  1. Hi, all. running low on my very good Boh tea from Malaysia. Does anyone know where I can buy it or other good loose tea?

  2. If low light on idle and bright at revs replace the battery.

    If not

I think what Seedy means by checking the electrical system is:

Disconnect and reconnect any electrical connection you can find. This simple action cleans the contact. Amen to the bad ground.

I used to drive an Alfa Romeo where the whole headlight system was grounded through the chrome headlight bezel, If I drove over a really bad bump it would come loose and the lights would go out.

Find any fuses and remove and refit them.

Find the main ground connection on the frame of engine and clean it. If the main ground is on the frame there maybe a ground wire that goes from the frame to the engine. If there is no wire between frame and engine, corrosion may have built up between the engine and frame. This can be solved by adding a wire between the engine and frame.

Just in case you find a mutlimeter.

Thanks everybody. I will get downstairs in the morning and try to check the points you've brought up.

  3. Poster on here said he was going to test ride one on Sunday but no followup report.

Poster on GT-R says they are on sale in hua hin..

Not seen in the local honda on Phuket.

tryed to get one in Phuket town yesterday, but all they had was an internet picture :) 70k

I see that racks are availible for the bike, my 40 litre topbox would fit a treat.

  4. I wondered if anyone could give me some advice on why my lights are dim on my Honda 2 stroke. On start up they are bright, then go dim, then bright then... you get the idea. Honda shop can't sort it, wiring seems ok, anyone help. Cheers

  5. What the h*ll does this post have to do with Thailand? It's my understanding that posts have to have at least some tangential relationship to Thailand...and just saying a lot of Brits work or are retired and living in Thailand is not really enough.

Hopefully nobody forced you to read this thread, if they did, you should point out to them you didn't want to do so because it's not Thai related. Having said that, British ex-pats comprise a larger percentage of ex-pats in Thailand thus any change in UK government resulting from the forthcoming elections has a direct bearing on social and economic aspects in Thailand.

    Well put chiang mai

    :)

    Agreed

  6. I live in the area and I must say, for all its craziness, for all the illegal activity, for the inablity to even walk down the street occasionally, for all those things, I wouldn't live anywhere else in town.

The proximity to everything I need to live - shopping, fitness club, pubs, BTS, and yes the items I mentioned above - makes it all worthwhile.

I honestly believe living here "mutes" the thngs most people / visitors dislike about the area.

Really? Shhhh, don't tell anyone, but Wippawaddee Road, few mins from the BTS, can be in Sukumvit in 25mins, the "Train Park" just round the corner and the condos are half the price of yours, I'll bet!

  7. Lets give a Thai a manual gearbox and lets see how they cope then :D:)

Interestingly, I was on my small Honda bike, when a car in front of me tried to go over the klong, had no idea how to use a clutch, stalled, and was waved back into the traffic by a "helpful' traffic cop and continued down the road to, no doubt, find an easier place to cross... The mind boggles.

  8. I could write an entire book about this topic...but i will only add 2-3...

I know I am in Thaidland when...

Police stops me because i am a farang driving a big bike....

    Cop: "lic. pls"

    Me: "here you go sir...."

Cop:" well everything is in oder but i want you to pay me 300 baht because..ummm.your bike is black"

    Me: "how about 200?"

    Cop:" ok"

I dont have 200 bath bills, so i give him a 1000b note and he saids thank you, takes out his wallet....and gives me back 800b !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

You know you are in Thailand when you have to look 4 ways before corssing a 1 way street... :D

You know you are in Thailand when you see Fat, old nasty dudes walking around Pattaya shirtless, while girls scream "Hey, you hansome man"....... :o

  10. For those who fly, what is your travel plan? Morning or evening flight? I was advised to get the Laos visa in bkk to save time at the border, and because you can get a bus from the bus station in udon directly to Vientiane for about 200b? Which will not let u on if u dont already have the visa as they do not stop at the border, just let people off to cross the border then directly back on bus and continue to Vientiane. I need to go by 23 Jan 2009, should i book now or later?

    Any one can verify that?

Just got back from a visa run to Vientiene, all quite effortless. Flew Bkk-Vientiene on Thai, got my Laos visa at Vientiene airport, 1500baht. The new Thai embassy is not far from the old one. Quite a queue on the Monday when I applied. Usual long queue when collecting on the Tuesday, no shade so we all sweated "on the sunny side of the street."

  11. I got a double entry visa in laos on monday, there is no problem getting the visa, they hand them out to anyone, just pay 2000 baht for a double, and 1000 for a single.I dont envy anyone a trip to laos,I paid over 6000 baht inclusive to go on a mini bus from On Nut in bangkok to laos, leave sunday night, get to thai border 6 a.m monday morning. The Thai embassy was a terrible place, hundreds of people there waiting to get visas, very hot,no system in place,it was like playing rugby or american football trying to enter the embassy,1 man handing out the visas...............if you dont like chatuchak-j j market then you wont like the thai embassy in laos,i can see a hillsborough disaster happening there soon,so many people crushing each other, just to get a visa to stay in thailand. Also the people that arrange these trips everyday must be making a fortune, they take your money and offer very little in return, from a scale of 1-10 the service was a 1,very poor.good luck if your going soon, you will need it.

I will be making a first time visa run to Loas in February and am planning to fly straight to Vientiane. Has anybody done the trip by plane, also can anybody recommend good hotels at resonable cost near the new embassey, which I understand is now up and running.

  12. I'm sorry if some sort of new crackdown has affected you; at the moment we have heard of at least one school where teachers whose degrees were already verified were being asked for them *again*, and there is huge new boilerplate about what makes it legal for teachers to teach. I am merging this query with our extremely long thread on the subject, where there is much to be confused about.

To answer your question, we would need to know much more: whether the school you're working for is private or public; elementary, secondary or tertiary; were you teaching TEFL or a subject; where were you in Thailand, etc. Otherwise there's no real way to tell you why this has happened (there are too many particular rules and exceptions).

    "S"

In answer to yours, I was working in a public school in Bangkok, I have worked there for 10 years, I am afraid that it's proberbly my own stupid fault for not obtaining a TOFEL cert; at least over that period, I was teaching general English, conversation and so on, and dare I say it my school has lost someone who was dedicated, I got good results and here comes the shocker, was not in it for the big salary, having only earned 24000 baht per month. I spoke to my school again yesterday and they said only a degree in the education field is acceptable, can you clarify the minimum education level needed?

  13. I'm in a very difficult position. Having been teaching in Thailand for the last 14 years and gaining much experience having worked in 3 well known schools over this period, I returned for the new term last week only to be asked for my "degree" which I don't have. I was then fired from my job. Can anybody tell me what the new requirements are for teachers, as it's very sad I and many of my friends have all lost their jobs, because of the same problem. :o
