  1. Can't be exact as there was a recent negotiation for a rise for Police.

But, a sub-lieutenant is about 10,000 a month , but , new on the job can be as low as 8,000 plus around 3,000 a month for Rank once you start getting promotions. There is also a 3,000 a month location fee paid to some Senior Ranks. Their Base is around the 25,000 a month.

In 2005 they started around 233 per day when the basic was 175 a day.

For interest , I saw this asked on another thread can't remeber where , but, it is connected.

Thailands average Police to Population ratio is about 3.35 per 1,000 ,

    USA is 4.08 per1,000 Rural & 3.2 per 1,000 Cities, UK is 2.04 per 1,000 (ranked 34th), Aust is 2.09 1,000 (ranked 32nd)

    ( United Nations source)

Thailand Police are ranked the 14th most heavily Populated Dept in the world.

USA is not usually ranked as it has so many agencies & count Park Rangers etc. (about 15,000 Law Enforcement Depts.)

  2. Guess they could just put a floating market down there.

Why Not , the new one in Pattaya is a bust , they could just move it in

    :o

The new floating market in pattaya is packed out every day of the week, are you perhaps referring to the decorative floating market within the Village mall?

You Got it ,could we wait for the full storms & float it in ??

    :D

  3. Apart from a ridiculous amount 20% (I was quoted) to pay the agent for looking after your property , check out a couple of posts re 'Fair Properties' etc & hope to he-l you get your rent! !

Even farang owners of agencies do not guarantee square business dealings , in fact maybe the opposite.

    Be Prudent,

  4. Guess what :- Clubs , Drugs , Prostitutes have equated many times in many Countries. Pattaya is no exception & if we were to make out it was more prevalent here than anywhere else , not only would that be a ludicrous assumption it would be a folly.

Quite frankly Charlotte who gives a dam_n?

  5. In Bangkok its the 13th to the 15th (I think) Are the water throwing days different in Pattaya. Can I escape Bangkok water throwing by going to Pattaya ?

    I hate Songkran!

You have gotta be kidding ! !

In Pattaya it's the whole week & if you don't like being blasted with every type of Water , including , Sewage , Urine etc. the last place you wanna be for Songkran is Pattaya.

  6. Some of this seems a bit OTT , a guy died in a motorbike crash , his family must be suffering emotionally , an innocent person is in hospital hurt , his family are probably affected as well. Sad all round.

Blame has nothing to do with the suffering of those left behind. So why add to it in a 'beat-up?'

'nuff said . Condolences & get well

  7. What's the difference between Police Offiers from :- Australia , USA , ASIA ???

Scenario :- Duty Officer & partner on street , as they turn a corner a very large man races at them with a large knife above his head screaming obscenities threatening to 'Kill all Cops"

Aussie Cops Processes :- Is he aboriginal ?, is he under the influence of a drug that he needs Medical assistance??, should we get permission to use force from the boss over the radio??? , is he a poor unemployed boat person ??, ----what the hel_l ! ! they Pepper Spray him & call an ambulace !!!

USA Cops processes :- Is he an African American ??, is he under the influence of an illicit drug??, is he an escapee from a mental institution??, should we notify our Supervisor??,-----what the hel_l , they Tazer him & call an ambulance !!!

ASIAN Cops process:- Is he Farang? --what the hel_l , they shoot him , 'sounds of reloading' as they keep shooting. They then film the body for the News Services & call an Ambulance!!!

  8. Yaba is basically Meth & Caffeine mixed to-gether (probably accounts for the color) & with more than 500 Drug dealers arrested in Bangkok alone just for February , this would suggest there is one heck of a market available .

As to more females , well , that usuually depends on demographics & the urine testing is not that accurate & ironically , caffeine used to be used as a masking agent.

With the profits that are made from illicit drugs there will always be a big market everywhere. The Socio economic background of the user usually is the guide for the type being used.

The scourge of all Society & the dealers the lowest of the low. Traders in misery & death. IMO

  9. No axe to grind , just flabbergasted that such an outrageous allegation can be made in public without any answer/denial or ramification to the originating author. Accusing someone of Bribery in print usually activates legal ramifications when it is a lie.

I don't judge either , because it has no effect on my experiences here in Pattaya (I did ask for directions in WS once a few weeks ago ,but neither of the uniformed "Officers" spoke English ), & as you are from Ohio , you know that Volunteers , Honorary Deputies, Part timers etc are used in many Counties , Cities & Villages throughout Ohio & many other States ,these personnel all have City &/or State Authorisation , Mandatory Training & Arrest Powers.

Translators are called in when required by each Agency as are others with expertise as needed.

    Different system here apparently.

Bob has answered my main question though & that is they have no Authority to effect an Arrest but they have the right to defend themselves against violent 'Men-Girls' & others , I am sure that applies to all of us.

Ohio State also mandates BLACK uniform shirts for Sheriffs Deputies , I cannot see what the problem is with Black personally , I always thought it was very practical.

  10. A moderator says go to a link , but, to view costs $7.99usd.............<deleted>..............connected?? :o

So basically almost 10% of the customers are using Drugs or supplying them , sounds like a classy place to go .....not!

    :D

  11. Interesting that the photos of the volunteers have been removed from the Tourist Police website. http://eng.pattayatouristpolice.com/html/os_eng.htm

Do the Thai (not Farang) volunteers have any police power?

That is one of the best questions asked over these incidents , IF they existed of course ?? or can we ask do ANY of the FARANG volunteers have any POLICE Powers???

    Niels ?? Howard ?? anyone else ??

    :o

  12. They're supposed to be nothing more than assistants to help with liaison and translation between the police and tourists. They are not supposed to get involved in any enforcement issues whether physical or verbal. If they get involved in a fracas they should be just as liable to arrest and prosecution as the other party.

I really am trying not to get involved in this but this is simply wrong. Let me try and spell this out with simple words that all will understand. I have explained this a number of times but people just don't seem to be able to understand.

WE ARE TOURIST POLICE ASSISTANTS, WHICH MEANS WE ASSIST THE TOURIST POLICE IN THEIR DUTIES. THESE DUTIES INCLUDE TOURIST INFORMATION, TOURIST COMPLAINTS, TRANSLATION CASES, MEDICAL PROBLEMS, ENFORCEMENT CASES.

WE CAN ASSIST THE THAI TOURIST POLICE WITH THE ARREST OF A FOREIGNER IF THEY ASK US TO DO IT. THESE ARE VERY RARE CASES BUT WE ALL WEAR POLICE ISSUED ID BADGES AND ARE AUTHORISED TO DO THIS. WE HAVE STRICT RULES OF ENGAGEMENT RELATING TO SUCH CASES AND IF WE OVERSTEP THE MARK WE WILL BE DEALT WITH IN ACCORDANCE WITH THAI LAW

WE ARE NOT JUST TRANSLATORS. WE ARE THERE TO PROTECT AND SERVE FOREIGN TOURISTS IN ANY WAY WE CAN. WE ARE ALL UNPAID, WE FUND OUR UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT OURSELVES. WHAT WE CARRY IS UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL FTPA. WHAT WE DO CARRY ALLOWS US TO UNDERTAKE OUR DUTY TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY. THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS I CARRY IS SURGICAL GLOVES.....I HAVE USED THESE ON MANY OCCASSIONS....THE OTHER ITEMS I PERSONALLY CARRY I RARELY USE.

    Howard

Does "overstep the mark' include paying Katoeys to drop complaints against off Duty Group Leaders ?? if that allegation is correct! ! ! [ ??

No axe to grind here , just an interested Officer from a different jurisdiction............fascinating

  13. If you truly fear so much for your safety in Pattaya maybe it's time you relocated , East Cleveland ? , East LA ?

Northbridge in Perth?, St.Kilda in Melbourne?, Chapeltown/Oldham in England?, Harare/Lagos?, Mexico?,

St Kilda is now a trendy suburb with some of the most expensive property in the country! A far cry from 30 years ago, BoJangles & the days of Mark "Chopper" Reid! :D

Didn't he retire to Bangkok and become a moderator on some web-site?

  14. Agrre with Jingthing , what a disaster on the Goulash i Soth patts..

BUT , recovered my faith at the Belgium Place adjacent to Soi Diana with a satisfying Belgium Goulash & the wife had the Bitterballen , she loved it & she is from Amsterdam, so it had to be OK.

The only thing that is concerning me at most of the decent Restaraunts as a Bacardi Drinker is the prices seem to have increased & 175 - 200 seems to be the norm , when a couple of months ago 105 - 120 was .??

Mostly Farang Senior Owners as well , so cannot blame the locals

    An observation.

  15. WE ARE NOT JUST TRANSLATORS. WE ARE THERE TO PROTECT AND SERVE FOREIGN TOURISTS IN ANY WAY WE CAN.

Cheers, run along and get me a vodka and coke then will you?

With sincere respect..............& for the 4th - 5th time on several posts are any of the Volunteers :-

    ....."POLICE" or are they CIVILIANS......??????

Over to you Howard & Niels & whoever else has a 'group' .........................a very simple Question . Is it not ????

Do they have any LEGISLATED POWERS as LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ..or .. only assist actual Police when asked , anyone & everyone can be asked ??

    Easy Question ....Easy Answer....
