  1. there is a store on the upper level of the Outlet mall, on the side close to Tepprasit boulevard. there is also a store inside the Royal Garden shopping facility adjacent to the b2S book store on the3rd floor, across from the escalators on the side of the mall closest to the beach, more or less "kitty corner" to the benihani of New York japanese restaurant. i know what a medicine ball is, as i have been using one as a foot ottoman for almost 50 years. i would like to express good luck in this endeavor and i hope there will be no snide remarks to follow.

  2. if you don't want to insult your customers, dont charge a corkage fee. if everyone was together on this, and when told of a corkage fee simply walked out of the restaurant, this policy would stop.

i have seen like at someones birthday party where they will bring in a big birthday cake of their own which deprives the restaurant from selling desserts which might be real profitable. should they charge a "cake fee" for those that do that?

i wouldnt mind it the restaurant had a clear policy of 'no outside food or drink". that would not insult me if disclosed in advance.

and whats next: if you use your cell phone in the restaurant instead of their pay phone, should you pay them a cut? where does it stop?

  3. dont speak for me jaansinatra,as i find you a brick short of a load if you khaojai that.

    i believe i can speak for you. the "Op" clearly doesn't understand humor nor do they understand what most people reading on this forum would consider to be clever funny or witty;

yakov smirnoff was funny. that comedian i think his name is Rip Torn that throws the confetti around, he is funny. very cutting edge material. carrot top: very clever cutting edge "now" material. for the op to think it's funny that there is a Sizzler or macdonalds in an ancient thai floating village is so yesterday. it is so five minutes ago. no wonder they cancelled that Jersey Seinfeld show; coudlln't get ratings. i wonder why. because no one watched it cause it was so yesterday.

i was the presdient of my homeowners association some years ago and there was this lady in the hybiscus phase that thought she was "all that". whenver i had to go to her 6,000 square foot house (mine had 8,400 square feet), she was always watching the t.v. with that observational Seinfeld show on. just not funny. like the op's observation. just not funny.

if you've ever seen the bit Bob Hope did with the dog in the dentist's office chair, you know what funny really is.

  4. I think that was me you ran into. but as you can see everyone here is very serious and i think i can speak for everyone here, we dont "get" that Jersey Seinfeld guy type of so called humor. now bob Hope was funny. Bob Newheart was a scream. your humor in your OP has eluded everyone. we dont "get it".

it reminds me of that radio guy, i forget hhis name that tells jokes about women with a split lip being thrown down a flight of stairs, and that is comedy. just what is so funny about a KFC in an ancient thai culture floating village? please explain the humor to me.

  5. it's going to be somewhere near that theatre Algonkarn. and it's going to be a very serious attraction where KFC , starbucks and even the Pizza Company will coexist and blend nicely with the ancient thai floating market culture, something which isnt very funny.

and just to spite the OP i hope they find a way to incorporate into their floating market things like a floating MailBoxes etc., a floating Mr. Natee key maker, and maybe an airconditioned floating section, with possibly a floating BIG C.

and if there's room, how about a floating Canon service center, which pattaya currently lacks.

  6. i also want to add to this posting with no humor, that it also reminds me of a situation in was in recently. this was a person who was abusing the free sample policy at Baskin Robbins at the carfour location. i was standing in line behind this person who asked for 3 different samples; and i had to wait for them to taste each one and reflect if it would be the one they eventually oredered and paid for.

finally this person, this "sample abuser" asked to taste the banana flavor. so i said "gee, i wonder what the banana flavor will taste like: will it taste like, hummmmmmmm, maybe it will taste like, hummmmmmm: banana?????" and this person then tasted it and just ordered a vanilla cup to go. a humorless situation, much the same as your post has no humor.

is your humor like that american comedian, i think his name is Jackie Seinfeld? is that the humor of today that i don't get?

  7. Is this an attempt at humor? I believe that replica looks reasonably accurate and will serve the community quite well. Bangkok has their floating market, now we will have ours. What is so funny about that? are you suggestiong the Pattaya People publication was incorrect in their description of this future "A" list attraction? OK, so the ancient Thai cultures may not have had KFC and Starbucks, and what appears to be "The Pizza COmpany", but is this some kind of new humor that I don't get?

it reminds me of an american woman I once saw in paris making a scene in a de-luxe hotel lobby, announcing they were Americans, and needed "Mi-dol", for some cramping that was going on, and something about a big flow day. and i couldn't tell if they were trying to be funny, or they were just ill mannered tourists.

i find no humor in this posting. and people often tell me i'm a good judge of what is funny. this is now funny at all. i downloaded your attached picture and found it very informative. no humor at all. and people tell me I'm very "now", very "with it". i wear Juicy Couture and Ann taylor outfits, so I' am very "now" butyoure posting just wasn't funny.

  8. 1. yes i believe they set out to steal from me, or they would have been apologetic about the theft they attempted.

I can see it already. Socially challenged and inexperienced farang with with no knowledge of the language and even less culturally aware shows anger and rudeness when confronted with routine shopping challenge in an alien environment.

    2. i signed a document in thai because i had already invested too much time. i'm still quite certain it's simply a delivery acknowledgment and not an acknowledment that i had inspected every centimeter of the piece, inside the out, above and below, every joint, etc.

Signs a piece of paper without having a clue of what it says because he wants to appear as all-knowing and clever rather than the new, scared and not very bright farang that he really is.

    3. i know very well what my credit card policy is. i 'm sorry your policy isn't as good as mine is.

Has even less awareness of his legal commitments as party to the contract he has signed with his credit card company.

    4. no comment needed. you've dug a deep enough hole for yourself.

"Never argue with a fool . . . . .they'll bring you down to their level and beat you every time with their experience . . . . "

regarding #4-- so why did you bother to respond if you're so much smarter and call call others more clever than you "fools"?

now who looks like the fool?

  9. JAFN!

Item 1: Where, in the store employees actions that you have described, is there any evidence of clear intent to overcharge you?

Item 2: Is there any store anywhere in the world where there is a separate sign-off for 'Received' versus 'Inspected'?

Item 3: As already pointed out, at this point in time you have committed a fraud.

Item 4: Maybe we have another criminal moving in to Pattaya?

    As I said before, JAFN.

    Dear JAFN,

    1. price rung up almost 50% higher, took over an hour just to get my money back. their attitude was that I was a crook. offered nothing for the inconvenience of helping train them to sort out their theiving.

Oh now they have an attitude and made out like you were the crook. In your opening post you commented that the service here in Thailand probably isn't like Home Depot or B&Q and then get all surprised, indignant and stroppy when it turns out to be just that way. Do you honestly think that this store or it's staff set out to steal from you?

    2. absolutely. their delivery document is all in Thai so i really don't know nor can be held accountable for what i'm signing.

Well bugger me JAFN, you are in Thailand after all but if you wish to stretch your rather thin point, why did you sign something you didn't understand?

    3. my credit card company allows me to dispute charges when I don't get what is promised. where is the fraud? just because i take advantage and am smart enough to choose a credit card that offers this policy/service, you think I am a fraud? perhaps you're jealolus your card doesn't offer that to you.

Your credit card is like most others allows you dispute illegitimate charges. However, like most others, they will take a pretty dim view of you claiming a refund AND keeping the merchandise. That's not clever, that's theft.

    4. yes, and most likely those that accuse others of being frauds, with no evidence, and more likely the ones that could be charged with slander and libel.

Hey JAFN, the evidence is already here, written by your oh so clever self. Keep on digging your hole but I would read the small print on both your credit card agreement AND get a translation of that delivery note you signed.

    Enjoy your (short) stay here.

  10. Hi

Does anyone know where a decent place to buy window blinds/venetian blinds/curtains etc. in Pattaya?

I have searched the internet but have only found a couple of places.

I dont want to pay th eearth but want them to look good.

My architect quited me 120,000bt!!!! I politely changed teh subject!!!

Any help, web addresses are gtreatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

I think it's called TCP Curtains, on Tepprasit Road on the Sattahip direction side of the street, about 600 meters from Theppraya Road. probably not the cheapest but they were good and quickly gave a free replacement on one that wasn't done right. still highly recommended.

  12. too bad no one got the point that when things go well, homeworks was fine. but when things go wrong, you will quickly see what i mean.

one thing they did was when an item scanned the wrong price, (almost 50% higher), it took an hour to sort it out. after an hour of meetings, discussions, more meetings, more discussions, their attitude was "oh ok, we will give you the difference back". so i was supposed to feel happy i paid the price marked and advertised. in other words, they expected me the customer to expect to be overcharged.

another thing they did was deliver a piece of furniture they assembled at their store, to my condo. i signed that i received it, not that i had inspected it, but only i had received it. two minutes later, after the delivery people left, i noticed some concealed damage on the underside of a shelf. eventhough i called them two minutes after they left, they accused me of doing the damage. now they want me to wait home all day for them to come and pick it up, then i'm to come to the store, probably waste an hour, get a refund. then i'm suppsoed to go back exactly ten days later, pay again, then wait for them to deliver it again. and my proposed compensation for all this was the prospect of a free burlap bag of some sort which i refused.

a faster route was to simply dispute the charge with my credit card company, which i already did, got a full credit for the item, which will turn into a permanent credit in about 30 days, because my credit card has a policy that they guarantee i will get what i pay for. so i'll get to keep the junky furniture and get my money back too.

that is how to deal with crooks. and their assembly person that put it together surely noticed it was broken, but he still delivered it, probably cause he didn't want to get blamed for breaking it. so when they get the chargeback from my credit card company that explains the reason, maybe they will have a talk with their incompetant assembly person that caused me grief and time.

  13. Reasonable people know that service in thailand may not live up to western standards we might get in our home country, but Homeworks Pattaya has set new lows for bad service. For a place so highly staffed, with lots of English speakers around,in my opinion they are the worst possible store to do business with. when things are going well, they are fine. but god forbid something is wrong with your purchase, you can forget about getting any help.

your only recourse will be to dispute the charge with your credit card company back home. if you paid cash, you're out of luck. i'm not going to go into any detail of what they did, but i will never consider spending 1 baht in that store again, and i would strongly encourage others to think twice before going there.

i have to rate stores based on how they treat people under bad circumstances. Homeworks Pattaya receives an F minus grade.

Boonthavorn seems to be the best in town but they don't carry everything.

If you're in doubt, I would suggest avoiding Homeworks pPattaya.

  14. I have to agree that it seems like the local government has a policy of doing whatever they possibly can to discourage any tourist from coming to Pattaya. from arresting foreigners for no apparent reason, not doing anything about the shady types that opeerate here, no consumer protection, early closing times, garbage on the streets, unsafe streets, not cracking down on dangerous drivers/motorbikes, and on and on.

I have been coming to Pattaya a long time and i have never seen such poor business conditions. Closures all over the place. farangs scared to start businesses, farangs scared to patronize businesses etc.

They have created a recipe for a huge crime rise in the future. And a lot of farangs come to Pattaya to drink and for sex, and the crackdowns will drive people to other more tourist friendly countries.

The only thing that will save Pattaya and Thailand in general is if the large corporations that rely on foreigners for much of their business (big supermarket companies, Homeworks, HomePro, Carrefour, Big C, Tesco, Thai Airways, all hotel companies, etc.), will put pressure, big pressure on the government to tone it down on attacking foreigners that support the economy here.

  15. can someone please explain how the 30 day entry rules work, "within 6 months".

am i allowed to get as many 30 day entries as i want, maximum 90 days total stay inside Thailand, within a 6 month period?

how is the 6 month period calculated? is it six months prior to the date I'm entering Thailand?

Can someone suggest a link to a thread that explains how that works?

    thank you!!
