Third highest spenders in the world, spend more on shopping than on "experiences".
Take your xenophobic glasses off and welcome to the real world.
let's see the data on third highest spenders please... I would question the accuracy...

Except that for now, Thailand is playing it safe and is not allowing mega Chinese projects to be built in Thailand with just Chinese laborers and having hundreds of thousands of Chinese settlers make their home here. That is why this project has been delayed so long but why it's gone ahead with little opposition in Laos. Also see what's happening in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, and soon Ream national park and Koh Kong. Also, Shwe Koko in Myanmar along the Thai border. Big things happening in all three countries, particularly Cambodia and Myanmar. If Thailand sells itself out to China I don't think the Thai people will be as receptive as citizens of these three countries have been.
yes but since when has the official agenda been about the thai people... wake up and smell the roses not using rose colored glasses... thailand has already capitulated....

Just now, rumak said:Yes, but a LOT LESS than they would in almost any western country. Its all relative..... i have learned
not to complain when the oil change and tune up costs me 175 baht on my motorcycle. Should i make a face and say that two years ago it cost me 160 baht ? I smile and think how bloody cheap things are here compared to US or Canada.
That is not the point. What if a thai received the oil change and you see his bill is 150 and yours is 300 would you roll over and be happy?

Be careful if you tell the truth you’ll be accused of nationalism and racism.
People need to say what is the truth and not be intimidated by others with an agenda. Yes Indian hygiene can be improved for sure but it shouls also be evident that Thailand is not getting the more sophisticated upwardly mobile Indian tourists. Let's remember these are Indians who are lured here by TAT often on the basis of super cheap holidays.

I worked and lived in India for couple of years. The statistic at the time was that 25% of the 1.4 billion population didn't have access to a toilet. They were therefore forced to defecate and unrinate in the street, on pavements, doorways, fields, parks or where ever they could!
I remember the local MD's secretary saying she had to leave on time Wednesday because that was bath night! They openly said all the secretaries wore flowers in their hair every day to mask the body odor smells! Running water is a luxury there.
Not the fault of the people, they make the best with what they've got. But, it creates habits. Personal hygiene and sanitary conditions isn't high on their priorities!
Yes they have a huge problem with lack of toilets and women being raped. In fact I watched a documentary and the Indian women cannot go take a dump at night for fear of being raped so they hold it until the next day and do it on the way to work...sad country. They need to fix these things and that ridiculously stupid caste system.

However, it's a small victory. China will next employ its tracking system and facial recognition system and use snooping much like the NSA to find those protesters. It will simply add the extradition bill at a later date.

Cheeseman needs to stick to making cheeses. Worst journalist ever. Talk about fake.
But the name is very appropriate as his stories have more holes in them than a block of swiss cheese.

It's pretty simple what did he do wrong? He didn't pay an agent to take care of it. How long has he been here and he doesn't see how it works?

I guess dual pricing may help that argument , from entering a park to a taxi motorbike!
I haven't seen a lot of dual pricing with motorbikes in my experience the low life taxi mafia screws thais as well as farang... but I have also seen honest motorbike taxi fares in Bangkok but never in Pattaya...

This is the second post in 2 days where a person was "almost denied" but bribed the IO to get in. In the last 6 months I read every "almost/denied entry" post and have never heard 1 poster mention any bribes. New trend or something else happening here?
You are right how can this be? Thailand taking bribes? Impossible I say...

I guess it depends on how that franchise is operating.???? And their balance sheet.

It's a money maker to pay for bureaucratic make work (ie, job security for bureaucrats - look how busy I am).
If there is indeed a national security benefit, I doubt that it is appreciable or cost effective.
cost effective in someone's pocket maybe...

Don't believe any statistics which you haven't forged yourself
These numbers come from http://www.atta.or.th/ and this is the number of visitors who used services of their members (travel agencies)
So this only includes people using some kind of travel agency for coming to Thailand.
Westerners visiting Thailand usually book their own flight and accomodation and don't use a travel agency so their share in this statistic will be much smaller than it actually is
These stats may very well include something as simple as going through the airport as Bkok has become an international hub. It also likely includes all land crossings so for instance the poipet border is crossed by a cambodian buying noodles and guess what he is now a tourist lol. Let's see the data in depth but that likely will never happen.

China is conducting a different kind of warfare and is in the process of already taking Thailand a few American vehicles make no difference.
I suggest all watch this. It is basically right on except for the overzealous part of clearing out the south china sea so quickly.

Most of these expenditures would never occur if it were not for huge kickbacks same as all the misappropriated road funds, etc.
