  1. Came to Patts on a 2 month visa in December, looking to live here.(Already approved for Retirement Visa) Part of the reason for the trip is medical, had an abdominal operation here a couple of years ago & a complications arose , rectified at no cost by BPH. BUT, now have a problem of fluid in my abdominal cavity , but, it is being taken out (Aspirated) by needle every couple of days as an out patient.

Also left in Jan for a few days to KL to teach a class , came back & received a 30 day visa at the BKK airport.

Have had a couple of frustrating visits to Jomtien Immigration , in the fact that it has been so crowded , I never got attended to. Going back on Tuesday/Wednesday as my visa expires on 11th.Feb (Wed).

Did talk to a Farang Volunteer there last Friday (Blustery European very full of his own self) , I should say he talked AT me & told me I could get 7 days MAYBE 14 , this was after I showed him a Medical Cert. in English & Thai stating I was required to stay another TWO months for further treatment.

Suggestions please & I can do without the wit , thanks folks.

    What do you mean>

.(Already approved for Retirement Visa) ?

Have you been give a Retirement Extension?

    Bill

We did not go ahead with the retirement visa & came on a 60 day one instead thinking to look around while all the unrest & uncertainy was on . Didn't think that buying a Condo & Vehicle was prudent right now.

Sent my wife back to Perth in January thinkink I might be another wek or so not another Month or two. She is flying back on Thursday & I believe she can get a 3 month Tourist visa on arrival.

  2. You can get an extension for medical care. It will be up to immigration and dependent on what medical certification says,

Oherwise all you will get is 7 days,

2.25 In the case of medical treatment or convalescence or to look after a patient: Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 90 days at a time.

    (1) Confirmation and request has been made by a physician responsible for the treatment. The Physician must describe the details of treatment and advised that the illness is a barrier for travelling.

    Thank You

  4. Apart from the Cobra exercises they have personnel permantently in Thailand , what's the problem.??

If it wasn't for R & R ing here in the 60s , where would Patts be?? The original dirt roads were crap I can assure you. Cigarettes bought you a lot of favors . Equal to about 2,000bht to-day I would guess

Anyhow , Pattaya needs cash flush visitors right now , wouldn't you say!

  5. This has been discussed already a while ago and from what I remember the Tourist Police Volunteers hang around mostly in Walking Street and look quite martial.

The Foreign Police Volunteers have a desk at the police station in Soi 9 and help foreigners coming to the cop shop as first point of contact.

Both of them wear black uniforms which makes them a bit difficult to tell from each other, but the Soi 9 guys are lacking the truncheon.

You mean they're Katoeys who've had the operation??

Scarcasm is the lowest form of wit .BUT.......

    . :o:D

  6. It used to be fun , over the last 3 years or so in Pattaya it has become an excuse for thuggery & maniacal stupidity.

We always warn our acquaintenances & friends to avoid Pattaya during this time as it is just street CRAP & absolutely NOTHING to do with the "Water Festival"

  7. Howard & Neils,

Don't know either of you but irregardless of the hidden agenda commenters , & as a Law Enforcement & Se3curity pro of many decades experience , I know that there must be some sort of Training you go through.

Keep up the good work & although I have seen the FPVs many times over the years , I will make a point of saying "hello" before I leave LOS this time.

To the 'critics' , ever thought of giving your own time towards the Safety , Service & Protection of your own community??????

  8. Had to comment again......

Some of the remarks are childish in the extreme... I still teach Law Enforcement & Military Teams part time & travel a lot (By the way , I wear Black BDUs & Uniforms out doors & Blue & Black in the Classrooms for Interrogators).

I did not feel intimidated by the Ghurkas in Singapore Airport who walked between us with Machine Guns in company with a Military Policeman with one also as I was changing flights.

I did not feel intimidated by the LAX Airport Police on their Motor movers with .40cal pistols , Tasers,Dual Cuffs, expandable Batons,OC (pepper Spray) etc geared up on duty.

If you feel intimidated by Police Volunteers in Walking Street , there is something very wrong with your outlook . Don't go to San Diego , or any other Major cities in the USA , Police Volunteers are everywhere & a some of them have full Powers including carriage of weapons .

This post is going similar to the way a similar one went about a year or so ago.

If I had a business in walking Street , I would feel very good seeing the FPV on duty.

I have been to walking street many times over the years & the FPV certainly don't intimidate me , nor the other Aussie Tourists that have been with me there.

I suspect there a a few hidden agendas going on in this forum & some personal interactions that are beyond the spirit of the post.

  9. This article reads to me as if the "Journo" already had preconceived ideas & had his own agenda.

Volunteer Police , "Specials" , Appointed Deputies , Authoriused Officers ,Honoraries , etc. are used in most countries . What the hel_l is the big deal???

    Good on 'em.

I don't doubt for a minute there are some idiots amongst them , but, I can tell you from experience there are idiots in all organisations & you don't tar them all with the same brush.

    Good Guys wear Black anyhow.

  10. I agree , you must be using the ONLY currency that is NOT devalued against the Baht by an average of 30 - 35%.........Please tell us all what it is

I counted 9 Bars shut down permanently on one Baht Bus ride the other day ....BUT.. even when I extended my hotel stay by a month there was no drop in price. ( I am stuck for on going out patient minor medical treatment)

This is an expensive time to travel to Pattaya/Thailand.............

It will be interesting to see what happens when the Govt. here uses up their foreign currency for foreign debt & start using the Baht... :o

    :D

  11. I have many years (over 40) experience in Martial Arts & Weapon & Tactics Teaching , including OC (Pepper Spray) , there is an old but true adage "Don't take a knife to a Gunfight" .

You survived because of passive resistance , that isn't always the way it goes. But it usually save lives.

So , lets say , you have a guy pull a knife on you & you whip out your spray & then his partner whips out a gun ??? NEXT ????............

Carry the least amount in your wallet & a cheap phone. I am sure your child & family would rather have you than a corpse to ID!!

Free Advice from a Professional Consultant.................up to you.

  12. You said it ....I love my wife ...BUT??... why the hel_l are you married ???????

TRUST , INTEGRITY , Faithfullness , another language to you I guess , if you are real & the post is genuine , you sir , are a B....Y Idiot

Did you marry to prove something ???

Walk away & spare the girl. BUT watch your back & bank account

    :o

  13. I have to admit to finding this whole post baffling. If you have been here 10 years & don't know about the B------t re all pricing , then you must live in a cave on the darkest side.

It is Pattaya , watch the prices rise as the sales fall on most things , that is the local mentallity.

Picked up some brochures for property last week , the property ads have new stickers on the old pamphletts with increases ranging from 500,00 to 900,00bht per unit.

Reality takes a while in LOS , BUT, if you chose to live here ..

.WHAT THE hel_l ARE YOU BITHCHING ABOUT ????? Just think of where you left !!

    :o

  14. I wouldn't mind if they rode sports bikes but the Harleys and the like are annoyingly noisy and the riders seem to delight in making as much noise as possible around town. Maybe they should find a bike park for them outside of town and bring them in by Baht bus! :o

Most BOY RACERS I know with sports bikes have after market pipes on them. ( For after market read LOUD!!!! ) You know to squeeze that extra 7.5 mph out of them and so everybody knows they are coming.

Maybe we could also ship the whinging whining drunken tattooed yobs out to Hua Hin for the weekend so we dont spoil their town. :D

These people do a great deal for local charities and in all the meets I've ever been to I've NEVER seen the slightest bit of trouble. Get a life or go away for a weekend. I would imagine the Thais are looking forward to the custom in the present climate!

Oh and I dont ride a Harley I ride a Triumph ! :D OH and its not noisy! :D

I ride a Harley (not in Pattaya) a life member of H.O.G. attended Bike Rallys & Charity Rides for over 15 years until last year...what a buzz.& that included the locals wherever we were , not forgetting the $$$ raised for Orphans & other charities. LOUD Pipes save lives & you can always go away for the weekend & whine somewhere else.

Are we going to have a whinge about the Yabba Dealing , the Protection rackets for Farang Bars that pay more & more the more successful they are , the Drive by Shootings , the Paedophiles hiding out & operating in Patts , the violent chain swiping from peoples necks , the knifings , the suicides , ....???

    loud pipes & Bikies ..Oh My God...California , 1952.................Get a life!!!!!!!!!!

    :D

  15. I am here in Pattaya now since early December , also asked similar questions as we want to retire here. We have a comfortable income & live well in Perth with our own home & vehicle , but if I had to spend 500 Euro a week to live in Patts why the hel_l would I move??

That's about $1550.00aud weekly. We are spending less than a third of that & dining out 7 days a week & renting a Hotel room at Diana Gardens Resort with Buffet Breakfast & regular foot massages etc. No children or school fees etc.though.

But we don't even spend that in Perth & we are at the Vines Resort in the Wine/Swan Valley. Must be some serious shopping going on
