe a fixed account maturing in Nov? Maybe you will be in Thailand in Nov? A claim for a tax year must be submitted to the tax authority within three years from the last day of the year in which the excess amount was withheld.
I'll be back in Thailand in November.
So I'll get the tax letter from Krungsri for 2011, 2012,and 2013 and bring them to the tax office though no one seems to know where it is in Pattaya.
Btw, what I had been doing is reporting the net interest minus the tax to the iRS.
This year, I'll do it properly.
Guys like us in a very ow tax bracket generally don't get audited but having foreign bank accounts might increase the odds and a foreign tax credit might increase it further.
Dealing with an audit from Thailand would be a royal PIA so am glad that I asked thi question before taking the credit which TaxAct makes so easy.
Thanks again for the help!
-
No, it's not too late...you can claim 3 years back. You would have normally applied during Jan-Mar for 2013 taxes, but now there will be a late filing fee of only approx Bt200.
So in November of this year I can apply for a refund for 2011, 2012, and 2013.
I guess I'm too late for 2010?
-
First off, thanks for the input guys!
It seems doing further research that I am eligible for the Thailand refund since my only Thailand income is about 35,000 baht in interest which is way below the 150,000 exemption.
So that means I would not be able to claim the foreign tax refund on my USA taxes.
Is it too late to claim my 2013 refund?
Does anyone know where I'd go to try to claim a refund in the Pattaya area?
On a side note, someone at Krunsri told me I could open multiple accounts to avoid going over the 20,000 limit.
-
Or would I be eligible for a refund since my interest income is far less than 150K baht?
-
Thanks for the replies guys! I'm doing my taxes now, due on October 15th with the 6 month extension.
Yes, I have over 20, 000 baht interest for 2013. It's in a Krungsri account which pays higher interest than regular savings accounts but I can only make 2 withdrawals a month.
It's not a "fixed income" account. Once I hit 20,000 in interest they start taking out tax. The tax amount is in my bankbook.
I "assume" the tax withheld equals the tax due. Is this correct if I have no other Thailand income except for a very small amount of interest in other accounts.
Would I still be required to attempt to get a refund from Thailand?
If so, i guess it's too late for 2103.
The amount of tax is about $200.
I certainly wouldn't want to trigger an audit but it seems I am eligible to take the credit.

Americans are supposed to report and pay taxes on the interest earned in overseas bank accounts. And if we have more than 10K USD in overseas accounts there are additional reporting requirements.
Has anyone ever claimed the Foreign Tax Credit on their 1040 for taxes paid to Thailand on their bank interest?
My Krungsri bankbook breaks down the interest and taxes.

Thinking outside the box here, perhaps the neighbor can be bribed into good behavior. Of course there are numerous problems with this approach and am just throwing out an idea.
