  1. I am looking for the best food mock up company in Bangkok. We need someone that can make really realistic mock ups. I have tried two small companies already, one was terrible the other was so-so. I want to best! Any leads appreciated.

  2. Your accountant said he was too busy and would get back to me and then never did. Probably would not recommend him to other people if I were you. Thanks anyway for the recommendation, I will keep looking. Really hard to find a good accountant in thailand, like so much else...

  3. We have a small ice cream shop. If we sell a 200 baht gift certificate do we need to charge vat? Then when they use the gift card to buy ice cream do we need to charge it again?

I thought we would only need to charge vat on the ice cream not the gift certificate. If we charge in both it makes selling the gift cards a bad deal for us, also what if customer uses a 200 baht gift card to buy only 120 baht ice cream and we need to give them back 80 baht change, that 80 bats already had vat paid on it so we are losing again.

    Thanks!

  4. We are finishing up renovations on a house we bought and electrician has said we is going to keep the a/c power separate from the rest of the house and not connect to the safe-t cut. He said he is afraid if we connect to safe t cut then during storms powered will cut out too much. I don't know much about electricity but his statement rings of avoiding issues and working things out correctly- on the other hand I have no idea... Anyone know if this sounds right and how dangerous is it for a/c to not be connected to the safe-t cut panel?

  5. I do this a couple times a year. I recommend you try ANA. It is just one stop in Tokyo and not too long a layover. You will fly into Newark or JFK. Last I checked TG was no longer going to fly to lax direct, but would now stop first in Korea. That's the deal breaker for me considering how bad the service is on tg now and their seats are lumpy compared to other B-class seats. I loved the direct flights to NYC and put up with the direct ones to LAX, but now that they no longer have any direct flights to North America means I am done with them for now. Basically they spend a ton on advertising but are just a second rate airline .

ANA has nice new seats, 180 degrees flat and nice service. It is also one of the cheaper options in star alliance. Cheaper still will be some of the Chinese airlines but I avoid those. Some of the middle east airlines have crazy 12 hour stop overs, so check that.

  6. We are leaving this house soon and want to help out the owner by posting this here. He is a very nice guy who is always quick to help with any problems and is pretty much an ideal land lord. The house is awesome, and might be the best deal in Bangkok. This is a real house with a big yard in front and out back. There is room to park a couple cars but there is also grass and trees and flowers, including mango trees, rose apple trees and papaya trees! All this just 5-10 minute walk to the bts or you can get a motorcycle taxi just down the Soi. Also there is lots of great food around Thai and international.

The house has 3 bedrooms all with their own bathrooms plus downstairs another bathroom. Plus maid room with a bathroom too. Some furniture and a/c in master and living room included. But mostly unfurnished. Also has modern alarm system wired to whole house. House is about 15 years old I think and is not fancy, but for its awesome location and comfortable amenities I'd say it's a great deal for anyone who wants to live in a house in the middle of Bangkok. I expect house will be ready to move in middle or end June.

Any questions or interest please feel free to send me a PM

  7. In usa I have read about them connecting router to second router through the house electric wires rather than with ethernet or wireless repeater. It's a device that plugs into the power outlets. Do they have those in thailand?

    Thanks

Not seem them here but just order direct ?

Will these work with the different electric system here in thailand? If yes these seem like a great solution.

  8. First, agree Podium has some decent stuff at very good prices. Just got a really nice queen size bed for the guest room for 11,000 baht. I have one index bed that is totally falling apart after just 18 months. Index furniture in my experience has been very junky.

Ikea, the meat balls are disgusting, worse than airplane food. We bought two couches a big lounge chair and a big ottoman. First joke is that my wife and I are expected to be able to haul around huge couches by ourself. She is just barely 5 feet and a 100 pounds and I certainly can't do it by myself. Unless you are a couple of professional athletes it is impossible to buy a big item there. One of the wife's friends joined us and insisted staff couldn't help us. I said screw that (after watching wife and her friend wrestle a piece of couch for 5 minutes, I mean it was pretty funny, had to watch for a little while...) and tracked down a nice staff member who did help us load everything into two trolleys.

The lounge chair was on second level though and sales guy told us that meant it was in stock but we could only buy it the following day when it would be moved down to main floor a the warehouse. So it was there, we could see it, but couldn't buy it till the next day. We did manage to finally buy it that day as we were getting things delivered but it took some more talking and deliberating.

I would gladly pay an extra ten percent to never need to go to ikea again. I would rather have too much service than none at all. But the couches are pretty nice and very very cheap.

  9. Good luck getting a straight answer from anyone in thailand re pools- I heard it was all about the same and ended up doing half with hose and then calling in the trucks. I think if you have the time do it from your hose. I just worry about it making problems for the water pump...

  10. Thanks Gil. I believe your info matches the other info I have read online. I am just flabbergasted that none of the Thai companies I have contacted to do weekly pool maintenance know anything about adding stabilizer. Makes me want to smack my head on the wall and move back to usa!

If anyone knows of a good person or company for residential pool maintenance couple times a week that is available in the Bangkok sukhumvit (thong lor) area please send me a message.

Otherwise I think I will hire one of these joker Thai companies to do the basic maintenance and I will need to add and monitor the cyuranic acid myself. How often should I check the levels? Is there any basic rule on how many cups acid to add to raise the level a certain amount? I do worry about adding too much as I know that means needing to empty and refill. My pool is about 70-80q I think.

    Thanks for the info

  11. Good thread. One note about inverters- I have a Daikin and in my experience i need to run it at a cooler setting to equal the temp of a regular unit. In other words, if i set the my normal unit to 22 or 23 it is really cold in the room. If I want it to feel as cold in the room with the inverter i need to set it to 20 or 21.

I am renovating a house now and need about 7 units, maybe a couple built in. I am getting some quotes with really crazy high costs for the installation and for extras like extra coolant piping. Quotes are coming in from 300,000 - 450,000 baht! Does anyone know a really good a/c company that can do a good job and quote a fair price?

    Thanks!

  12. I have been in BKK for 6 years and used Chefxp, "room service" before chef xp, and food by phone as long as i have been here. Chefxp is cheaper but the service is not as good. Seeing owner talk here about banning people and being defensive rather than saying sorry and what can we do to improve shows why service is not so good at this company. I have had so many screw ups from chefxp over the years, that i really only use them if i want to order from a restaurant they only deliver for. otherwise i would rather pay the extra money to get my food delivered reliably and i know if i have a problem food by phone will resolve it. I have written emails to chefxp couple times over the years about service issues and most are ignored. Certainly never got anything free!

Owner of Chefxp should focus more on how they can improve service and spend time on that, rather than spending time being defensive on thaivisa.com - Really interesting case study of foodbyhone vs chefxp and how better service can outweigh better prices.

  13. Thanks for the reply.

I've been in this resort and is very convenient (last year).

We walked to the main road and found some shops open for daily needs

So I will go back to the airport and take the SARL City Line

Why even ask the question if you are not going to listen to posters advice and already have your own plans regardless of what local expats tell you? Giving advise to people like you is total waste of everyones time, so why ask questions here?
