What exactly was wrong/missing with your application? In the end did they accept it? If so, I'd say you're in the clear. I did this last year and I'm about to do it again based on income. I'm not looking forward to it in the slightest.

Number of Thai employees. It was no issue last year. They did accept the application.

No matter whether you are right or wrong, that IO should show some respect and mind her manners when speaking to you, if she showed that attitude to me, I would retaliate in the same manner she showed me.

What I am saying here is not just talk, I have proved that on two occasions so far. Don't be afraid to stick up for yourself, but also, never be abusive to them.

Although a small minority of IOs can have a hostile attitude towards people, I don't think any of them will actually be abusive towards anyone.

It was false politeness she showed. Luckily she was not the one who directly handled our case, but she was walking around in the morning looking at everybody's paperwork.

She uses a shrill and penetrating voice that is just slightly louder than necessary. She does not speak like to her colleagues.

Have you considered the possibility of applying for permanent residency status and/or Thai citizenship in the longer term?

Well, yeah. I have seriously thought about applying for citizenship. My country finally allows dual citizenship. But if they reject my 10th application, I have a snowballs chance for that. I have read about the process for citizenship. They ask any question they want, come and dig into the smallest detail. Getting an extension of stay is a cakewalk compared to that. Besides that, my wife is so angry she is about to go nuclear on them. Told her to chill, but you know. I'm not chill about it this time either.

Like I said, this year is not like before. Oh, your business went down the drain? We don't care. I understand they have to follow orders, but come on. All those tourist people that got stuck because of lockdowns? They got lots of understanding. Us that have been here for a long time and done all they can to be legal? Nah. Go and die.

  4. To answer some of the questions.

Yes, I have used income from work permit for the last 8 years. They have always accepted it in the past.

We never had enough in savings to meet the 400k in bank option. I know that is way easier.

Had to sink all savings into our company to stay afloat and keep the WP active. We are in the events business. So, since early 2020, nothing.

  5. Saw this on Jalopnik yesterday. I LOLled. I think there will be a market for it here. All the rich guys who have a Vigo, will want this.

Might actually take some market share from well to do Vigo owners. If MB TH assemble here or import it, might go for 2.5mill.

It sure will put all the Thai-Chinese HiSo Big hair women's noses in a twist. tongue.png

I'm not so sure - the VW Amarok has been on sale for almost 1.5 years in TH. Sales are so small they don't even report them.... If there was a market for 2M Baht pickups, you'd think the Amarok would have picked up at least a few buyers?

The Amarok was buttugly and overpriced. The MB PU will be overpriced as well, but it is an MB.

  6. Besides all that, discouraging ethanol use because oil prices now are low is silly. Maybe subsidizing E85 is not a good idea, but these low petrol prices will not last. For a country like Thailand, which mostly imports its oil, has massive air pollution from vehicles, has loads of arable land for sugarcane production, E85 is a very good fuel.

In the future, E98 might be a very viable fuel here. Modern fuel systems are good at using this. Of course, methods of production must be refined further. Burning off stubble is stupid and unsustainable.

  7. So, everybody up in arms about this, but very little actual numbers or facts. Only that the tax will apply to "houses" or "properties" worth above 1million.

Q1: What is the tax rate?

    Q2: Is it progressive?

Q2: Who will assay the property/house value?

Forgive me for being cynical, but I think the rich land owners will find "loop holes" to avoid this tax.

Like they do on their Lambos and Porsches.

    edit:

The proposed structure for residential land is:

    - first million baht excluded

    - second and third million baht taxed at 0.05% of evaluation

    - beyond three million taxed at 0.1%.

Q1 and 2 answered, but where does this wisdom come from?

  8. My wife just noticed that turning on white lights chased them away. Orange light or warm white attracted them. The little black flies are called malaeng wii khon. You need to wash all your shower drains thoroughly and regularly take out the garbage.

  9. Anybody else notice that there are a lot more mozzies now in the dry season?

I have closed all the drain inspection hatches and the septic tank breather pipes, but still they come. Hundreds of them. As soon as it gets dark, they are all over our dogs.

We have two incense trays and put mozzie cream on them, but still little relief. I read something about they are coming from the street drains.

    Anybody have any ideas?
