  1. There are many Thai people giving time and money to help orphanages - you just need to look them up. Also my wife, who was unwell for some time, has been spoken to several times about whether she would like to sit down for a rest by small shop people (no they weren't expecting us to buy from them) and also we have been given a lift - no charge expected - by a kind family seeing us walking home. Not something I encounter anymore in Australia I am afraid. I rarely bump into really rude Thai people. I do see some pretty rude farangs unfortunately. Remember, what goes around comes around.

  2. Small Jap car - simple to fix. Corolla is the best value IMO - you know what to look for. Timing belt change is often neglected and this can be pricey to fix - get the water pump done at the same time. I have had three Corollas, a Crown and a Camry and still have an Echo (yaris). The Echo has done 420k km and is now needing it's first major expense (clutch). Otherwise the Corollas have been the best and the Camry OK but not as cheap to run - even though it is on LPG. I have also had three Suzuki's over the years - all good.

    Good luck.

  3. If you are shipping and there is a Bill of Lading (Manifest) then the shippers should supply a Certificate of Origin which they create at the same time as the BOL. Normally you would stipulate your documentary requirements. If it is a small item being posted then you may be able to get a C of O from a local shiping agent and fill it in your end and send it to them for stamping and signing. Hope this is of some help - I have to say I have only shipped from HK.

  4. The Navalai on Thanon phra Ahtit - Banglaphu is quite nice. It is next to the ferry terminal. The river path runs along the front and it has a very nice restuarant/cafe on the river. "Ad Here 13" is nearby if they like 60's-80's Blues rock and the main sights are easy to get to via ferry. Opposite are a several small but slightly upmarket cafe and ice-cream shops and a top designer leather place.. Although close to Khao San RDd it is much more Thai/farang. One of the buildings was the HQ of the resistance to the japanese invasion and the Fortres park a few meters to the north is interesting. Over the clong to the North (by footbridge) there is a very good bakery. Get them Nancy Chandlers map - available in the shop that sells postcards opposite the Navalai.

  5. I don't think we can help this year but you are going to have this problem for a long time.

We are a semi retired couple that visit Thailand regularly. A week or so in a new area for us might be interesting. I speak and read a little Thai.

We have several cats of our own and my wife was a registered cat breeder and has regular contact with vets etc as they occassionally want an opinion. We have had a cat that was diabetic and are both able to look after that side of things. Also we know that cats can go "downhill" fast so are aware of a change in their health etc. If we are able to help in the future I will let you know.
