  1. Further to skatewash's comment above, I can confirm that it is possible to make an appointment using the Mor Prom app.

My wife registered me for an appointment using the Mor Prom app on LINE, and my Government 13-digit ID number contained in my Yellow House Book.  It took a few tries and a little perseverance but she got there in the end. I now have a confirmed appointment for a jab in 5 weeks time on the 8th June 2021.

  2. I have to report to Kap Cheown and I tried several times a few days ago to report on-line but without success. Never got past Step 1 even though I had all the information to hand and filled in all the blocks. I am computer literate, or at least I think I am. I too got the same message to contact Immigration. Reading this thread I feel the problem may well be my entry permit number is not recognised by the system. It is dated 31 December 2002, some 13 years ago, and I have not left the country since. Oh well, a quick trip to Immigration next week and I'll ask the question then. Always a pleasant drive from Surin in the morning sunshine.

  3. Look out! If you have not traveled to Isaan before or after the Thai New Year be warned. Expect long traffic delays. A 6 hour journey can easily take 18 hours. I have to travel Bangkok to Surin on Friday, 10th April. I fully expect this to be the busiest day for the exodus from Bangkok and for the road to be fully loaded with holiday traffic. Rather than face a lengthy delay by road I have decided to fly from Bangkok to Buriram (Satuk). I also expect long delays on both Saturday and Sunday. After the holidays I would think 15th April will be the worst and 16th and 17th to be busier than usual with everyone returning to Bangkok and Chonburi. Apart from numerous Police Checkpoints I would think the roads would be relatively quiet for your return journey on either 13th or 14th April.

  4. I heard the following on the UK News last night. It seems 85% of people do not know that when taken as a lump sum only 25% of your pension fund is tax free. The other 75% is taxable income and tax will deducted at the appropriate rate. It may also push your income into the higher tax band. Before you cash in you pension you should fully understand the implications of the tax rules and how much tax you will be liable to pay.

  5. Take it from me, regardless of the population count, down town traffic is bad. During peak hours, morning and afternoon, the congestion is so bad that the town almost becomes gridlocked. And, if there is a torrential downpour too you might just as well leave your car at home and walk it.

  6. Bought a pair of ECCO shoes last week in Central, Bangkok. The ECCO shop is on the first floor (ground floor + 1). They have a 30% sale at the moment. Lovely shoes.

  7. Can't help with the End-Dex 5000 but I do sympathise with what you are going through. I have a 3-year old Golden Labrador and she started getting ticks about three weeks ago. I gave her a shampoo, tick powder, Frontline and spent hours and hours combing and removing ticks by hand. I also spread powder on the ground around her sleeping area to kill off any attacks by land. I thought I had cracked the problem but had to leave her while I went away for a couple of days. I returned 3 days later and she was covered all over again. Aaaah! In the past Frontline has worked very well but this time around the ticks seems to be enjoying the feast not dropping like they have done in the past. If I cannot get on top of the problem in the next couple of days by daily grooming, shampoo and shower then I think I will take her to the vets for an injection.

  8. In Surin, the 'aircon man' that we have used for many years only charges 2,500 Baht to move the aircon from one room to another, or, from one house to another. A significant part of the cost is recharging the units with refrigerant (gas). And that price includes filling in the holes left in the wall when the old aircon is removed. smile.png

  9. You'll be lucky, my family are already recycling everything we do not want, even the second hand tissue paper. Only joking. It has been a standard rule ever since my marriage nearly 11 years ago, anything that is past it's sell buy date goes to the village. I would be charged with treason if I were to try and give anything away to anyone else. Its more than my life is worth.smile.png

  10. I can confirm a bank statement or copy of the bank book is now required, at least at Kap Choeng, Surin. I extended my visa based on retirement a couple of days ago and used the letter from the British Embassy to confirm income. I took with me a bank a statement for the past year. Bangkok Bank charge 200 THB for this service and it takes 3 or 4 working days to obtain. I understand a copy of the bank book will suffice if it is maintained up to date. I was not asked to show my bank book in addition to the annual bank statement.

The senior immigration officer looked at my paperwork with a big smile on her face and asked how I knew she would require a copy of the bank statement or bank book. She said it was a relatively new requirement and several people had been upset when they had been turned away and asked to furnish additional proof of funding to support the embassy letter. My visa extension was duly granted without any problems.

  11. I have been with True Online for over a year (15/1.5 MBPS) and recently received a free upgraded to this package. Before I was getting somewhere around 20/1.5 MBPS. The connection is very stable with very few interruptions or down times. However, the speed advertised is on the low side. In reality, I consistently get above 30 MBPS and somewhere around 40 MBPS down with over 3 MBPS up. The ping rate is usually betrween 12 - 14 MS. Just now the speed test showed 45.69 MBPS down! I'm very happy with the connection thank you.

  12. I was awakened from my sleep last night by the sound of the diesel-engined locomotive passing through Surin. What has this to do with a shortage of water you may ask? Where I live south of the tracks, I never hear the train during the long, wet summer months. I only hear the train during the dry winter months when the wind is coming from a northerly direction. It has always been a good indicator in the past so I can now announce, with some certainty, that the dry, cool winter months are just around the corner. Another sure sign that the climate is about to change is the appearance of lots of colourful kites for sale by the side of the road. The northerly winds are here again. I fear that what water is in the resevoirs and lakes is all you are likely to have until the rains come around again next year. Fortunately, Surin had good rains this summer and the lakes and resevoirs are full. The predicted drought next year, caused by the El Nino effect, could hit affect many parts of Thailand quite hard, especially in those areas already experiencing drought this year.

  13. I feel really sorry for a lot of the younger Thai's who must have the latest I-phone. Most live in the villages and do not even have internet access. Most buy their expensive trinket on finance too.

In contrast, my Samsung mobile can contact most people I want to speak to, receive calls and even has an alarm clock built in. The battery is usually good for a couple of weeks without a charge too. Okay, it's not a 'smart phone' and it cannot access the internet. Nor can I send lines or play 'cookie run'. But at 700 Baht I think its a snip.

  14. For what it is worth, I took a leap of faith last year and subscribed for the 3-year package with CTH - about 23,000 baht for the 3 year period - 590 baht/month. I did this because I wanted the 6 dedicated HD channels covering the Barclays Premier League and the Fox Sports cover of F1 and MOTOGP. Now CTH has excellent cover of most sports, the only noticeable exception is International and 6 Nations Rugby Union. Fox Sports have recently revamped their package and there are now 3 dedicated HD channels; Fox Sports, Fox Sports 2 and Fox Sports 3. They have a number of excellent entertainment channels too, including Fox Premium Films HD and Fox Crime HD and 3 HD National Geographic channels. I get some interuptions to the satellite signal but it is minor. Unfortunately, I am outside the footprint for the cable service. Without a shadow of a doubt, it was the best money I have spent in a long time. And nothing more to pay until the summer of 2016.

Previously, I was a Platinum subscriber to True Visions for over 8 years and I was paying in excess of 2,300 baht/month. In comparison to what is on offer from CTH, True Visions is very expensive for what is a mediocre choice of programmes . From what I can see the programmes they offer today are no better than they were a year ago and they charge more too. You pays your money and you make your own choice.

  15. I too saw the advertisement for 30 MBPS down, 3 MBPS up,and 132 channels. My current package with True Online is for 15 MBPS down and 1.5 MBPS up and 100 channels. In reality the speed is 20 MBPS down and 2 MBPS up. My wife enquired about the upgrade for the new deal at the same price. She was told that she would not get 30 MBPS and would have to forfeit and downgrade to 12 MBPS down, 1 MBPS up to change over. I do not understand the reasons given and I decided to stay with what I already have.
