Hang on, she, UNHCR & Thai Gov't were originally saying she wanted to go to Australia, now all of a sudden,"left the building".... going to Canada!! All seems a bit dodgy!!
Might have seen reports regarding a Saudi footballer held in Bangkok prison trying to do similar refuge in Australia. His story seemed to be dragging out with less assistance from Australia than he originally hoped for. I dont know his full story but maybe she came to beleive Canada was a safer bet she could quickly realize. Australian news services reported that both Canada and Australia had sent ministers to Thailand and were in talks with the UN and the girl. Good luck young young lady at least now you have the freedom to determine your own future as is everybodies right.

I haven't been able to see the original yet, but could looking at the pixilated version still be a crime?! Or is it just copying and sharing that's the problem?
All but the naughty pixelated bits should be okay

Its all actually a very canny advert for *B612* (BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OF THE PHOTO) which is a LINE camera app for selfies. Guarantee the downloads went through the roof since the cops publicised it, haha

In a country where if the man leaves a lady she is often unable via the legal system receive maintenance payments from him one can relate to her wanting security
Planning for the future
as my ex said to me she will not look sexy forever. How shallow she was?
Plenty of older ugly guys out there willing to take what they can get
Therefore are monthly payments reasonable even if she works,
Making it "monthly" payments is lazy people. You are not buying a car or paying a mortgage.
Why not just share the costs as they arrive, sure the foreinger is probably more in a position to do a greater proportion. The extras you choose to bestow upon her beyond that surely are to show your respect, concern and love for her and the responsibilities to her family. If you are paying for the real expenses-utilities etc then that also helps to create a degree of trust that the money is going to a real need. Also, knowing that Thailand is and always has been a Matriarchy in social and domestic responsibility you will understand she hopes to increase her ability to provide for her family, parents etc back in the village. Learn this is part of Thai culture - you won't change it.These are real benefits for her in her relationship with you. She does not take them lightly. She is a realist in this sense.
or is it yet another reason why Thailand is 50 years behind the developed world?
Is it? The western manifestation of marriage seems to be when a woman gets married she then "owns" the man. Till death do we part. That notion seems to be the major stumbling block that destroys people and relationships. We all get one life. Don't give it away to someone else. Share it with someone else on your terms. And vice-versa for your partner. Western woman are indoctrinated from birth to grow up, have some fun , but be sure to snag a meal ticket where the guy pays. Thai -Bhuddist culture tends to indoctrinate " be the best "you' you can be , don't expect others to run your life, the harder you work - the luckier you get.
Maybe they are not 50 years behind - they just skipped 50 years of the bullshit.
One also has to have some sympathy if a lady is left with young children?
Here shows the worth of the man. If they are your offspring, you know your responsibilty. How you proceed from there, defines your mettle, and you have to live with that. The values you show on this point deny or confirm your overall feeling of fairness in this the OP's topic.
For me - I enjoy the best relationship of my life with my Thai wife. What she adds to my life is priceless.
I pay for the Toyota Pickup we bought. It gives me more freedom to get around when im there. I pay the rental on her Hair and Beauty Salon so she doesn't have to worry if business is slow and she can spent more time on the farm or selling flowers in the market. I pay the school fees and upkeep etc for her two boys from her previous marriage (her Thai ex skipped town 8 years before i met her). I take out as many of the expenses in her life as viable and she works her ass off to get the best income she can. When i do give her extra money she spends it on extra flowers to sell in the market. I think it is her way of earning everything she gets in life. She has no concept of such a thing as a "free-feed". The only successful way to pamper her is I have to take her out or take her shopping and buy her the things she would never spend money on if i gave it to her in cash. Maybe I am in a rare relationship but I don't think so. I have a number of friends whose relationships display many of these same signs and characteristics.
If this reply doesn't meet you approval all I can say is TIT (This is Thailand) get with the program or move on...haha.
Lets see if that stirs up a flurry of replies... I waiting for a Gong......

The guy in the article seems to be quite pragmatic about the situation. Has not called foul about it and is just working through the necessary steps to appease the authorities so they can move on. It only seems to be a few people on here that feel the need for another round of Thai bashing coz they got nothing positive in their lives. He made a mistake and now he is resolving it. Thats how life goes.

So having decided 50 Dams/reservoirs are already so close to maximumum...... would it not be sensible to drain some off early? The bottle neck always seems to be how much water can be alowed through Ayuthaya and the Choa Praya. Too much in one go and Bangkok is swimming. Get rid of what you can now. Or is this the annualSpring cleansing mechanism nobody talks about used to shift excrss garbage and clean out the Klongs and canals coz somebody spent that budget on submarines?

So ehat about attempts to trace the origin of the original email? I would think Google would be able to shed some light on that if asked nicely. Whether the account of the frrnchman was hacked or not therr would be a trail to follow. Also Google would be very eager to show thier Gmail platform as safe and secure? Seems to be more to this story than published here.

Congratulations. Nice piece of writing. Some here seemed lost but are obviously challenged by attention deficit disorder...lol. I'm a writer and recently a TEFL Teacher so have more than a passing interest in the English language. I think it was well written, well structured and supplied plenty of compulsion to read to the end. Different from some opinions it was clear of confusing terms or similes that might confuse a younger or less educated audience. Thanks for your contribution, enjoyed it immensely.

I worked at the previous embassy on South Sathorn Road which was a lovely building that seemed to fit into the environment very well. This new monstrosity looks more like Stalag 13 than an Embassy!
BTW when I worked there it was Australia's 4th largest Embassy world wide, mainly due to the AUSAID, DEETYA and AFP pesrsonnel.
I agree this is a butt ass ugly piece of architecture that should be hidden wedged between other structures. In this open setting its like a boil on a back side. The Sth Sthorn premises was actually very impressive. Often thought "so that's where my tax dollars go"
Thanks for explaining the enormous number of people in the photo. In all the times I went to the Sth Sathorn Building it was strange almost deserted in the public areas. Seemed to be more people as security outside the building than staff anywhere in sight. In the times I went there, once thought the gates and up to the main building, I think I saw one security guy screening us into the secure (fish tank) and one lady screening you on to the foyer. Then not a soul in sight all the way up the stairs to the second floor. Once there it was just as empty. You walked past the ticket machine coz you knew you were number one, haha. So then you stand and look around - no one to be seen. You wander over to the chairs near the booths and sit down to wait. A few minutes pass and you hear a noise. Out the corner of your eye, something moves. You walk over and peer into the booths along the opposite wall. They appear empty. Then the last one - there below counter height is an attendant shuffling papers. "Did you take a number?"

No need for any health and safety checks here. It's clearly annoyed spirits killing disrespectful tourists.
Life's great when you don't have to think or do anything.
The drawcard for many coming to Thailand can be the freedom to do things considered anb regulated to death elsewhere. Death by misadventure was a hazard i grew up with but has been almost hounded into extinction in the following generations. As the world followed the American trend of legal litigation and lawsuits it became more and more a beleif that someone else must responsible. Human history is punctuated by risk taking. It is how we continued to evolve to become the dominant species. Take that away and the race stagnates. Risk taking would likely be a big part of why so many farang come to Thailand.

As if Thai women actually need coaching in this artform? Give me a break!
I think one thing is clearly apparent. I love Thai people to death but one thing they never seemed strong on is when writing a good story you need to include "suspension of disbeleif" That coupled with the subjective liberties they often take with mathematics make you want to say "jing-jing?" Hahaha.

Swampy is one of my favourite airports, what with its beautiful architecture and low priced good quality food, everything is well laid out, modern and accessable, never had delays of any kind either arriving or departing.
Although, Im sure those that hate all things Thailand will be rushing to agree with this nonsense article.
Me too, does an amazing job in many areas. I have always enjoyed Changi, one of my favourite Airports. But I'm truly surprised Kuala Lumpur is not high on the poor list, especially for missed flights and connections, I try to avoid it at all costs. The least friendly atmosphere of any I have visited. I think people miss some things of real importance. Swampy does an amazing job handling volume travellers. Getting in or out of the airport is quite good compared to many. Yes, I have had delays there, but also in other airports that handled the increased volume during these disruptions a lot worse.
And yes I am biased, I actually love Thailand.

On 3/26/2017 at 9:58 AM, Laza 45 said:To me there is something about the Buddhist beliefs that permeates the Thai culture that makes living here much easier than living in a western country.. It starts with respect.. everywhere I go I am treated respectfully.. by all Thai people .. young and old.. male and female.. of course it is particularly gratifying to be treated respectfully by beautiful young ladies. I find that people here are less judgmental than people from western cultures perhaps because of the Buddhist view that we are all on our own journey and responsible for our own advancement. They may not condone a person's behavior but they view it as that person's problem.. not theirs. There is something in Thai culture too about relationships where a Thai woman has a clearly defined roll of taking care of her man and family. I think we can all be thankful that political correctness hasn't gone mad here as it has in western countries.
I am well aware of the exceptions to these perceptions and the craziness that goes on... perhaps I am just lucky but these are the things that make my life enjoyable here.
On 3/26/2017 at 11:00 AM, akirasan said:They don't all have borderline personality disorder which is already a huge advantage over Australian women.
Both Laza and Akirasan sum up my observations on the subject. Just add to that the fact that they are mostly very robust and believe in their self-worth. They are complete without needing others to make them so. Very self-confident, very self-reliant and understand that what they work for in life is what they will get from life. A bit different from Aussie woman who needs men to fawn over them, take pity on them and dote on them because they are a mere woman. Then make it your fault they have all these problems in their lives. I have a great deal of respect for Thai women and their strenght and resilience. Maybe they display many of the traits that women from other countries have been conditioned to beleive are the responsibilities of the male.

I think with that role call of Provinces we could get a better picture if they just listed the one or two left hi and dry...lol. But i guess that would have shortened the editorial to only one or two lines.

WOW! That pretty much sums up exactly how she is, i mean to a tee - except the skin part. Just wow!
Food is her comfort. I used to think that it’s just her personal weakness - an addiction like that of ppl i'd seen on t.v shows. Didn’t know the whole town was like that. Feel like there is a factory somewhere in the village where they install the same version personality chip in each one as soon as they are born.
I go along with Akirasan's list but with a variation. Item 4 about not being risk takers might be deceptive. The Isaan girls turn up worldwide at a ratio close to 3-1 of any other Thai girls. They are confident and complete in themselves. They need no support system to pick them up when they stumble. They DO love to gamble - seems a genetic affliction of eastern Thailand...lol Generally they love a beer, partial to dry red wine when introduced to it, and not too fussed about whiskey.
I speak from experience. My wife is an Isaan girl and one of the hardest working people i ever met.... I really mean that.
Oh and yes...generally a lot of them hate Bangkok. One day or two days is fine if shopping is involved, but then they are over it and ready to bolt.

So you think it's cool if i get arrested with 3kg cheese?
You would have it confiscated an destroyed if you tried to bring it into Australia. Not arrested but fined for not declaring it on your entry declaration. Then possibly interviewed to see what else you were hiding from authorities. Thaailand is generally very liberal with what they allow you to bring into the country compared to other nations.

Come on, no need to go there. US and AU are cool. We got the gun thing ingrained in our DNA (Unless your a Lib) so were a little different.
Im not sure what you are suggesting "US and AU"?
If you mean Australia by AU then there could not be a greater difference in gun ownership policy. Basically the average citizen finds it very hard to own a gun. All are licensed users. Hand guns are the domain of Police and security officers unless you are a active member of a gun club. Carrying a handgun on your person in public will get you rounded up and locked away. Often the weapon has to remain at the range, not to be taken home. Rifles, shotguns may be owned in rural situations for farmers etc to control vermin. All weapons in a household etc must be secured by regulation in a gun safe to specific standards. Maybe you were trying to infer something else that i missed?

Just checked Bangkok Air Samui-BKK tomorrow. Cheapest flight B4910, cheapest seat (promo ) on more desirable flights B8160, "Web Freedom" seats B12990.
Flew there late Nov before last. Cheapest flight were 4190bht. Wondered why it was so much dearer than Phuket at twice the distance till i was told Bangkok Air own and built the Terminal Facility on Samui and only a couple of other airlines were licensed to operate the route. Savvy business while the monopoly lasts...lol.

I watched the said Debate, I'm Australian not American by the way. But this current situation concerns me even though I generally spend little brainspace on politcal jousting. Seriousely the world would be a lot less stable with Donald Trump in such a position of power.

Phuket? Thanks! When you pick the Headline from ThaiVisa newsfeed email it does not tell you what forum the post comes from. The browser address does not in this instance. The first post seemed to be a reply rather than a question so i thought i had arrived part way through the story. Please take pity on us and introduce your subject so we are all on the same page. Only takes a few extra words. My 93 yr old mother has this same problem. She starts talking about a subject she has been thinking about for a while but nobody knows what the hell she is talking about. Where mother? When mother? Who mother?
LOL ... JUST A THOUGHT
not a real belly ache, been dealing with Mum for years like this so i should be used to it...haha
-
I used to wonder about this also, but as time went by I realised the truth of the statement. Consider for a moment this whole thread. Has your world changed through talking or debating the subject? Westerners often have their own statements as someone previously stated 'Que Sera sera" and also 'Actions speak louder than words'. Both could be used or substituted for 'Yak kid maag'. The phrase is not always used with the same sentiment, its subjective to the particular moment. Thais could/would also see the many debates on here as often pointless if it is only talk and no action. And they are probably right.
So chill out, that's why you are here in LOS...isnt it?
COVID-19: Half a million people visited Thailand from severely affected countries

Your math seems ok, and your statement "seemed deserted" would be a good description on your numbers. But whats your point? Thail reports arrivals each year in excess of 30 million for Swampy. That's 2 to 3 million a month on average. Surely any airport of similar capacity is going to look deserted running under quarter normal capacity.
