  1. We don't have a business plan yet. I didn't think it would be so hard. I figured it would be easy just to lease out a room, do a little advertising, and let her teach the young children (and/or anybody else) some private lessons. I didn't realize there would be so many rules and regulations.

    dreaming!

  2. Why don't you just give her your ATM card, pin number and let her use the money as she sees fit, seeing as it is a loving relationship founded on common grounds.

But seriously, if you want to spend your life with a working girl, 10k per month should be more than enough. But keep in mind that there are no pensions / social security for her and her family and if you are the only cash cow you will be milked (probably dry) ...

    how did you calculate that?

  3. plenty more cheaper fish in the sea,but beware she wont like to lose her golden goose, and could get nasty, watch your back.If your gonna have a live in relationship, then set the rules from day one,if your earning big baht and dont want her to work fine, but seriously 20,000baht a month is a lot of dosh.give her 8000 a month, more than enough.I fit was me i'd insist she get a job(not bar related of course.Laew tee khun though.

now that's cheap., i was giving mine 25K a month

  4. As I said in the original post I knew i would get the "why pay a girl to live with you brigade" slating me ........... but do none of you ever give your wives/gf's (thai or not) any money for there own needs???? I always gave my ex-wife (english) some money every month just to keep her sweet.... so she could go and get some new clothes/ perfumes etc!!!

exactly. if we make a bit share a bit.

doesnt mean you are buying a girlfriend. just common decency, aint it?

  5. Thai Visa had a moral duty to us not to tie us in

Because ThaiVisa, by its very success in bringing together so many farangs,

    the voice of the farangs,

a moral duty to, at least, discuss any such move as this openly with its members before it committed itself.and 'brand' themselves.

I am trying to think how we can limit the damage that ThaiVisa has caused to the whole farang community by this move.

The best would be for this tie-up to be untied immediately.

I wonder if this person 'George' is man enough to say:

"Sorry. ThaiVisa is my brainchild and I 'threw the baby out with the (commercial) bathwater'.

I am going to get it back by negotiating ThaiVisa out of this deal.

That will make it clear that all farangs are not in the Nation's pocket."

get a grip. what absolute piffle.

  6. I first started reading ThaiVisa in 2005, and joined in January 2006. It was a very different animal 3-4 years ago, and we used to have lively discussions, with many amusing, annoying and erudite members contributing to our daily read. Some threads were highly intellectual, others were very political, and still others were comical and informative in equal doses. In my view, the general ethos of the forum was that of a large family – sometimes squabbling, sometimes loving, occasionally mean and outrageous, but mostly tolerant and forgiving - as with most large families. By and large the ebb and flow of postings was allowed to continue unchecked, and TV gained a reputation for being entertaining, very informative and having considerable independence and integrity.

Thanks for your kind words. I can guarantee you and all other users that it wouldn't be any change at all of Thaivisa policies or ownership. We are parting up with a media organization that will take us to the next level, and that means a lot in these hard times. We have not been merged or bought up, we are just co-branding to get more members, more traffic, more media exposure.

Yen, yen! Take my word. Thaivisa is my brain child, and nobody will change this operation.

Yeah yeah, exactly, a natural progreession to the next level,

personaly i am excited. This is gonnna be huge.

I mean, thaivisa is already big exposure media wise online, Nation is already big exposure media wise paper wise, so for the two to cobrand (will we have t-shirts, btw) is just a natural synergy.

    I;m lovign the posibbilites.

Slogans, "Get a ThaiVisa to the Nation that you Love!" :o

  7. Hi all, hope i can get some input on this.

I am living in c mai and want to train to be an english teacher.

I know many teachers, most did the tefl course at text and talk academy, some at cmu.

Many reccommend text and talk and a few say cmu is better.text and talk is 44000 baht whereas cmu is 52000.

Would a school prefer a tefl from one or the other? or is the tefl the the most important requirement as opposed to where you aquire it from.

    any help is much appreciated

    both abt the same really

  8. Happens all the time. You will need to fill out a new one, and it will help if you remember the date you entered Thailand.

They won't make a big issue out of it, but will cost you a little bit extra time.

Thank you very much. I do remember the date that I entered Thailand. Also, this was stamped in my passport. I can sleep well tonight as I dont need to worry anything abt this issue.

    Best regards,

    yup. nuffink to worry about,

but next time staple it into your passport.

can cost money if they wanna hassle ya.

  9. This thread is not a free for all for certain posters to start on about their gripes with moderators/moderating policy. That rule is not new & has not changed due to the new venture. Contact admin if you want to have a pop at moderators but any posts doing so on the forum will continue to be deleted & posters warned.

I hope this clears up any questions of why posts have been deleted :o

shouldn't need clearing up, really, quite obvious, I would have thought.

    Oh and completely fair.

  10. I think people are being a little paranoid. The Nation is a newspaper with an editorial point of view. How you go from that to being afraid that disagreements with their slant on this forum or even a forum directly owned by them would be censored, I don't get your concern. Controversy and discussion means more eyes on the media, which means more potential ad sales.

I agree. i think too many peeps are kneejerk reacting here, they need to look at the bigger picture, which TV admin obviously has.

I'm surprised it hadnt been thought of before, a wealth of possiblities awaits. :o

  11. The only thing that you will notice is the re-branding plus an influx of new members/readers. This is called branding/marketing and has nothing to do with management.

The Nation and Thaivisa has been friends for many years, and now we reflect that in a co-branding and some marketing synergies.

Both The Nation and Thaivisa are separate entities with separate management. We will continue so.

Wooow. this is awesome, I see where admin is headed with this, and it is great, TV is already great and will just pick up more great posters along the way!

    Well done to thai-visa. (again)

    The awesomest forum in Thailand.

  12. Blast the stupid dogs in the face, probably only one time and they'll never bother you again. Two times, for sure they will never bother you again.

these dogs are only acting according to their natural instinct , there are far too many abused dogs around , no need to add to the number by squirting them in the face with bleach.

slow to a walk and wave a stick , shouldnt have to do any more than that to fully protect yourself.

    exactly.

  13. Hi,

Can anyone recommend a bank for a home loan? I initially applied at Bangkok Bank for 1.25 Million Baht which is 50% of the purchase price, the guy here in my local branch said no problem as I have everything they ask for ie an employment contract which confirms my salary and shows I can easily make the repayments each month, valid visa and work permit and Thai marriage certificate. The application was actually in my wifes name with me as a guarantor and we also showed recent receipts, as requested, for high value cash purchases such as a new pick-up and electrical goods which total over 850k Baht and copies of my bank statement which shows we have our 50%.

I am 33 years old and the loan would have been over a 20 year period but will be paid off way before then.

So 2 months ago the loan chap here said it will be fine but need the head office in BKK to OK it but they came back today and said NO...<deleted>! I'm thinking of going to SCB but would also like some suggestions if anyone else has taken out a similar loan recently.

    Thanks in advance

    S

happened to a friend of mine too, cheeky buggers.
