  1. Im sorry but i have to say if i "had" to get home id go by road or other means to another country close by and fly from there,im sure an airline worth its salt would arrange this for someone in this turmoil,.it seems some are acting as if they are actually stuck in thailand when this is not realistically the case, ..some people are making a drama out of a crisis i feel,.to sit around waiting for a swat team to arrive by helicopter isnt going to happen just yet,.

  2. Just changed my hotel to move into one provided by TAT in Pattaya, accommodation and food for free, all well so far,its the least Thailand can do to stranded guest in their country.

Now the hotel want to charge me B900 a DAY to use the internet in my room.

I tried explaining to the manager that its needed urgently for my work and business, and that Thailand has already cost me and thousands others a lot of money, and they should assist as much as they can

Its just like they are trying to make money out of my predicament, the image of Thailand already damaged badly has not gone up in my opinion when you get treated like this, and i will make my feelings well and truly known to the hotel when i get back home .

I am just a hard working guy and it took me a long time to save to come on this trip, and I've already had to draw on emergency money i cannot afford

Use a cheaper internet cafe in town. There are lots of them. If they have put you in a posh hotel with free food, you can't complain too much (look at the events in Mumbai if you wish to feel grateful). It's not the manager's fault and nor his job to underwite the sins of PAD. Sorry.

I do appreciate being given a nice hotel, but program's on my laptop are need for work, i was supposed to be back yesterday. I just think B900 is taking the piss

Its normally B900, B5000!!!! for the week.

    Its the Sunbeam

Do you not have wifi ? :o
  3. Many businesses are moving to Vietnam. Thailand once on the verge of development, has now taken steps backward that might take a several decades if not a century to recover.

    Barry

Well im inclined to agree, we saw on the news that Nissan and Toyota are considering moving to Vietnam,,seems Thailand has bitten the hand that feeds it,. what a mess,.
  4. Our friends coming in a wedding party of 50 to hau hin have now cancelled,...they had no problem apparantly with getting a refund,.whatever happens thailand has shown itself to be no better than any other third world country,.we love it here but are considering leaving,.peter was at the supermarket and a thai asked him in a nasty way why thaksin was allowed to stay in the uk, its now getting a little uneasy,.

  5. Unfortunatley you have to factor in the "second hand" problem when trying to sell.

Most Farangs that are in the market are hooked up with Thais...they do not like second hand because they beleive in ghosts.

In CM I have seen some unbeleivable bargains, probably priced at 50% of their build price.....all still for sale...because they are second hand, even though some are only a few years old.

One property was absolutley breathtaking....but was built 5 houses along from a Chinese cemetary........that one is gonna take litterally a "life time" to sell

Well id buy near a cemetary if the price was right, wouldnt bother me in the least that someone was trying to put the willies up me ! :o:D
  6. I think a lot of people are missing the main problem, trust, she has been unfaithful as i see it, thats dishonesty also,.it dosent matter whether its with a man or a woman,.i think you need to talk to her, ask her if she prefers women to you,.be prepared, but even if she wants to share herself amongst women and you im afraid its a slippery slope to you being abused emotionally,.good luck, Gordon

  7. Hello, well the banks in the UK do seem to be behaving rather odd, our next door neighbor is a school teacher and told us 2 weeks ago he had a call from his uk credit card co and asked him to do a means test as he had been late twice with monthly repayments .after doing one with him on the phone they went on to say that he was in no position to make the minimum monthly payments and would he consider paying a part payment to close the account, to cut a long story short he paid 800 pounds to clear a 3200 pound debt, i know its true, i saw the letter of confirmation he was sent,.

    Gun

Ive been watching from the sidelines for a while, but i have to say that in most gun related news articles its nearly always the "bad guys " that are mixed up with public shootings ,gang related warfare etc,.i dont think ive ever read that a housewife under attack shot an intruder,.( although im sure one has ) i personally am terrified of guns but im sure it gives some peace of mind to some to have one,.im sure gun ownership must also rely on ones temperment and there lies the problem, this is where people have to rely on their own honesty, would you shoot someone in a road rage incident, or for a personal insult or similar,.?,.how do you know ?,. im absolutly sure that most if not all the people commenting on here are not criminals with intent to kill someone, but i do know that if you ever pull the trigger your life will never be the same, unless you have no conscience or are of course a criminal,.i pray you never have to,.

    Gun

Do I want one or need one? Probably, in my mind, a little of both. I NEED one for self protection and I WANT one for the same reason. It might be protection from a 2 meter cobra in my garden or a 1.8 meter thug with a knife. Either way, the need is there..ergo, the want exists.

Are there any simple solutions to this ongoing discussion? Probably not, but I will at least let you have the last word on it. Small words would be appreciated. :D

Good post Chuckd - hope you don't make it your last.

Ok, small words it is then. :D

If your primary concern is ego, bravado and a show of masculine strength, a gun may well serve your purposes. If on the other hand your primary concern is simply the welfare of yourself and your family, whether it be a 2 meter snake or a 1.8 meter thug, your best option is to simply walk or if necessary run away. Neither snakes nor thugs will be bothered to chase you. For what?

Having a weapon, whether it be a gun, a knife or whatever, gives you that choice, to flee or to fight, and i think that with the exception of the likes of John who previously posted on this thread, who has professional training and first hand experience of dealing with life threatening situations, the general public just doesn't have the wherewithall to be making the right choice, especially in times of high stress and panic. John also made the point himself that there's a lot of ignorance out there, not only concerning the equipment but also in terms of how and when guns should be used - words which seemed to fall on largely deaf ears.

Now i know that running from a fight might go against a man's better testosterone affected judgement (especially if his castle is under attack), and noone wants to be seen as a coward, but the truth is if you really want to do what's best for your family, you'll put all those issues to one side and just put distance between your family and the danger. It's simply the easiest option with the least probability of things getting ugly.

Ironically, not having a gun (or weapon of any description) will more often than not save your life, or save you from injury.

Having a gun (or weapon) will draw you towards danger when you should be headed in the other direction.

Just my opinion, for what little it's worth. :D

Best post/advice so far, Brilliant,. :o
  8. It begs the question....why would anyone want to bring a gun to Thailand or anywhere unless they mean to use it ? I don't respect violence or gun ownership for the wrong reasons.
Im with you,.guns scare me and i wouldnt want to mix with the people that might/would use them,. :o .....i think id feel just as bad if i shot someone or they shot me, either way,....
  9. Jeezus . .some of you guys must have had (or are currently having) very bad relationships.

What is the problem here? If my wife calls me and I can't/don't answer immediately, it's because I can't hear the ring (phone in my pocket) or I'm in a meeting or a million and one other reasons. She understands that. It's hardly the end of the freakin world.

    And vice versa.

    How sad this all is.

I agree Mr Bendix,. it seems there is a lot of mistrust/jealousy here,.this seems to be a never ending circle of this for some people,..i think if its a partner from "the profession " neither will ever trust the other it seems,..if there is no trust there is no chance for sucess i feel,. regards,Gordon
  10. A woman 20 years older than me would be in her mid 90's and probably not a lot of fun on a date. Besides my wife would be pissed at me regardless of the age. :D So in response to your question........no I wouldn't
Thats funny, :o ,..so would this be,.

Thats amazing 1000% value loss in one year on some housing values. I wonder if this type of thing will hit thailand.

I consider some canny buisnessmen will be investing money in some of these snatchback property auctions, think i may cash up some spare baht we have ! :o .where will it end, Experts ?

I don't know where it will end but I know where it should end - when real estate assets represent fair value and when borrowers income and savings are fairly matched to asset values. Eight times earnings, fifty year mortgages, mortgages of 120%, my arse!

Absoluely agree, the house prices and related mortgate payments are what have kept a lot of people poor in the uk, its ludicrous, how are the young ever to buy when the repayments on a 70k loan are 1000 a month and they earn 1400... no for the sake of the young i hope it drops to a point where they can get on the property ladder without fear of repossesion if they go sick for a month ! :D
