  1. Why not ban Songkran this year? Does the government really think people here understand the consequences when they not capable of thinking past 24 hours time frame.

You are 100% right.....there should be no wet Songkran this year . If the government feels they need to do something they could limit water to one day only and ban the use of ice. The Thai people I speak to really do not understand the gravity of the situation.

some points you need to better understand.

govenment brings in rules and laws all they time and they are just ignored so are pointless. nothing will stop a wet songkran.

songkran is very important to the economy which people survive off. tourism helps drive the economy and money needs to be spent building dams to catch abundant rain fall. not digging wells which will deplete ground water.

the point you are correct on is thais dont understand how important water conservation is. this dry season will cut it close to zero reserves.

One thing in this totally ignored is the daily waste of water to hold the salt water intrusion. What no sea gates? Just building more dams will never cure that problem. People where most of the rain falls should be able to use a large percentage of that vs YOU not I must.

  2. 2 things I see here, 1 is the taxi air at swampy, as far as I know requires the driver take the passenger in queue. What does a taxi driver do when the passenger cannot communicate. I agree the driver was completely wrong to just dump out, he should have taken to police or face a 5k fine. One possible solution is the airport queue line provide the driver with a written destination on each queue ticket.

  4. Why the hell to we need a high speed rail between China and Thailand. What about spending the billions on fixing up Thailands internal transportation probelems. Traffic congestion, Standard of buses (appalling), Road standards (also appalling), Checking of motor vehicles for drivers license and safety standard compliance. There are so many more that could be done to improve the infrastructure and transpotation services in Thailand that I would need a 100 pages to complete. Pay the police better so that they aren't compelled to take bribes just to make enough to support their family etc., etc.

It's about a railroad, not roads or traffic. Living away from Bangkok I can see a need vs more road traffic jams. And far less buses from that area. This is also likely to be partially funded by China.
  5. If it's actually real wood, I buy old english furniture polish..an oil, from Tops at the IT center in Khon Kaen. It is not stocked at normal tops supermarkets in the Robinsons or Central plaza types, something a manager said was due to fire codes.

  6. Hmmm there are a number of reasons a person over stay's in a country and not all are simply people trying one on.

So in case of illness or accident as often happens and still have the 20,000 baht fine, now they want to have a bigger crack,

    Welcome too LOS..............

I my self just forgot my 90 day check in, normally on the calendar but this time no'p, paid the fine all good,

In case of accident or illness most all hospitals report your presence to immigration, and normally not charged for overstay as the DR will provide a slip for immigration. I've even seen our local immigration go to the hospital and do 90 day, etc right there.

  7. Normally, I would agree that the Catholic Church or any Church actually doesn't do much for the World's poor. However, I believe Pope Francis is an exception. His criticism of the United State as the seat of materialistic capitalism is correct. the United States also exports this philosophy to the World including Thailand. In the United States, the gap between the top earners in the country and those on the lower end is appalling. No one cares about poor people in the United States. During the Bush and Obama administrations the number of poor have increased considerably. At least Pope Francis is condemning those actions by governments that perpetuate the wealthy at the expense of the poor. How many bankers in the United States have been indicted or gone to jail for the economic meltdown during the past. Banks provided mortgages to people knowing they could not afford them and knowing they would repossess these properties. At the same time, they were making billions though the process of bundling and by selling these loans around the World. Millions of Americans lost their homes and the banks got richer and then they were bailed out by Bush/Obama and their henchmen over bad loans. This is just one of the things the Pope has been outspoken about. I hope he gives Obama an earful but it won't matter because all American politicians are tools of the wealthy. And the strange thing is the Donald Trump, apparently popular among certain Americans, is an example of greed at its worst.

Very true about the banks giving loans to people who couldn't afford to repay, as government misuse caused that.

  8. Actually Trump could work with Congress to write and pass law defining the misused 14th amendment to end birthright citizenship, as a child of illegal immigrant parents aren't soverign to USA which lacks jurisdiction..So not a citizen. That would force SCOTUS to either overule law or let it stand. If the overruled that, then an Amendment, but as most other nations have done, no rights just for being across the line.

  9. Sure makes stupid sense. Yea let's move the terminal way out yonder. Don't ban taxes from parking anywhere, and not forced period to get in the queue to drop off or pickup. and or ban minivans from the area clogging the roads all around the area..might offend someone, just make people who may have already been on a bus a number of hours depart to another bus. Don't even think about placing the BUS terminal next to a sky or MRT station, might cut taxi use and allow traffic movement. Best of all, don't even THINK about using what's already there and make improvements, nope just blow a few billion baht.
