  1. Who really cares? I've seen homeless Thais but I've never seen anybody start a thread about them...

Most of them (the Thais as well as the Caucasians) strike me as being good-for-nothing, lazy bums.

Given the choice between working or living off of others they choose the latter.

Oh, and the counter argument that "farangs" aren't allowed to work in Thailand is a pretty lame excuse. I'm not Thai and I work here (legally).

    Feel better now ?

  2. > But I thought work permits were required to do those things even if you weren't getting paid.

No. Only the tourists themselves pretend that they're volunteering. Everyone else knows they're getting sold a package, and at a pretty penny too.

    Thanks for the response WTK.

But frankly I don't quite understand it.

Are you saying that the volunteer work that these people are doing is part of a tour package and thus exempt from the usual laws and regulations in force here?

No, I'm saying that it's all the rage these days in the tourism industry to market something as volunteering, particpating, joining; so a more active role by the tourist than the traditional passive one where they're ferried to some site where they can gawk at something and take pictures. It's more popular to get up close and personal with nature, animals, hill tribes, etc. They call this volunteering (or voluntourism), but it's really just a tour where the tourist participates a lot more. No actual meaningful work is performed, in fact running tours of this kind probably requires more people/effort to organize, and this is also reflected in the price. The voluntourists pay several hundred dollars to bathe an elephant. Then they can tell people back home they didn't spend their whole holiday on the beach, but went on a responsible trip, volunteering with the locals, etc.

For *actual* volunteering a work permit is of course required. But what the article in the OP highlights as being popular is not actual volunteering; it's immersive participation in an activity.

  3. Same thing happens to me occasionally with my text messages though AIS. It also happens with my Blackberry using BBM at times. I just write it up as too many people doing the same thing I'm doing at the time, but who knows really.

  4. I have had Blackberries for 4 years now and presently using a 9900 series. I love it and now have the Blackberry Playbook that connects via bluetooth to my 9900 so I have access to all my files, contacts, mail etc....

Great thing about it is, after I stop the connection between my phone and the playbook, nothing is saved on the playbook, meaning all my contacts, bbm and email contact and correspondence remain secure in my phone and not in the playbook.

Blackberry does not have all the thousands of apps as does Apple and the Android systems, but I have no need for all that crap personally and like the smaller screen on my tablet as it's much easier to keep with me when I am out and about.

  5. You have 4 kids, or she has 4 kids by another man?

what has that got to do with it ?

    great advice pffffftttttttttttttttttt

I would tend to put more trust in a woman that had produced 4 children that were biologically mine, than a woman who had produced 4 children by different partners, and I had only known her a year or two. Maybe mistakenly, what do you think?

i think a smart person would find out the facts first before passing judgement , the op did not post a question on should i trust my wife did he ? read the post again gonad ...

  7. post-74207-0-36651000-1334669489_thumb.jpost-74207-0-36651000-1334669489_thumb.jlam played at the saloon bar walking street for many years, entrance was just near the big tree.

as far as i know the room they used to play in has been empty ever since.

Ron Amero had the bar then and actually bought Lam his first guitar. Rest in peace Ron, "A tiger never dies"

  8. I had a great time, 4 hours of walking and playing round the moat, until I got to the farang section round tae pae gate/loi kroh... what a bunch of pis**d up ar**holes! Really, what a contrast....

Do you ever get the feeling that your wearing brown shoes and everyone else is wearing a tuxedo? I could put it more simply, but I would be banned.....

  9. That's right mock the gentleman. Only Farangs know.

As is reported. The Sendai quake had a similiar scenario. What's wrong with being prudent?

Well said. A so called Thai "expert" predicted a quake would strike in Kanchanaburi a couple of years ago, one of the least "active" places in the region, and everyone though he was out of his mind.

Then begger me sideways, it hit in Si Sawat district. Nothing too serious (3.7), but it still happened. These guys have access to top-end technology so when they speak it's prudent to listen.

Please tell us your not serious.....I would hate to think you actually give credence to one of these so called "experts".

  10. If you look at the video, he was already bleeding while he was on the other side of the gates, where no security guard is present.

On top of that, he does seem like an aggressive a-hole.

Seeing how the guy seemed to want to punch the security guard, if I were the BTS guy, I would have clubbed him in the head as well.

But, as always, the farang apologetist/"thais hate farangs" brigade will soon swarm this topic.

The assault had already occureed before the start of that video. Of course he was pissed off after that, how would you act?

    +1.

  11. You probably won't find anyone who sells them on a regular basis, but rather specialty shops that have a cowboy theme and sell a bunch of different things such as clothing, boots and so on. I got my fireplace stuff in Pak Chong and it was used. I did see a new set somewhere, but forget where it was. It was also a western theme type of place and had a lot of memorabilia as so forth. Maybe someone has more information on a place that "does" sell and has stock on hand on a regular basis.

  12. I have been happy with Brother. First one lasted for 4 years. Now I have Brother MFC-J415W http://www.brother-u...5w#.TyrT7xbJq7Y

The shop installed refillable toners to the printer and the price per print is next to nothing.

Printer have scanner, copy, (fax I'm not using) and WLAN so I just need to plug the power cable and can place the printer where ever I wish as long as it get's signal from my WLAN router. I would not go back to cable version anymore.

I'm in BKK and having a hard time finding a shop that carries this model. Can you tell me where you bought it please? Thanks !

I got mine from Phuket, small shop on bottom floor of BigC.

Google found some reference, that there is a Brother shop in third floor of Fortune tower in BKK.

  14. If they would just add new pages into your passport when needed, it would solve the problem. I just learnt recently that you guys don't have this option and it blew me away. I used to go to the US consulate in CM and get another 48 pages put in in 15 minutes for free. Now it's a bit longer and it cost $80.00. But I'm certainly not complaining now that I hear what you guys have to go though.

  15. The university is on the northern edge of Nakorn Pathom on Highway 321, the road to Kampang Saen and Supan Buri. It's a big place on the left just outside town.

Go in through the main entrance and the guard will direct you. Immigration is in a building close to the main entrance down a short drive on the left. They are on the ground floor on the left as you enter. It's very easy to find, the biggest problem (as so often) is finding somewhere to park.

Very good directions ! I went there this morning and was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Good job, thanks GD!
