  1. Hello All,

I have searched the topic but only found very old post, so hopefully this isn't a duplicate.

I'm looking for a company that sells used 20' shipping containers that are still in decent shape. I've rented one for storage for 2 years @ Bht 4.000 per month and now want to buy, but they are asking Bht 80,000 for it. Seems really expensive as compared to a few years ago, but maybe I'm wrong.

Does anyone here know of any where in the greater BKK area I can check out?

Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

  2. But would he be entitled to severance under the law of the previous country that employment was based in?

Probably depends on whether he got a new contract for his employment in Thailand or just an amendment to the existing contract in which case he certainly should be entitled to severance for the full 5.5 years.

There's more to this story. To give you the full picture:

The person was an employee of a company I acquired. He had been with that company for 1,5 years, making it a total of 7 years. After I acquired the company he was active in Thailand without WP (doing non-revenue generating activities according to Thai business visa). I relocated the person here after 1,5 years in Thailand, meaning the person has been in Thailand for little over 4 years.

I will continue to do business in Thailand, and I will retain 30+ employees doing "pretty much" the same type of work. The reason I want to terminate his employment is strictly economic. Another thing that bothers me is that I told the person that I didn't want to hire him unless he was prepared to stay for at least 3 years. This person has also been a good friend, which makes things even more difficult.

In my opinion there's more to this than just the legal obligations. I feel I have a moral responsibility even though the technicalities says 2,5 years. There's no risk that this will turn ugly, but I need to know what the actual law dictates in this case, especially if I keep my business along with 30+ employees in Thailand.

The reason I'm a bit iffy is that even though this is so far being done in a nice and calm way I fear that if I offer too small severance pay he will be in position to harm my business in a serious way. On the other hand, I don't want to hand out money if I don't have too.

I can understand where your'e coming from, but maybe your making it more difficult than it needs to be. Why not pay him what is due to him by Thai law here, and come up with a reasonable severance package for the time he was not in Thailand , but working for the same company. It doesn't have to be by Thai standards, but just something to show him that the years not worked in Thailand were for not. Just thinking out loud.

  3. In carb motors HP can increase with wear. Bigger clearances reduce friction and helps a motor spin. :)

With injection stuff not sure cos it's controlled but for sure freeing stuff up makes HP.

They say an engine is at it's peak just moments before it hand-grenades !!

That's about right. Ever listen to the serge in power from a nitro burning funny car right before it disintegrates? Those engines are built so loose a mouse could run up and down the cylinders.smile.gif

  4. first of all it depends on her will, if you get it at all

Not necessarily - if she dies intestate (without leaving a will) then according to Thai law as long as you are legally married you are fully entitled to your share of her estate; if she has no legal heirs this means all of her estate, but if she has other heirs it would be less.

...... Had to have copy of my son's birth certificate, wife's death certificate, her id card, copies of my work permit, passport and I think that's about it. it's been going on now for about 4 months, .....

hedonist44, all that appears to be happening is that the car's new owner (your wife's mother) is giving/selling the car to you; without a will your wife's estate is divided between her children and her parents in equal shares, although if the children are minors and you are their parent/legal guardian then you should be administering their share (your son's share?) of her estate, not her mother/your son's grandmother.

Thanks, and that's very true, but I have not got the parental rights to my son yet, working on it.

  5. Ofcourse if she died as a result of driving the car it may not worthwile transfering ownership.

Your smart ass remark was not appreciated. Why don't you try reading all the post before you make a total ass off your self and pissing people of at the same time.

My typing is crap when my hands are shaking, Sorry.

  6. Well, my wife passed away four years ago and I have not driven her car since. I'm now in the process of having her mother getting it into my name for me. Had to have copy of my son's birth certificate, wife's death certificate, her id card, copies of my work permit, passport and I think that's about it. it's been going on now for about 4 months, but I think that's partly due to her having to go from Lopburi to the transportation office in Chonburi where the car was bought while living in Pattaya years ago.

I was told that the mother would have to sign off on it as she would be the legal owner of it as I was not legally married to my wife of 10 years. You may have a different situation and best to go to the CM land transport office to find out directly.

Now be nice to me and don't ask me to sell my bike again...tongue.gif

  7. You are not going to meet a decent Thai women unless you can speak Thai. Plus I guess I should have added you don't deserve to meet a decent Thai woman unless you can speak Thai.

    Interesting, but wrong.

I have met numerous educated women here in BKK (Thammasat, Chulalongkhorn, Kasetsart), and they have no qualms about my linguistic shortcomings.

I agree, he is wrong on this one for sure. Telling others that they are not going to meet a decent Thai woman unless you can speak Thai and don't deserve to meet one as well. But if the OP believes this nonsense and decides to live elsewhere, who am I to argue the pointbiggrin.gif

I think you may have taken kerryk a little too much at face value... I suspect what he means is that you are are unlikely to find yourself in a mutually respectful relationship with a decent Thai lady unless you are prepared to put in effort yourself.... part of this effort is learning the language.

With all due respect, I do not sit here and try to interpret what a poster is trying to say. I read what is written by him/her and form my opinion from there. Thanks for taking the time for the explanation and actually I do agree with you, it does take an effort to learn the language and culture here to show your respect to someone you expect to receive respect from in return, as I have done in the 21 years of living here. But that's not what he said and I do take a post at face value here. Thanks again.

  9. Thank you all, very interesting.

As i said i don't have a clue that's why i'm here, to learn what i can before i arrive.

It's a little hard to get my head round because pattaya seems perfect for a thailand newbie to fit in and get started, but as someone said you get the trashy girls, i'm not going to lie for some reason the thought of living in bangkok is a bit scary, but i'll have to research it more and this chaing mai place as well.

But thanks for expressing your opinions.

PLEASE, don't come to CM..! Go with your first choice and make your new home in Jomtienwink.gif

  10. The best one to use as far as I'm concerned is called Dormicum and it's generic name is Midazolam. You will need a prescription from a major hospital and you'll need to buy it from their pharmacy as well as it's no longer available from non hospital pharmacies. You might have some trouble persuading a Doctor to prescribe this for you, apparently they are cutting down on the usage of this particular drug.

I got a prescription for this about a year ago from one of the large Bangkok based private hospitals. They would only give me 5 tablets which were the blue 15mg ones so that was more than enough for both legs of the journey. Half of one of the 15mg tablets will probably be enough for most people, if that doesn't work then take another half.

The good thing about Midazolam is that it's short acting so you won't feel tired or hungover once it's worn off. Some of the other tablets like Xanax have much longer half lives and will stay in your system a lot longer.

I agree. Dormicum 15mg is good enough to get this big boy to sleep in the worst of times. I only get a prescription for 20 a month so have to use them sparingly.

  11. Try to find a hotel inside the old city. According to a reliable source it has not been flooded for over 700 years. :)

And it's not far from Night Bazzar.

Now that's funny! "According to a reliable source" before happy hour anyway:)

  12. Sorry, can't believe no hospital pharmacy has your drug of choice. Bummi? BNH? Bangkok? Samitivej? Highly unlikely.

Anyway, you sound addicted. Maybe they're doing you a favor.

There are a lot of threads on sleep on the forum. Do a search of topics: http://www.thaivisa....earch_in=forums

    And then there's Cambodia . . . .

Done all the sleep tests over the year and this is the only one I have found that didn't seem to have side effects on me! Yes, I am addicted to sleep, seems I need to do it every night, my heart medications too!

As for availability, the govt controls availability and when they do this no hospitals have until they decide to release. Trying to go to long without causes me so much stress from sleep deprevation, it stresses my heart, bloodpressure as well. I do not use this for recreation, just to sleep at night. I just think it's unfair to hold back meds that can only be obtained from Hospital, from patients that really need it! Last year this happened, and had to wait for Govt to change manufacturer, as this med can only be obtained by Hospital from Govt, luckily my Doctor knew it was comming and gave me a double dose so I could split them . Bringing back from Cambodia is a No No and I am not inclined to break the law and maybe jailed or deported over a pill!
