  1. never ceases to amaze me how a simple topic question can degenerate into defenses of where one lives,..............a simple answer to the question would be to tell us all what it is like. There, end of story but everyone happy!

too me it looks like the OP set the tone when he made a certain reply. but i could be wrong................ am I?

  2. 4 hours? From Samui to Koh Tao just an hour and a half.

True. Sorry for that typo. 4 hours from chumporn though.

No about the same from Samui. It is 4 hours, or there abouts, from Samui to Chumphon or vise versa. Obviously never been or done it and as said just using broad generalisations for all 3 islands.

You have a lot of dive shop owners, dive instructors, dive masters and people training to do both of the above. You also have bar owners and other people who have income from abroad and just love the Tao lifestyle. Oh and a few beach bum hippy types as well. :o

Ohh, thanks for the great answer. "just love the tao lifestyle".

So, let me formulate the question differently, i didnt realize it was so difficult to understand.

    -What is the tao lifestyle?

Ohh, and yes, ive done the lomprayha ceveral times and not later than 5 days ago actually. My point was more that samui has less hassled connections in case of needing to go to mainland quick. Not that particular connection because it´s an hour shorter from tao to choumporn than from samui. Clear enough?

And no, i´m not using broad generalisations for all 3 islands. Infact i tried to ask what koh tao is all about. Allthough if you are an expat there i already got a little closer to the answer. Now, c´mon tao people. Surerly there is something special to tell us about? How about some pictures and stories.

So if you have "done" the lompraya several times, why don't or didn't you invest 1 day of your obviously very busy schedule to come to koh tao.

you can read all you want about this little island but you'll never fully get it until you've been there .

But if 1.5 hour on the ferry is too much for you (like it is for a lot of samui tourists) don't bother. You wouldn't like it here anyway.

by the way the lompraya takes only 2 hours to go from tao to chumpon. so you were wrong again. Who told you about that anyway, or did you find that information on the the internet like most of your knowledge and experience maybe .

  3. There is a shop in Fortune Town that sells 10m HDMI cables for about 1200 baht. I can't remember the name but its in the IT Mall on the right hand side a few shops back as you face the big round area.

That sure sounds like a good price, the cheapest 10 meter cable i found so far on the net was 6000 baht.

I will be going to bkk in around 3-4 weeks so if you go to fortune before that time could you tell me the name of the shop. that would be great

  4. I need some 10 meters of reasonably priced hdmi cable and also some good quality speaker cable. Does anybody know a good adres in bkk to get this from. I was thinking of maybe looking in pantip plaza or fortune mall but would like to have a specific shop to look out for.

  5. I am looking for an adres to buy some good quality but reasonably priced hdmi cable. also i am looking for some speaker cable. Anybody knows a good adres for this? most likely this will be somewhere in pantip plaza. i just would like to avoid walking around there for hours looking for the best place

  6. Actually I love to hear about rising flight prices and cuts in flight service.. Hopefully this will mean Pattaya can return to being the quiet third World backwater it used to be... Less tourists/wannabee expats mean less greedy developers and property speculators. Less ''high end'' dreamers who want/need first world service and goods but can't afford to live in the South of France/manaco.. So try to change Thailand to suit them.. and less ''get rich quick/I'll start a bar/Farang food place types too.. Keep Thailand ''Thai Style'' if you need English fish and chips so bad.. b*gg*r off back to Blighty.. One or two places is surely enough. But now the amount of ''Irish pubs'' and ''Trad English cafes'' is getting out or hand... Not to mention German restaurants and the Estate Agent blight...

I really wanted to live in MANACO but couldn't find it so now thailand is my home. maybe next year i try to find the french reviara

  7. I heared about the Cat cdma network. I am not sure what this is . I like to get internet on my laptop through a telephone.

Is it possible to use a telephone (and what kind of) to get internet access or do i need an aircard for this?

  8. Thanks for the replies guys.

in my case where i want to use d-tac i understand that i can use any tri band, edge capable mobile phone. is this correct or are there specific models which perform better?

I am also looking for a mp3 player so maybe i can buy the nokia 5300 express music

You don't necessarily need a tri-band phone (GSM900/1800/1900) unless you plan to use pre-paid services in the U.S.A. (T-Mobile/AT&T). GSM900/1800 will suffice. Having said that most decent EDGE-capable phones have tri-band radios, probably as a result of integration.

The 3110C does have a good music player, I find it to be better than my iPod. It has what I consider to be a nonstandard headphone jack, 2.5 mm, so I use an adapter for my preferred headphones (min-RCA/3.5 mm). I use a 1 GB microSD memory card, with 2 GB max. It has a mini-UB connector so I normally use that for PC connectivity and E/GPRS use, although you can use Bluetooth. It has a Class 10 modem so a max. speed of 236.8 kbps.

The 5310 XpressMusic has a Class 32 modem so a max. speed of 177.6 kbps, and a micro USB connector. I love the form factor/size on this model. I priced the 5310 XM this week at 6,670 THB while the 3110C is probably closer to 3,250. The 5300 XpressMusic has a Class 10 modem.

I don't think the theortetical maximum modem speeds, will be a factor in day-to-day use.

It is good to hear that the 3110 has a good mp3 player. but is it limited to 2 gb memory card only?

that's not realy enough for me . was thinking more like 4gb

  9. Poker kid .

Great attitude for someone who is living on what used to be a real chilled out island, you are right in what you state however regarding the legalities.

Maybe my 60 year old mother was a moron as she enjoyed the independence it gave her on her last visit.

Unfortunately the new cool instructors who believe its ok to tear round pissed put her of somewhat.

Take a trip to two views or Laem Tian and chill a little.

    I know I know.

like you say . it used to be.

i consider people that don't know how to properly drive a motorbike and still rent one while on holiday morrons. also people who know how to drive and drive under the influence of whatever are morrons too.

but i guess it is ok for me to drive while drunk since i am an "old" instructor and am not cool at all :D

i love driving to Liam tian on my 250 cc two stroke motorcross bike. you can get some good air time driving on that road. only the pedestrians don't seem to happy about it. But hey, they should rent a bike, preferably a quad and sponsor the local health clinics.

ok, that last part about the 250 cc bike is not true. i just drive a ratty old honda dream. :o

  10. Stuff the rental firm. Surely your Insurance Company will have a legal team who can advise you what to do.

I doubt very much that this would stop you from entering Thailand again. Look at all the other dodgy character's entering.

Anyway, hope all is well soon.

    Good luck and best wishes.

    very nice attitude here.

imagine you rent out bikes for a living and some idiot that doesn't know how to ride a bike breaks it and does a runner, how would you feel.

  11. I have seen this soooooo many times on koh tao.

    tourist comes.

    tourist wants to rent bike.

thinks that a quad is safe because it has 4 wheels although it is not. it is very unstable.

drives it with a passenger although it is not allowed.

drives it without helmet and proper clothing.

these quads do not have license plates and are not insured. they are illegal to drive on the island.

if the police make a report they will state in there that the quad is not legal to drive on koh tao so the insurance companies will not pay.

now that the OP made his mistake and destroyed a motorbike .he doesn't want to pay for that bike and sew the owner of the bike?. what a lowlife.

he says the brakes didn't work. bla bla bla. if he knows how to drive a motorbike he would have known after maximum 20 seconds that the brakes were faulty if they were so.

did he leave his brain at home when he came to thailand?

there are t shirts being sold now on ko tao that say on the back ATVS SUCK

nobody that lives here like them. only morons that cannot drive rent them.

  12. Thanks for the replies guys.

  13. thank you for the info. i currently have the choice of buying a telephone to get an internet connection or the usb connect 881. In my area they both seem to work best with dtac.

the usb connect device would cost me in the region of 11000 baht :o . that's why i am thinking of buying a telephone which could also do the job at maybe the same speeds.
