  1. I use Maxnet Premium 2Mbit/1Mbit for 1090baht/month which I just got installed here on Samui. The up/down speed is ok but the ping time for European and American servers are pure bullshit. From 0,5 sec to 2 sec. As response time is crucial for my work I am now completely stuck on what to do.

I am thinking of upgrading this premium account to maybe 4Mbit/1Mbit for 2500baht/month or maybe change provider to CAT or something else.

Any suggestions are more than very welcome. Is their any point in upgrading? Will this have any effect on the ping time? Are the other (CAT, TOT etc) companies any better regarding this? If so, which company should I use and what package?

    Please help!

I use TOT 4meg package for 938 baht per month incl. vat

The speeds have been crap for a week or 2

  4. I was told , by a well respected source , that approx. 50 million baht was spent on winning the Election.

A healthy 'profit' will be expected by the victor.

So do not expect any changes for the better here on Samui.

If it is true that No5 ran a clean campaign and received only 29 votes., this illustrates the level of corruption involved.

  5. Not on Thai TV according to their listings, checked on the TRUE website and it wasn't listed either!!!

Called TRUE and they confirmed it will be ON True sport 1 (59) and Truesport 5 (63). Keep your fingers crossed there is not a repeat of the Charity shield fiasco!

    thx for reply.

do you have a link for checking thai tv listings ?

  6. CAT union postpones cutting overseas circuit

CAT Telecom labour union which earlier planned to cut the country international circuit telecommunications gateway Wednesday afternoon in support of the demonstrators demanding for the ouster of the coalition government has postponed the decision until 9am Thursday.

The CAT Telecom labour union had said it would make a decision Wednesday afternoon whether or not to cut the international circuit telecommunication or gateway. Disconnecting the gateway would affect access to the Internet and international telephone services as well as financial transactions.

Speaking to TNA, Somboon Sapsarn, president of the CAT Telecom labour union, said union members had decided to postpone the decision.

Although a full work stoppage at CAT Telecom has not begun, about 40 per cent of the agency's 5,600 employees nationwide already took a day off on Wednesday. It is expected that more would join on Thursday.

The firm's operations on Wednesday did not disrupt its services to the public because most of those who were absent were in administration.

Meanwhile, CAT deputy managing director Marut Buranasettakul told TNA that the company's labour union had no authority to cut the international circuit telecommunication gateway.

Only senior executives of the company could do it, said Mr. Marut, adding that services at the company continued normally as of now. Representatives of the labour union were invited for talks with senior executives and were told that work disruption would greatly affect public users, said Mr. Marut. (TNA)

Were the strike carried out , who of us would be affected ?

  7. I'm amazed at the sheer ignorance of so many people on here. Do any of you speak Thai? Do you understand Thai politics? Have you bothered to inform yourself about what's really going on in the Thai government or are you just spouting off bullsh*t as usual?

I work for an international company in Bangkok where most of the employees graduated from Chula and Thammasat - from middle class and wealthy families with everything going for them. A good QUARTER of my office have family members involved in the PAD demonstrations today and no, they're not getting paid to be there - they don't need the money. Surprisingly, they actually care about their country and know that Samak is just another Thaksin-like corrupt politician who will continue to shove Thailand down the path to ruin.

Next time before you rant on about things you know nothing about, maybe learn a little bit about what's going on. Attend a PAD demonstration (I've attended several), talk to Thais who are involved in this (from poor to middle class to wealthy -everyone is represented) and, if you're going to stay here long-term, maybe get off your ass and learn a bit of Thai. Then you might understand what's happening here.

Geez, sometimes it's bloody embarrassing to be farang and mixed up with such a group of freakin' ill-informed know-it-all tossers.

    Fully concur with the above.

I count myself as a Thai speaking Farang who has followed Thai politics for many years and the PAD is the first group of people who seem to be genuinely interested in cleaning up Thai politics.

Of coure Sondhi has had a rather checkered past, but now seems to be keen to improve the politics of this country.
