  1. Just to report that I got the above using:

LMN Travel & Tours, No 211 Sisowath [Riverside], Phnom Penh, Cambodia. (next door to the Paddy Rice Sports bar)

    Phone (+855) 078688881.

    Email [email protected]

The Guy I spoke to (Mr Keo?) spoke very good English and did everything he promised to do, in the time that he promised, including returning all calls etc.

The passport was ready 1 hour before the time he suggested and the cost was US$50 all in. Unfortunately, he was un-able to offer a 1 day service at that time, but said that sometimes this is possible, dependent on the Embassy. I asked around and nobody was offering me a 1 day turnaround at that time.

I chose Phnom Penh, regardless of various reported problems, because I was meeting friends there, and I chose this agent because of other recommendations on Thaivisa.com.

Otherwise, what a great place - I love it!

    Regards,

    G.

  2. Hi - I'm a Brit looking to get a double entry tourist visa from Savannaket, using a company named like a famous US casino town.

Many people say that an onward flight is not needed by Immigration if you have a visa, but the visa application info on the Thai consulate website says you need an onward flight to get a tourist visa! It's not a great amount of money either way, but I don't want to waste it.

Has anyone got a double entry visa here recently, and was an onward flight needed to get the visa?

    Also are these companies reliable?

    Thanks,

    G.

  3. Hello,

I'm a British male in the following circumstances:

I'm changing jobs and have already left the company, preparing to do any sort of visa run as an emergency measure, and get more organised afterwards with a double entry or triple entry tourist visa. I'm not aware what action (if any) my recent former employer has taken.

I'd like to ask some questions, please.

Do I have to go to immigration to cancel my non-b visa, or can I just leave the country? I've heard conflicting versions about this, including refusal to board a plane with out certain 'cancellation stamps'.

Regarding getting a tourist visa, I've heard many on this forum state that onward travel proof is not required if you buy a tourist visa, yet, I also see that on the Thai Embassy (Phnom Penh) website that to buy a tourist visa they ask for proof of onward travel. What is the situation at the moment?

I was erring towards Phnom Penh but I'm told they are un-reliable and rarely issue double entry visas. Is this people's general experience?

I've seen so much information that nearly fits my circumstances but none of which exactly answers my questions, so apologies if this repeats any similar requests.

    Thanks for any help.

  4. Hi ,

I am new to the gold shops in BKK and wondered if anyone is willing to share any experiences (good or bad) with particular shops?

I've had conflicting advice from personal friends who purchase, one says 'any shop will do - they don't risk their reputations' another says 'find a trustworthy shop' (I err towards the latter...)

In particular, does anyone have any feedback regarding the shop on the corner of Suk. 49?

    Thanks.

  5. There have reports that at some work permit offices that you will not get a work permit without having an agent (they handle the unofficial fees).

Ubonjoe, That's a good question. Has anyone here actually suceeded in arranging a WP and Non-B visa here by themselves at the published govt prices and, if so, was it a straightforward process?

And regarding un-official fees, can anyone 'imagine' how much they might be?

    Best regards

    G.

  6. Many thanks for your replies.

The reason I wished to get back to quickly was for a wedding - I'd just been given some time off by my boss, unexpectedly, and therefore I had the time to see some good friends married.

Alas, not to be, as the costs were, indeed, prohibitive.

The cheapest quotes I got online at that stage were around the 60 000 baht mark - more than double the normal price and 3 times what I often pay. This was with Swissair, Finnair, Jet airways and Qatar - all about the same. Some of those flights were leaving within 2 hours of the time of quote.

If you factor in the suggested 50% addition at the counter, it would be around 90 000 baht!

I'm now looking at putting that money into airline shares instead....

    Thanks again.

  7. I don't know where I'll be yet - employer is providing accommodation. Assuming the worst and I am in the center of that <deleted>, could anyone tell me what the public transport is like to Ban Chang, Pattaya etc?

    Thanks.

thanks guys. Yeh, looking at the google map, Map Ta Phut does look a bit grim! THanks again.

You dont want to be living in Maptuphut if you can help it, Ban Chang, Sattahip Pattaya or Jomtien would be the areas to live in with Ban Chang being the shortest trip and Pattaya the longest

  8. Hi All,

I've just landed a job in Map Ta Phut for 3 or possibly 6 months. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions / comments / warnings about the area? I'm a late thirties British male into fitness and various types of music. I've also lived in Thailand before briefly so have an inkling what Thailand is about, although I've never been here before.

Any suggestions of bars / nightlife / attractions welcome. Are there any nearby decent beaches or ex-pat haunts?

    Many thanks,

    G.
