  1. As was said in another post in General Topics, all parties offer money to the electorate. But so many High and Mighty Yellow shirt lovers on here could never understand that the Yellows do this. The Yellow lovers here have stated time and time and time again how clean the Yellows are and how dirty the Reds are.

Now we have the situation where the Government are being investigated for taking money and calls are being made for Dissolution.

Squeaky clean Yellows ?? That is a laugh by the looks of this and only goes to show what many of us in rural areas have known for a long time regards bribes being 'one sided'.

Is this simply a ploy to bring down the government? Maybe.

But there is no smoke without fire.

  2. Well there were some whining that Jingthing's reference to a POLL was wrong and biased.

Here's their chance to VOTE ONCE, and we can see what TVF people think of the situation.

So far lets just say, it appears 'Statistically significant'.

With no guarantee that it is 1 person 1 vote, a poll like this can never be statistically significant.

  3. It's about time! Totally justified for all the world to see.

A message to the good people of Thailand.

I can tell you with confidence the vast majority of foreigners support your honorable PM Abhisit in his valiant effort to fight anarchic red shirt's illegal attempt at revolution and the rule of a violent mob. Good luck to and best hopes for a PEACEFUL resolution.

so now u have taken up speaking for the vast majority of farang - well sunshine count me out of your vast majority - would u like to qoute what percentage u claim is the vast majority --- sounds like another yellow shirt supporter - illegal - what part is illegial - the illegal government in place or the reds who just claim equal justice and recognition -

Count me out of that vast majority too. Speak for yourself and your cohorts, Jingthing, not the rest of us.

  4. Tomorrow is a national holiday. Bangkok residents should hold their own counter protest in the streets surrounding Rajasaprong and see how the Reds enjoy being prevented from having freedom of movement. Keep them from wandering off to restaurants and hotels and bathrooms. Make their lives as miserable as they want make the lives of Bangkok residents. If the police won't enforce the laws that have been implemented the Reds will never leave.

What a load of absolute crap!! I live here in the middle of the Red Shirt protest literally under siege from the masses. Is my life miserable?? - Certainly not!

If I go out now I am in the middle of thousands of generally friendly people, lot's of them singing, dancing - it's generally a happy atmosphere. Apart from the noise it's not an unpleasant experience if you don't go out with an attitude or prejudice. Do I care about the luxury shopping mall being closed? No!

Do the average Bangkok people care about the luxury shopping malls to a degree that their life would be miserable once they are closed? Certainly not!

I can still buy food at thousands of little food stalls in the area. If I want to get out of the area I have a working skytrain just in front of my door.

Am I miserable because I cannot use my car now? Certainly not!

Well - everyone is as miserable as he chooses to be... My Thai wife and all her friends and neighbours in the area have got a similar positive attitude and I don't see any hatred against the Reds. I don't see anyone's life really being made miserable because of the Red Shirts.

I enjoy living in Bangkok and not being a Thai so I have chosen to let the Thais solve their own problems and I take a more neutral position, not condemning anyone.

I just wonder why so many TV farangs seem to have such a destructive attitude and seem to have chosen to make their own life miserable. I have chosen not to be miserable and enjoy life in Bangkok with all its conveniences and inconveniences. And since I am living here at the same place since about 10 years I can say that this is not just a temporary mood.

I like that. A post from someone who is actually in the middle of it and not hundreds or thousands of miles away and spouting rhetoric.

Keep that happy attitude and well done for the post.

  5. UKBMD on the internet lists marriages, dates of and locations.

It is not too difficult to find the date of the marriage if he has his own name, her maiden name and also a rough idea of the year they married. He can also get her date and place of birth here too. All good information.

For the divorce he or others can log onto 'Ancestry' com on the web (not sure if I can post the link, but easy enough to search for) who also carry divorce dates. He does not need to be specific about the year but a 5+ years date range helps. As does the area if not the specific court that dealt with the divorce. Also his name - obviously.

A little research on the web gets you all the information you need. Then you get in touch with the local registry office who will post out a certificate.

  6. slightly off topic :D

I took one into a bar and fired it up. Mamasan was not pleased. The look of disgust I got was incredible and that in Thailands 'Sin City' on the coast.

I was told to either put it away or to get out :)

Yes I did put it away.

Goes to show they are not always well thought of here.

Assuming this post was really serious and not just a windup: doesn't show that at all. Take it into a bar in the USA and fire it up and see how the management and customers receive it.

This forum is always good for a laugh.

Would that be a bar full of working ladies in the U.S.?

No problem in the U.K., people would have a laugh and joke about it. A few females would take it off you and play with it too.

Maybe more laid back where I come from :D

  7. It was the bank employee who told me a load of rubbish that annoyed me today.

    But that's life here.

I had some of that. Used my Visa card at the bank and got some money transferred after the intervention of a 3rd staff member who actually got Stirling sent over when the other two said it was not possible but then she charged 590 Baht as a Visa charge !! Grrrr.

edit - Mods, we should have a 'Daily Rant' forum :)

Yes I did put it away.

Goes to show they are not always well thought of here. On the other hand while you are away in your home country, you need something to keep the lady in your life content, just make sure it is not addictive, or bigger than your own :D

  9. As long as the disabilty pensioners are in fact disabled, then it shouldn't matter where a person spends their money or their time, if they choose to spend time abroad then so be it.

Pensions are paid in certain countries, I can't see why just because one chooses to stay in Thailand they should be penalised.

I would suspect however that there are quite a few who are not actually disabled, just using the system, you know like all the Brits living here still claiming winter fuel allowance.

Wow!! a huge sum - the winter fuel allowance !! Let's party every night, week, month, if the old bones of those that qualify would let them :):D

As to the Aussies and the prospect of being denied this disability allowance, I feel for you there. Many UK people in the same situation have their money stopped in similar circumstances even if they are disabled.

Seems to me that if you are declared medically unfit to work you should not have to be a prisoner in your own home. Life is too short anyway and for the disabled, also can be very difficult. Let them have the freedom to do as they choose with what little they do get.

What you and the others say is true.....problem with the Aussie system is there is too many bludgers and too many people with not much wrong with them on these types of pensions.....its a shame to punish the sincere ones tho.

Yes, but if youre able to travel to SEA it would seem you cant be that sick, surely if you can do that youre fit enough for somekind of work.

Yet, I have UK friends with chronic heart problems, cancer, chronic arthritis and other serious illnesses and they regularly travel around Europe (mainly to Spain, Portugal, France). The weather and atmosphere keeps them ticking over nicely and actually aids there health.

Of course there are going to be people who abuse the system, but there are also going to be those who say that if you can push a button, you are able to do some kind of work.

There needs to be a balance in this.

If the department concerned in Australia sees someone travelling a lot or living away for most of the year, surely they could look at it on an individual basis and act accordingly and not tar everyone with the same brush of being a layabout or on the fiddle?

  11. In Thailand they have come around my house a few times. I say "Not interested, but good luck with what you are doing", they leave. No big deal.

In the US, they used to come to our house every week, I kid you not, the mom and two daughters. Every week same thing, "I am not interested" then more rudely "stop coming here, I will never be interested".... Finally I opened the door and spoke in a devil like voice telling them I worshiped the devil, and asked if they wanted to give their souls to the mighty Satan and join the true leader of earth. I never saw them again, not even on the street bothering neighbors, I guess they skipped our block after that.

Another time in the US, had another religious group kept coming around, so I asked "didn't Jesus die for our sins?" they said "yes", so I said "if I lead the good life and stop sinning, that would mean Jesus would have died for no reason, do you really want to make Jesus' death be for nothing?" the blank stare while they tried to figure out a response was priceless.

I think the religious nuts in Thailand are allot more civil and don't try as hard to convert you. I have never had the same person knock on my door twice here.

I was wondering about that. I did ask teh g/f but she has never encountered them before, so she could not answer my question.

Easy for us foreigners here to show we do not understand what they are saying and easier to get them to go.

I do recall instances in the UK where these people have harangued people in their own homes for hours after being let into their homes. Thought it might be the same here.

Yes, sometimes you do have to be more than firm to get them off your doorstep.

  13. Palusa

I know these people well, they believe according to the bible that we are all in last days, they take it upon themselves to go out and be abused and ridiculed to share and warn mankind about their beliefs of impending termination of this system. They do not "harange people for hours" they put their fear of abuse and ridicule to one side to try and help their brother and sisters of mankind as or in a type of giving you life belt type situation. I wonder if you would have the necessary bottle and the guts to be able to do the same

    ????

    :)

  14. If not a joke on behalf of the Nation, I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of retaining a suspects passport. If and when they are found guilty they should be for the chop. Physical or Chemical it does not matter.

Childhood should be a time of innocence and fun as it lasts such a short time (though in a few cases a lifetime LOL) Seriously though, I welcome any means used to preven abuse of children be it sexual or otherwise.

  15. The taxes of alcohol should be increased to start covering the costs of some of the PROBLEMS it causes. Simple really :D

Good idea. Any increases could be used to care for all those with big beer guts hanging over their waistband. That is a BIG problem for many :)

Prevention of accidents too, like some April Fool drunk tripping over his own feet and needing to go to hospital. Umpteen opportunities here.

  16. Hi G54,

I know just what you mean! I'm sick to death of people knocking on my door looking for donations. Just had a woman from the sperm bank. , boy! Did I give her a mouthful.

:) Yeah that happens to me all the time !

Lucky so n so's. I have to pay to give that sort of donation :D

  17. Yes, in English (back home) they are a right pain in the ass. Here, I can well understand why the street was deserted. I was home alone or else I can imagine them pushing their verbal way in toe door and camping in the house for hours spewing forth their diatribe.

Next time I see them I will go out with no bra and ask if they would like to milk my 'man breasts' of the Devil milk inside :)

Offensive post? Are you a Jehovah's Witness Needforspeed ?

I would not have thought there was much call for this religious group in Thailand. Have others had them at their door too? Or are they starting out now?

No i am not, just the idea that they keep trying and many time just get sh%t been trowen over there heads.

They don't harm so why hurt them.

They do no harm? Maybe not physical harm, no. But I have known people being harangued for hours in their own homes by these zealots who, once they are in the door do not want to stop their diatribe until you are converted. For a religious group they do not seem to have a great deal of Christian care in that respect. Is that not harmful? Stress and on the verge of brainwashing people.

I have no idea if they use the same tactics here, but I can well imagine they do. I'll ask the Boss when she comes back tonight.

I have nothing at all against religion. I do have a problem with people trying to force their ideals down your throat be they Muslim, Jehovah's Witnesses, C 0f E, Catholic or any other religious group.

In the same way I have nothing against salespeople but when they also sit there for hours until you sign on the dotted line, that is an intrusion into privacy.

  19. The bell rang at the house. I slipped on a shirt and wandered downstairs. Standing in the Soi were a group of people. One of them approached me and started rabbiting away in Thai before I could say a word. My incomprehension was obvious when she stopped to take a breath. I was able to tell her I did not understand.

She handed me a leaflet before she and her colleagues went away to ring more doorbells.

The leaflet is in Thai but the last line said it all. Watchtower. (Jehovah Witness) No wonder people were not answering their doors. In fact I have never seen the street so quiet.

Seems there is no escape from those people even here in Thailand!! They were a pest in the UK and I'd have hoped I'd escaped their ringing of bells and knocking on doors when I left the UK :)

Thankfully I could not understand a word she said or I'd never have got rid of her :D
