  1. your girlfriend is feminine, female.

Feminine, yes. female? No. Thats encoded in every cell of the body.

You could sew wings on a cat, and teach it to live solely on mice. Still would not be an owl though.

A cat is a totally different species than an owl. Since you quoted me out of context, let me restore it:

"From what you say, Svenn, your girlfriend is feminine, female. But you know what? Males and females are far more alike than most folks think. And a transgendered ex-male is about as feminine as she chooses to be."

I have three daughters, three sons, and 11 grandchildren, who are primarily animal, chordate, mammal, primate, homo sapiens sapiens. Those characteristics define them, biologically. Their gender is almost incidental, accidental, minor key. My elder daughter's degrees do not say "Bachelorette" or "Mistress." There is a tendency by some men to see women as only a vagina to penetrate, yet those ladies have titles such as "Prime Minister," "Monarch," "President," "Boss," etc.

And your daughters will never father children, nor your sons be capable of carrying them. "Gender" is encoded. Everything else is just surgery and rubbing bits together.

  2. My best mate in Thailand just found out that his girlfriend who he lives with for over four years is HIV positive and has been for four years.

He never used condoms but when he got tested he came up HIV negative.

What are the odds of this happening?

    Reasonable.

Normal, well lubricated, vaginal sex with a woman with a low viral load, with no other factors (other STD's mainly) is associated with a low risk of transmission. Change one of those factors however, and all bets are off.

  3. What we need is a realistic alternative to democracy. Thailand has an excellent chance hear to be a beacon to the world right now, by abandoning democracy and putting something better in its place.

Oh dear. Best advert against legalization of drugs I have seen in a while.

Anyway. I think Sir Winston Churchill said it best:

It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.

    Sir Winston Churchill

    British politician (1874 - 1965)

  4. i would personaly grab him by the throat pretty hard untill he coculdnt breathe than tell him

Again, if someone doesnt agree, dont bother replying.

I don't agree, but hey, I will reply anyway.

What you propose is called "assault" in many countries, and here in Thailand as well. It is a criminal offense, and potentially carries severe legal penalties.

  5. Thanks for any help/advice.

Sympathize with your position. My 2 cents (for what its worth) is you real problem lies not with the boy, but with his mother. As long as the two of you do not agree a common approach, and she STICKS by it, you are just wasting your time.

Time and time again I see Thai kids ruined by their "doting" parents (or mothers) who let them get away with anything, and then can't understand why they turn out bad.

Work on the mother. If you can't get her on board, you have to pick one of the other options.

  6. There are two types of dengue virus Dengue och Chigunkunya, which both are spread by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, hence the same mosquito that is also spreading the yellow fever.

There are four types of Dengue Fever (DF), and in Thailand they are referred to as types 1...4. The types 1, 2 and 4 are mostly affecting children between 2 och 10. These three variants are sporadic, like influenza, and usually see an outbreak in intervals of three to four years. They are all non-fatal.

The third variant can hit anyone irrespectively of age and is present in Thailand at all times, primarily in urban areas. This variant is also the most dangerous one and can, in addition to dengue fever, also cause dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), which can be fatal.

This is what Waikipedia writes about dengue fever (DF och DHF):

Mate - almost everything you write there is WRONG. Completely, utterly and dangerously.

Chikungunya is an ENTIRELY different virus. Its an alphavirus, where as dengue is a flavivirus. They are both transmitted by mosquioes (true) - but so are a hel_l of a lot of other things.

To say that dengue infections are non-fatal is hugely wrong. With appropriate treatment dengue can be controlled, but estimates suggest up to 25,000 people each year worldwide die from dengue.

Your contention that 1,2 and 4 are primarily infect childen while 3 hits anyone is similarly WRONG.

All four dengue viruses can (and do) cause the hemorrhagic form - most noticibly on a second infection (although you CAN get the hemorrhagic form on a first infection). laughably, type 3 is the one LEAST associated with the hemorrhagic form.

Infections with dengue result in a spectrum of symptoms, and the degree of severity defines whether the patient is classed as having "Dengue fever", "dengue hemorrhagic fever" or "dengue shock syndrome". They are all caused by the same four dengue viruses.

    Wikki quote is right.

  7. I love living in the boonies of Issan. BUT, no way would I consider staying here if not for my Thai wife. She is the reason that I am happy and content here. Why would I go to the trouble and expense of having all sorts of contracts made to protect my investments? I will never be able to own any property in my name so why bother? If there comes a day when she no longer wants to live with me or if I no longer want to live with her, I will pack my personal things in MY truck and head back to MY condo. YES, I know you have all heard it before but the golden rule is to NOT spend more than you can afford to walk away from. The house, land and car are all in her name while I keep a vehicle and the condo in my name. Certainly there would be a lot of hurt and financial loss involved but I wouldn't miss any meals.

Kudos Gary A. The only sensible post on the entire thread.

Many of the problems seem to stem from the simple inability of foreign residents to understand a simple concept - as a foreigner you are not allowed to own land in Thailand (although, as a caveat, I understand that the situation is slightly different for Americans married to Thai's). Everything we see on this thread is designed to, in someway circumvent this simple fact.

  8. Ah, so Steve Irwin was impaled with a barb to the heart because he ''stepped on a stingray''?

No, because (as I recall) he snorkled over the top of a stingray in shallow water. From what i recall, they believe the stingray was probably trapped between the cameraman directly in front of it, and Irwin overhead.

At some point, without pretending to be able to read the animal's mind, a stingray reacts with aggression.

say reacts defensively rather. I have dived with hundreds of stingrays, and believe me, they head away from you, not towards you.

  9. 1. It also does not usually cause diarrhea, and this is the part that is puzzling to me. If it were not for the diarrhea I would say that it is indeed most likely dengue or a related disease.

Possibly the diarrhea is unrelated, just a coincidence, especially if it has stopped. In which case my guess would be dengue, although they are right to rule out typhoid just in case.

    2. Be aware that the blood test they are talking about is probably just a platlet count (the part iof the blood involved in clotting) and that while this does decline in hemorraghic forms of the disease it may remain normal in non-hemorrghagic forms which is what we farang tend to get posisble because, unlike the Thais, we had no prior exposure in childhood.

    (snipped and my numbering)

    1. dengue can definately be associated with gastritis, including diarrhea and vomitting (one link, I can give you 10 more)

    http://www.symptoms101.com/med/archives/20...engue_fever.php

    2. The relationship between hemorrhagic and non hemorrhagic is more to do with a prior infection than infection during childhood. A western adult who gets its twice as a adult is as likely to develop a hemorrhagic form as a Thai who got it once in childhood and once in adulthood.

  10. Rayong declared dengue disaster zone

RAYONG: -- Rayong - The Rayong provincial administration announced that the province is a dengue disaster zone after 1,397 people were infected and two of them were killed this year.

What? They took them out side and shot them for being infected?

  11. What would people say if the headline read....."Airasia X May Charge Passengers By Height"

Well this one would probably say "Yeehaa" frankly. As some one who is on the small and light side, maybe I get tired of subsidising all you tall and large people.

Combined weight and luggage allowance. Up to you how you divide it up. Thats not discrimination - its just fair.

  12. the topic as posted by Skippy was about running out of air

Seemed to be a large leap right from the start. The OP stated the person was found 8 mins into a dive, on the surface - with no equipment. A strange set of circumstances to say the least. Given that we also do not know that the guy was a trained diver (thats not been stated as far as i can see) or any other circumstances such as possible max depth etc whether the equipment was recovered etc all the breast beating and posturing seems a tad premature.

  13. When I was in my second year in ABAC I was called in by my great grandmother to discuss "my future". She sat me down, while I was wearing my university uniform, and she went, "So when are you going to get into Chula?" I got so pissed. If she wasn't tiny, old, and my own great grand mother, I would have punched her in the face.

Lovely. Simply lovely. The author of this article should be ashamed (and yes, I follow that it is not "nospeakIt').

The whole thing simply reeks of jealousy. The old "I could have gone there if I had wanted". Yeah. Right.

  14. Some people just want to stick by their beliefs come what may.

The double pricing was in place BEFORE the Thai took over. I was first there just after it opened and that was the deal then. And secondly as I have said previously (on this thread) they are happy to accept evidence that you are resident or working here and give you the "local" rate.

  15. OP, just pay her off and continue your growing up process.

The thought of …18 yrs of child support and….. a chance of sitting on her butts and do nothing,

sure sounds better than a one lump sum payment?

LOL. Try asking a Thai - what would you rather have - 5 million baht today, now in your hand, or 500,000 baht per year for the next 20 years. What do you think 90% would say?

  16. yeah - and you full well know thats only half the story.

the applicable part of the article:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_conse...n_Asia#Thailand

The age of consent in Thailand is 15 (with the below caveat) as specified by article 279 of the Thai Criminal Code. The current legislation applies to all regardless of gender and/or sexual orientation, although it is a common misconception that it applies only to women.[citation needed]

However parts of the Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act which disallow any sexual contact with prostitutes under the age of 18, are widely interpreted by some local authorities to cover sexual acts classed as "obscenity for personal gratification". Also from the Penal Code Amendment Act of 1997 Section 283bis, having sex with child under 18 is a compoundable offense even with the consent of that person. The parent or the child may file charge against the other side if he or she later regrets his or her own action. This ostensibly makes the Thai unfettered age of consent 18.

  17. I am a 52 yo fitness instructer and went for a routine health check. They found my psa to be 16. After a biop the results were right side clear, left side 2 cores 5%, volume 24.6cc. Gleason 3+3, MRI and Bone scan clear, I have no symptems.

I have a younger partner and a great and active life. Do I realy need to go ahead with treatment that will stop me enjoying my life ?? I believe I will not die from PC and treatment will wreck my whole life. I would rather another 10 good years than the posibility of a bag on my hip and a limp dick plus all the treatment implications.

There is an old adage about prostate cancer : more men die with prostate cance than from prostate cancer.

However, that being said it really applies to older men, and you are fairly young, and with a fairly high PSA.

Prostate cancer is very, very variable, and can have totally different courses in different people. Some people can be diagnosed and live quite happily for 10 to 15 years with no treatment. Others die relatively quickly despite multiple treatment options.

    So my two satangs worth:

    1. educate yourself. What is the disease, what do your 'scores" mean (look up "Partin tables"), what are the possible treatment options - what are their out comes - what are their outcomes with your stage of the disease (different things).

    2. "vet" sites to makesure you are getting the best advice (if the only advice is drinking raw carrot juice for 6 months only - move on).

    3. Look for self help groups as they are the ones most in the know.

    4. Find a decent specialist doctor that you can trust and have this discussion, raising the same questions with him.

    5. get your biopsy slides re-reviewed by a diffferent pathologist - even if you have to arrange for them to be sent to US or the like.

Bottom line is -its your disease - and your life. You need to get up to speed on it.

    good luck

  18. The Ocean World pricing website is rather funny.

    http://www.siamoceanworld.co.th/visitor_in...ation/price.htm

    The thai script section :

    ผู้ใหญ่ (puu yai = adult) ๔๕๐ บาท (450 baht)

    The english language section :

    BIG BONUS PACKAGE

    Adult 850 Baht

Website does not mention anything about thai vs foreigner...so I pissed mysef about he BIG BONUS thing.I wonder who the genius promoter who came up with this beauty is...hahahaha.

Someone should email them and heckle their stupidity.

I have been twice. Both prices are displayed, one in English, one in Thai. Both times I have shown my (Thai) work ID card and got the Thai price with no problems.

There are some differences between the promotions - the higher "package" price has some extra's - can't remember off hand, but one thing i think I recall was a large coke -there may have been some promo material as well.

Ripleys was mentioned, again, thai prices are in thai script - and again no problems getting that price on display of work ID (and, I suppose display of the fact that I recognized the two price structure?). Dreamworld rangsit - same deal.

Only place I have been that absolutely will NOT give the local rate is the Rose garden -and I nearly got into a fight there as they also charged my Thai companions the tourist rate!! - I would have walked away, but as one the the group was a 6 year old excited to go see the place so I was in a bind. But will never go back there again.
