  1. My interpretation (thanks Issan Legal) for those on a non O-A visa ( for the purposes of retirement) is very little change.

After you get a non O-A in your home country, if you play your cards right there is no need to apply for an extension until just before the end of the second year of your O-A.

At this time, previously you needed 800k in a Thai bank for 3 months prior to the extension application (or pension, or combination). Now it seems the 800k must be in the Thai bank for 60 days for the first extension application, and 3 months for every year after that.

If my interpretation is correct, this is in fact a slight relaxation of the current policy, which requires 800k for 3 months prior to the first extension application.

I am happy to be corrected, given that my interpretation has been Leo-assisted :o

You should also be aware that if you have an income from your home country and use this as part of the 800K retirement visa requirement ( for most folks their pension is usually not enough to meet the 800K PA figure unless you have a very good pension indeed and especially now with the weak pound) then you only need the balance in your Thai bank account on the day you renew your annual OA Visa (retirement). This has not changed and is often misquoted and confused with when you use 800K banked money exclusively when the 60 or 90 day ruling does apply. i.e. if you have say a pension from your home country that equates to 500K Baht p.a. ( a fairly average pension for a UK retiree) then you also need to show 300K Baht in your Thai bank account just on the day you extend your visa there is absolutely no 60 day or 90 day requirement in such a case. I know this is fact as I do not keep too much here in Baht and my income is about 530K pa (was about 650K a short while back when the pound was strong) so I transfer some of my capital from my UK bank account just a week or two before my visa extension is due so my annual pension and Thai bank account add up to over 800K Baht. This has never been a problem and is a fact as confirmed by my local Thai immigration office too. So anyone with a pension (and certainly all UK citizens over 65 on a state pension) can do it this way you just need the usual letter from the UK Consular office here to confirm your pension after you show them the proof. The money I transfer over at the annual visa renewal time I can then use afterwards to make annual household purchases or for my next few months living costs so very easy and friendly. If you can meet the fairly straight forward immigration laws here it is really not a problem and very user friendly, so anyone planning on living here on a "permanent" temporary basis should check the rules carefully beforehand and ensure they can comply.

so if i am reading everything correctly them we have no problem at all.

we are a family of 3 dutchman (me my husband and our doughter) not 50 or older( and not work here). and have a income from netherland of 80.000-90.000 bath a month (depent of the euro versus bath). every year we fly to netherland for our visa and we go every 90 days to the border.

  2. I will be buying a GPS unit in a month when I pick up my new car. A friend has offered getting me a MIO unit at trade price. Its about the same price as the budget Garmin but has all the functions of a top end unit. EG wide screen/MP3Photo album/Bluetooth and many more. I saw them for sale at Pantip plaza and they looked good, but a GPRS is only as good as the mapping system inside !

I understand they are made in Taiwan & its a Belgium company who are 3rd biggest in Europe! I'm from London and never seen any in England, so was wondering has anyone out there got one and 'first hand' opinions good or bad would be appreciated

    Thank you

  4. ok i want to order dutch food from netherland and i got already far. but now the biggist problem is the following.

up to 20kilo costs 99.90 euro only sending. i also found a shippingadres, but here they ask 250 euro for 1 kubik meter.in 1 kubik meter fits 8 package in.so i figgered out that if 7 people joint it only cost 32 euro per person for sending and the kilo's don't matter to mutch anymore. then you can order your own box (size 50x50x50). and you can fill it with what kind of produkt you want. my friend from netherland offers to make the boxes and do the shopping, she only aske petrolmoney to bring it to the harbor.

in this way we can order what we want for the dutch prices!!!!!look for example on www.realdutchfood.com .

i hope i wil find 7 other people.

    Hollandse nieuwe?

    Just about got that :o

I think even by air they'd be a bit, er, ''ripe''. No idea when I'll be back in Schreveningen, so I'll just have to keep dreaming I suppose ...

okay i explane my meaning again, becourse a lot of people misunderstand.

i look for 3-7 people who want to share the costs of shipping with me. in 1 kubik meter there is room for 8 boxes of 50x50x50

each of the people who want a space (to buy for example dutch cheese or something) can contact me. the will be filled with the produkt you pick. i let my friend in netherland do the shopping, and she will drive everything to the harbor.

but for me alone it is too expensive (250 euro)

  6. Someone has presented me with a business opportunity involving importing goods from Australia by container. I think it is worthwhile pursuing, however a lot depends on costs involved in having the goods clear easily/cheaply with the Thai port authority.

Thailand and Australia have a trade free agreement, so in theory the goods should get through tax free. I understand that there may be some extra 'fees', however I want to be sure that I won't be hit with huge bills or that the authority will make life really difficult.

    Can anyone offer advice?

the best thing you can do is go to the bds port, it is in south bangkok. there is a lady in the office, she speak good english and she can help you. the bds you can find when you drive the road number 9 al to south and just before the new brigde you go left . here it is a bit of a mess, they are working on the road, but ok on the next mainroad you go right.after 2 or 3 kilometer you will see on your leftside a sign bds (just after the petrolpump). i am sorry i forget the name of the street, but there is also a small bangkok hospital and prapradeng hospital, it is al in the same street.

this lady helped us a lot 2 years ago when we came here to travel with our mobilhome (for 6 months-> this was the trouble)

she knows they import rules verry good and it is a small harbor so they can do more for you then on a big one

    good luck
