Well i agree about Nopharatara but unfortunately if the tourists are there, along will come the business's.
Lets just hope the shop houses don't turn up on Nopharatara beach road. Hopefully the land is too expensive, and the owners don't like shop houses.

i agree with you 100%
Those reasons you gave for coming here are the exact reasons i'm here too.
and same goes for the annoyances.
They really need to sort out the stinking rubbish bins on the beach road though

you're right i did make it up about my handicap, just to impress.
But there are some great thai restaurants in Ao Nang, and also there are some dreadful ones.
Ao Nang is now a tourist destination...what do you expect.
There are also plenty of westerners here that work, socialize and add to the thai community......
Here's one for you ...
If you could get rid of one thing in Ao Nang....what would it be???
easy matt, farangs who want to change ao-nang,into their own country,
here's one for you....
i came to thailand(ao-nang) for the weather, food, smiling happy people and to join in the thai way of life,at least as much as a farang can. somethings i do not like e.g driving on the roads, police, corruption, etc but these are not for me to change, that's for the thai's to do.
i left the uk ,fed up with it's yob culture, supporting a benifit system that seems to reward cheats and lastly having to listen to foreigners wanting to undermine the remaining english culture,so why would i try to change thailand.
matt, can you please tell me why did you come to live in thailand, and not remain in you'r own country

No time for bar reports....got too many "FARANG" burger joints to visit now
As for the handicap.....almost down to single figures
-
Its not difficult to find good, cheap, local thai food in ao nang you muppett.
....and if you don't like the Farang restaurants in ao nang , no one is forcing you to stay.
-
yeah, you definately looked in the wrong place for a good burger.
I don't know anywhere here that does a good burger. Pams english pub/bar is the best i know.
-
yes the Salatalay is superb, i would say one of the best resorts in Ao Nang, and well away from all the busy main drag.
-
Here you go Huggy....Best Western Baan Ao Nang is the poor one, near the beach with the restaurant underneath
Best western Ao Nang Bay Resort and Spa is the better one up the hill, a little bit more expensive but in a different league.
My folks stayed in the Baan Ao Nang in 2007 and were quite happy with it.However they stayed in it in 2008 and were very disapointed. Pretty much the same comments as were posted earlier.

You say you want to stop working. If as the director of your own company you never sign any company document, cheque, etc when you are in Thailand, you do not need a work permit.
You are looking at the cost side of your work permit and I assume that you are comparing the costs related to the work permit with the costs of getting visas and doing border runs when you no longer have an annual extension for employment.

correct.. i don't mind paying for via runs etc as it is an excuse to have a holiday and check out some places. But to waste the same money on tax etc is just crazy.....right?
I am the only person that can sign within the company ...but its all cash anyway...so <deleted>....

I don't understand "pay 3000B for the same"
Are you saying i'm paying too much?
my accountancy fees are 2000B per month and the rest is Tax(witholding tax , company tax, personal income tax.....etc)
-
From what i can gather through talking to many people who have built, the key is a good project manager.
The builders in thailand can do a good job....... IF..... they are watched 24hrs a day.
When i say project manager, i mean someone who will be on site and can talk with the workers, not just in their own language, but in the correct way. If you piss them off, they just leave the site.
-
Yes, but the taxes alone plus accountant fees etc add up to 9000B per month.
Not a lot, but still a waste. Hence the topic "Is it worth having a work permit?"
-
No, not shutting the business or the company.....just don't want to work anymore.
The business runs itself without me, just need 2 staff. So it seems crazy for me to drain all the money (50k Baht) every month from the company.
I am tryin to work out if i really do need a work permit or not.......
-
One of the major reasons to give it up is that i have to employ 4 staff, train one of them, pay myself 50,000B salary and then pay all the taxes on top.
Headache considering i am not wanting to work.

I am a director of my company and have a work permit.
I have decided i don't want to work anymore so am going to give up the permit. Is there any reason to keep it if i am not working.
For example, do i need a work permit to own my car in my name? when i bought it they asked for a copy of it.
My golf membership asked to see my permit when i joined.Does anyone have any other uses for a work permit?

[i can pick up Blue Wave i think its called from Phuket on 90.5 ....or somehere close to it.
Not bad but sometimes they play some really bad 80's smooth jazz. But what ever floats yer boat. They have BBC news and some quite good "whats On" in Phuket programms.
-
Khao Sok is a HUGE area, so it depends where you are heading. If you are going up past Khao Lak then it is probably slightly quicker from Phuket, much not that much. However it is only about 2 hours from Krabi, and it is a much more stunning drive from Krabi. Phang Nga has some amazing scenery and i would definately recomend driving through.
Its no way 4 hours from Krabi.

The airport taxi price IS expensive, but it is a fixed price and you HAVE to use the airport taxi. No other taxis are allowed to pick up......unless you have a private booking like Mr Lob said about asiareservation. This means you don't get ripped off i guess but it's still not that cheap.

The ugliest clothes in the world.....like your profile picture. Huggy Bear wasn't in Caddy Shack was he?
-
well eddie, you must be a better golfer (...... or drinker) than me. Golf and Hangovers are a really BAD combination
-
Well...thats a great idea, but (1) Huggy will disagree with everything and (2) how on earth am i gonna get my handicap down if i spend all day drinking and reviewing bars.
and "bar boy" of Ao Nang....I'll leave that to Samui Nick....

Yes Huggy English is my first language...but a few months ago, you didn't know where Centara was
Whats RCA anyway?
i'm very bored, which is why i luv having a pop at huggy......nothing personal Huggy
Transport From Krabi Airport To Sofitel Krabi
in Krabi
Posted
There are taxis from the airport and are all a fixed price depending on destination.
Ao Nang is 600B i think, but Klong Muang will be more i guess.
You can get a cheaper taxi by pre booking and there is a thread about this already.
Try asiareservations.net as they have been recommended by a few people.
