  1. God Moderators, PLEASE PLEASE close this thread.

Pleasedo not close thisthread. It shows a lot of what Pattaya is like and a read of the threadis enough for people to knownot to move there.

Why? because of all the unhappy people posting on here?

98 pages or whatever is a lifetime's worth of totally boring, historical, moaning, insulting, bitter, gloating, now-irrelevant waffle for someone to have to do that.

Start a new thread to assist potential newcomers, entitled something like "Don't come to Pattaya. It's rubbish", although I personally disagree with that sentiment, especialyl if based on its (Thailand's) specious and capricious planning laws.

Nah - this thread is done.

    I disagree

The thread is about - Jomtien Condo Owners Sue For Sea View

Well whilst the new owners in View Talay 7 are burying their heads in the sand the Supreme Court has yet to give a final decision on this case

One poster suggested this could drag on for years

Should this thread drag on for years?

    Questionable

However shame to close the football ground until the game is really over

Even though 99% of the crowd has left the stadium

  2. I'm almost certain they have them in Foodland. They also have really nice English breakfast sausages that I cooked with the turkey last year - yummy!!

Taking a rest this year :)

Does anyone know if Yorkshire Puddings are still available in Foodland?

not been funny but why dont you have a look yourself??you are very Knowledgeable about most places and you are very well versed in what is happening around town, and foodland is not exactly out of the way, or do you just want to restart out of date threads???

Well I have read every post and it covers most everything

However there is an important part of the procedure that no one has mentioned

And it is the most important part if you want the puddings to rise proper

Some of you got close - but not close enough

Give you a clue - you are trying to make the puds in Thailand not Yorkshire

    What's the difference?

  3. >>I have two sons in the military

In the US ? ,Why ?,could they not get proper jobs ?

Someone suggested one of my posts was the "most ridiculous" he had seen on ThaiVisa

    Thaifan2

I find your post one of the most OFFENSIVE remarks I have ever seen on ANY webboard

My sons and thousands of other sons are putting their lives on the line

    Some pay the ultimate price

    Some are maimed for life

And you suggest they "get a proper job"

    SHAME ON YOU Thaifan2

    SHAME ON YOU

  4. And that was enough. The Op is asking about military service in Thailand, so let us stay on topic. Discussing if someone is a coward or not for not wanting to get drafted is not.

Please read the opening post again

His stepson is Thai (right now) not American

In Thailand there is compulsary military service (with lottery selection)

The opening poster acknowledges this and asks for advice on how his Thai stepson can avoid military service

He accepts this can be done through corruption and asks for further advice

And board members here give it!!!!!!!!

    With respect moderator

Does ThaiVisa condone it's members discussing and giving advice on how to cheat, flount Thai law so essentially ThaiVisa is not only condoning illegal activities with regard to Thailand but encouraging it's members to do so?

  5. No Thai citizen need do military service if they don't want to. Just ask around for details. Traditionally, it's not discussed on internet forums.

Why does he not want to do military service?

He is willing to hold Thai citizanship so why should he not serve his country?

    Is he a coward?

How old are you? 8 years old or something? I think that is one of the most immature and ridiculous statements I have ever read on this forum... "Is he a coward" What is all that about!

I have two sons in the military

Serving their country and risking their lives to protect my freedom and the freedoms of all the other posters on this board and the freedoms of the family and the boy trying to get out of doing his duty

I am asking the opening poster why his son is trying to avoid military service

This is top of the list in my opinion - I am entitled to an opinion here?

  6. Hmmm,

I think most abuse of children happens by people they know and from their own family.

Demonising the world's population of men is probably also a form of abuse.

Whilst not defending child abusers, I cant see this line of thinking particularly helpful in stopping it in but a few instances.

    How about reeducating the abusers.

    Forget education

    Try Castration

  7. Total waste of space and money

Can you really imagine anyone with the money to have their own personal helicopter buying a unit in any low end View Talay project

It's not for the kee-niows who buy VT units...it's for the VT developer who hops from VT to VT in his private helicopter (paid for by the buyers of these units) to check the latest sales numbers at each project :)

    You don't need a helicopter

View Talay build them so close together you can jump from one to another.

Of course if you don't have strong legs then you end up as a pile of mush

  8. Have you done a speed test? What kind of upload and download speeds does that service give you? I'm always looking for a cheaper alternative to True's T-LAN rip-off service, which at 2000 Baht/month for 1.8 Mbps maximum upload speed (and all torrent sites blocked by the ISP :) ) is a bit pricey. It might have been OK when it was first introduced in JCC back in 2004/2005, but I've heard guys reporting that they are getting 8 Mbps now in Pattaya, and for just 1200 Baht/month.

Yesterday, got connected to CAT Telecom. Just did a speed test at speedtest.net. Nothing to get excited about: download: 1.76 mb/s; upload: .66 mb/s; ping: 63 ms. ; a couple of minuted later from speedtest.thaivisa: 1.6 DL and .75 UL

For me a constant and consistant internet connection is vital

I have tried many companies and ditched them because of the constant worry about becoming offline, out of touch and isolated at the drop of a hat

Accom may not be the fastest

I can usually download a movie in 3 or 4 hours - but I rarely do this

You tube and news videos are usually ok

But the main concern is constant connection

Accom has had a few periods of concern - probably due to the reliance I think on CAT

Although the Shennanigans and loss of views from the ars***** in front have dented my enjoyment I am reticent to leave JC as I have found Accom to be more than acceptable

  9. Thanks Syd, good Information.

Skate; if you like to spend 10 times( or 100 times) the amount of money for your food, thats fine, but keep the fxxk out of this thread. We dont need to hear your opinion. What are you doing in Thailand anyway, you should stay in Monaco, Geneva or other nice Locations, there you dont have to read stuff like this. Should you be unlucky and run out of money later on, Denner is the Super Market in Switzerland where you get Beer a lot cheaper then in any 7/11.

    Next

    Well said!

So there is no way we could call him a cheapskate

  10. I don't think cashew nut chicken is really popular with Thai people. I think a better basic test would be tom yum or pad krapow. Its amazing how many places can't even pull off a half decent pad krapow. I think Pattaya might have some of the worst Thai restaurants in Thailand due to the tourist trap trade. I know what you mean about test dishes though, I always check out new places with the pad krapow but not always the first visit. BTW, that "Best in Jomtien" joint, be wary of some crafty pricing tricks they play there, happened to me twice and then I stopped going, I am like that.

    I am a padkrapow con-u-sir

    Found the best in Pattaya

A new Thai restaurant opposite Seafood Emporium next to Jomtien Market

Easy to spot - spanking brand new open place on the corner of the front car park of the market

Padkrapow came with baby corn cooked in

I asked for spicy - and got it

    side dish of soup

Even brought me a plate of rambutans for free as an extra nibble

Pad Krapow fried egg - soup- and a coke

    50 Baht - aroi duay

Not tried any other items on the menu

  11. I don't use buses, but I think the Jomtien "bus terminal" (such as it is) is on Soi Chayapruek. You could take a look down there, or ask someone.

There is a new luxury bus service going non-stop from the Foodmart parking lot by Soi Thepprasit to Swampy airport. It's only 124 Baht and leaves every 2 hours. You could then find your way from the Swampy bus station to anywhere in Bangkok.

If you're interested, the new Jomtien-Swampy bus service has a website HERE.

I live in Jomtien and travel often to Ekamai

I have never used the Jomtien-Bkk service

I have taken the Ekamai-Jomtien bus - never again - 4 hours is just taking the micky

Nearly every Baht bus on Jomtien goes to Naklua

take the Baht bus - get off at Dolphin roundabout past Alcazar - 20 Baht

Walk accross the road there is another Baht Bus that goes along to the bus station - 10 Baht

or get a motorcycle taxi 20-30 Baht

Another option is 100 Baht for motorcycle from Jomtien to bus station

Tempted to try the new Airport bus and then on to Bkk but most of my meetings are early morning in Bkk so the normal Pattaya bus is the best bet

  12. 'Get someone to write in Thai you a sign on a white card "Mai ow Kap" '

Any chance of someone on ThaiVisa, who has access to a Thai type-font, spelling "Mai ow Kap" out in Thai and posting it here so it could be printed in bold type?

    .

    ไม่เอาครับ ขอบคุณครับ

In bigger font, and added "thank you" after, just to make it polite! :)

What is all this crap about Khrap and politeness

    They are a bloody nuisance

Considered as low as crap by the Thais

What you gonna do next? - make yourself look a complete <deleted> and wai them?

    Better to say

    Mai Ow - Pai leey

I don't want want - piss off - and forget the khrap bit

  13. I will bit the bullet so to speak I have used BPH for the last 2 years my baby was born there and we use them for him and I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer there most of the time I have had no problem with billing and when I have it has always got sorted even when they rung me to tell me that they had OVERCHARGED me by about 15000B and asked if I could come back for a refund

The cost of anything depends on different peoples ideas where some people are happy to sit in a waiting room for 3hrs to save a little money others do not want to do that I being one of them so I go to BPH for most of my problems I find that the doctors bill is between 400-600B +150B for facilities which is around 10-13 pounds if I could get to see a doctor in England for that ammount when I wanted to and not have to wait for 1hr or more or told I could have an appointment in 3or4 days I would of had done so

    This Forum is about Pattaya/Thailand

    I am from England also

When I need to see a doctor or make a trip to the hospital I compare prices and services given by different medical institutions here in Thailand

Total waste of time pontificating of well it would cost Xpounds back home

  14. I had an apses removed from my leg at the "Bangkok Pattaya Hospital" earlier this week, as it has left a small wound i need to go back daily & have the dressing changed, I had the dressing changed yesterday, 475 baht, been back this morning to have same thing done, bill was 775 baht.

I asked the cashier why the increase in price, she said ask the dept. I told her your the cashier i'm asking you. She just said i don't know?

I fail to understand how the price can increase 300 baht for the same procedure in less than 24 hours?

I know your only talking small money, but it's the principal. not the money.

    It's called "Taking the Puss"

  15. Robins Nest on Soi Diana does a lunchtime special of a Thai Curry and Rice + A beer of your choice.

    Cost 149 Baht. Recommended!

Doesn't sound very special to me :)

Get the real thing at your local Thai restaurant - better and cheaper

I had a sausage & mash on special at Robin's

The sausages were rock hard and completely inedible

I ate the mash & gravy cause I was hungry

After the meal I complained leaving the sausages on the plate

Surprise surprise they didn't charge me for the meal only the coke I drank

So went back again - steak and kidney pudding was acceptable

    Dessert was even tastier

Cost me 1,200+ for that meal

The food was tempting and sat out on the veranda so was the passing................

  16. Assuming of course that they don't lose the appeal with the Supreme Court

So could be a handover to the owners/investors or to the demolition crew

I realize that there are no fence sitters when it comes to the legalities of VT7, You are either completly for it or think that it is the anti-christ on earth

That said even if the Supreme Court decides against VT7, the building is there to stay. They have a legal permit to build issued by the City (Check building site) so I would assume that City Hall would be responsible for removing the building. You could safely assume another 3-5 years in court for that little episode.

How deep are your pockets Stop VT7?

    Are you blind?

    Can you read real English?

Now how on Earth could I be StopVT7?

    Does my name read StopVT7?

    No

I write in real English (with the odd mistakes - I am human) - not StopVT7's garbled English - which is due to his Dyslexia - not his lack of education

Now get your head out of the sand and respond with responsible and accurate comments - please

I am stating the obvious - that this affair is not over yet

It is not only unbelievable that the present investors in VT7 bury their head in the sand - which is sand that is obviously too close to be legal, but also mind boggling is the daily parade of would be buyers who are blind to the fact that this building is still under litigation.

Is it not bad enough that the daily reported scams and dodgy practices in the Pattaya real estate business don't deter investors. My oh my there is another one born every day. Another (soon to be) poor punter so in love with his bargirl (barboy) that he loses all sense of what is real or what is a scam.

To be honest I have given up caring or worrying for these lovelorn loonies

A fool and his money are soon parted - It is just that in Pattaya this process is on fast track

  17. Visited VT 7 last week. Overall quite happy with the way things are progressing. The views (both sides) from the units towards the front of the building are very impressive. Aesthetics in the building have improved slightly on VT6, lifts are a bit more modern, and the landscaping outside is progressing nicely. The swimming pool is pretty much finished and sits approx 30m from the beach.

VT should be able to hand this over by Nov/Dec this year.

Assuming of course that they don't lose the appeal with the Supreme Court

So could be a handover to the owners/investors or to the demolition crew

  18. I'll vouch for Curries on Soi LK Metro, good quality food at good prices, the beers also being sold ar reasonable prices unlike many places around Patts.

The owner seems a decent enough sort aswell.

You will have a long wait if you are looking for a curry at Curries

"Curries is closing for the summer period and will re-open in September. We would like to thank all our existing patrons for their custom and look forward to serving you again later this year.

Our last day of operation will be Thursday 18th June (tomorrow).

    regards,

    Rikky"
