  1. Thanks for the informative report. I had always wondered about trying to find a legit card game in those Cambodian casinos, and now I see it's not likely possible.

I'm actually not surprised by much of what you say. Sounds like there's a regular bunch of Thais who basically live there just waiting for a chance to shamelessly collude in their play against foreigners. Of course in a real casino, these clowns would be turfed out onto the street in record time.

I've known a couple of foreign men whose Thai wives have almost lost their homes (seriously) playing in crooked house casinos in Thailand. In both cases, the wives admitted to knowing (or at least having strong feelings) that the decks were marked, but somehow they kept going back.

I dabble on Pokerstars and feel there's something rather fishy about that set up, but nothing as blatant as what you've described. I just can't imagine feeling confident about the legitimacy of gambling anywhere in SE Asia.

Dantilly, you can find playing cards for sale in every 7-11 store in Thailand. They're awful decks that don't last very long, but quite expensive.

  2. Tattoos and body piercing are the biggest turn-offs I can think of. I don't mind when girls get a little tat in a discrete place, but lately I've seen more and more Thai girls with big ones that cover most of their thigh, shoulder, or even on their necks. I don't care how pretty the girl's face is or how amazing her body is -- once I see those big tattoos, I'm completely turned off and wouldn't jump in the sack with her if she offered it free.

Pattaya seems to have more than its fair share of young guys with total upper body tattoos or even covering their entire body. Do you know that not too long ago people actually paid money at circuses to see these type of people in the freak show tents? Now, don't slam me for that piece of information. It's not intended to be an insult to any readers who fit the bill, but only a little fact.

  3. A&W have never been known for burgers. Yoou are supposed to have chili/cheese dogs with root beer. :)

I wonder how the owners of A&W would feel about your assumption, considering that (in N.A.) they offer 14 types of hamburgers and 3 types of hot dogs.

  4. I've been having intermittent problems over the last few days getting a connection to Google or any other website. This morning it was working fine then suddenly stopped again. Then it worked briefly. I could connect to speedtest.net and was gtting a good speed with them ( 3.5Mb/s) After going through a whole series of irrelevant tests with the girl on '1100' I got a phone call from someone. He says they have a problem with their DNS which will take several days to fix. I'm writing this using a VPN and realise that if you live in CM and have a similar problem you might not be able to read my post!

I've been having a problem for the past month with all webpages loading very slowly. Phoning 1100 has been an absolute waste of time. I've never talked to so many courteous but USLESS individuals in all my life.

  5. "Phuket must have no protests whatsoever," he said.

"No areas will be designated for demonstrations, there will be no road blockages, and there will be no protest letters submitted.

"Not even a peaceful gathering is allowed."

    Just your standard fascist oppression.

I've been here for 10 years watching this country slide backwards steadily.

  6. I did my first 90 day report yesterday and was fined 2000 Baht for being late, however as I was 14 years late I have no complaints!

    :) Nibor

This is why I have always said that the idiots are us who get into the 90-day reporting system in the first place. People who just ignore it are wise to do so. This guy went through 14 years of visas and countless dealings with immigration, and obviously nobody there cared less whether or not he was reporting.

  7. Thanks to the OP for the info. I will definitely use Bells Bus in the future. Good to know that there's an efficient service that will get me to the airport quickly and do something about idiots that get in the outside (fast) lane but don't understand the concept.

Besides, I've always thought that speed limits should be increased anyway. Let's face it, they were made decades ago when cars were not equipped with the technology we enjoy today like ABS.

  8. I've never had a such a good selection of TV shows since I started using bit torrents.

I couldn't possibly live with the guilt of giving 24,000 baht a year to crooks like True/UBC for such garbage service.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to a cable service, or I'd use that too since they're not usually more than a few hundred baht a month.

  9. I have deleted the posts by a member saying that he was interested in a sponsorship, and the replies to it, as obviously the members reading this topic cannot help him with it. As mcgriffith said, this is a matter this member should take up directly with sales at thaivisa. For anybody else interested in advertising on ThaiVisa, there is a link at the top right of the screen.

    Maestro

As one of the responders (if not the only one) i am dismayed at this action and the reason given. surely this is a forum which one would assumes invites contribution, communication and debate. the subject matter of the initial post congratulating a new advertiser makes a post from anyone who has not been able to acheive this a legitimate point of view. i was interested in the post and made a couple of replies and then had decided that that was the end of the communication for me. I did not indicate I was in a position to help him or even imply so although one could argue that reading the following from you " as obviously the members reading this topic cannot help him with it" may imply that I did. I enjoy both reading and contributing to this site and hope that our points of view not too far apart.

    LOL - far from it.

  10. The Thai government should be embarrassed by the laws it makes regarding drinking. The one forbidding sale of alcohol between 2-5 PM says to the rest of the world, "Our people are like irresponsible children who won't stay at work/school and do what they're supposed to do, so we have to make draconian laws to ensure that they won't shirk their responsibilities and get drunk instead."

This latest one screams out that the citizens of this country are not truly Buddhist, because if they were, they would follow the 5 precepts of Buddhism and not drink at all, let alone on religious holidays. But since religion here is only something superficial, we must make more draconian laws.

  11. The other approach is to buy a DVD player that handle formats like Xvid, DivX, AVI, MPG4, etc...

On another members advice, I bought one for 650 baht that does a surprisingly good job with the formats mentioned above, and it even has a USB port, so I can put these types of files on a thumb drive and play them.

  12. It is quite alarming reading this thread that people have no clue on what is happening daily. To actually think that a chemtrail is a conspiracy story? Wow it goes to show a lack of reading and to much trust in governments.. Next thing you guys will be believing that chemotherapy cures cancer and the FDA are looking out for everyone's health.

to the OP. My friend has taken many photos of chemtrails in the south of Thailand.. Only 2 months ago, he took a heap of chemtrail photos over Kata Beach.

Look up sometime, you might be surprised.

Ignorance is bliss, so there's not much one can do to get many people to expand their perception of the world. Most would rather put 100% confidence in governments, agencies, pharmaceutical companies, churches, etc. rather than look a little deeper into what might really be going on.

These types never seem to have anything constructive or factual to offer discussions that focus or even touch on any conspiracy theories. Instead, they simply make childish comments indicating that those who are curious and question what the mainstream media tells us to believe are a bunch of weirdos without a clue or a life. Each to their own I guess, but I'd rather listen to a man's thoeries than close my ears and mind to new ideas.

  13. I just received a call on my mobile (DTAC) and the number was *333. Rather than answering as a normal call, the option to "Accept?" was displayed. Can anybody shed some light on what type of call this is -- Collect, etc.?

I didn't "accept" as it seems a little suspicious to me.

  14. I was never a fan but appreciate that he had a large following.

Too bad he'll mostly be remembered for his strangeness and questionable encounters with children.

I'm amazed at how many people compare an "engraved memory moment" with that of JFK's death. I probably won't be able to tell you in month from now the day he died or what I was doing, but (to age myself) I can still remember many details very clearly from the day JKF was assassinated.
