  1. Thanks for the review. I would also like to suggest that if bar owners will be using the various forums for their free publicity, they should also be gentlemen when offering their opinions on other topics. I can think of at least 3 or 4 establishments I would not open my wallet in due to the fact that the owners come on Pattaya forums and are annoying. Hello Sho*****.

  2. A friend of mine was mentioning a few months ago an incident where his pregnant wife was knocked off her motorbike while driving, punched in the face, and had her bag stolen while people looked on not offering her any assistance. He mentioned he was ready to cash in his chips and leave Pattaya once and for all.

I have been frustrated quite a few times (a day!) but I've never come close. I simply lose myself in a book or head to the gym or a massage parlor.

Any near throwing your toys out of the pram stories?

  3. From Pattaya Ghost website:

The woman in question referred to by the ghost as “the ghost” actually has an interesting story to tell. Unfortunately she is not able to tell it herself because she has severe brain damage suffered through a former violent encounter with a farang.

A European many Moon’s ago took her and her friend for a short time threesome. I believe he was from Austria or Sweden. Not really sure but the point is he ended up beating the crap out of both woman; killing one of them and leaving “the ghost” in her current state.

I have always wondered how the poor woman could survive the mean streets of Thailand and it was revealed to me that the government of the criminal (whichever country he’s from), who nearly killed her, pays her a month compensation check for the damage he inflicted.

He has since been executed for the murder of her friend and she is left to wander the streets of Pattaya. Normally she can be seen in the Soi 7 and 8 areas talking to herself and generally eliciting stares from those who choose to be less informed.

I pity the poor woman and give her small amounts of cash when I see her but she does have other money held in a local bank account to survive. I suspect she won’t be around very long because if you look closely at her eyes she has hepatitis C.

She is not to blame for her current state. That honor goes to another crazy scumbag who deserves to be drawn and quartered rather than a merciful firing squad.

  5. it was ruined well before they arrived

Typical whining about how "Pattaya ain't what she used to be" board member. There's nothing at all wrong with Jomtien and I am grateful it's there as a quick alternative to Pattaya. A change of pace and scenery. If you head down as far as soi 14, you can often find an entire cluster of empty beach chairs and that's the quietest place to be. You won't find that easily (or for long) in Pattaya. When you're done with the beach, head to the end for some decent seafood at Nang Nual or continue further up the road to visit the elephant village. Soi Welcome has some nice massage shops too. The high rises are well maintained and offer sweeping unobstructed views of the entire shoreline for about 15k/month. 2 very good steakhouse/bars on soi 9 ("Rich Man, Poor Man" being one of them). My only bother was driving over the hill at least 4 times/day so I prefer living in central Pattaya.

  6. While I'm not particularly interested in ever visiting Angeles City, I've been hearing rumblings that Cebu Pacific will be offering 3 flights/week there. Does this interest you as an affordable escape from Pattaya's infamous Songkran? Also an alternative to the naughty nightlife of Thailand.

  7. I disagree the Russians or any other nation have ruined anywhere. Aside from Thai protesters destroying their own economy protesting in Thailand, I am happy Thailand is so multicultural. In fact, I find myself on Wong Amat beach in Naklua from time to time just to enjoy all that white skin under the guise of working on my tan. :o

  8. There are an increasing number of 100 baht massage shops sprouting up around Pattaya in the last year. You will rarely see 100 baht for Thai massage anywhere in the kingdom so rejoice. However, you often get what you pay for at these places. Thin mattresses lined up side by side seperated by a curtain, girls not washing your feet before massaging your feet, body, and face, unnecessarily loud chatter between the "masseusses" and/or the cheap Charlie customers blabbing away on their phones, bright lights from ceiling or street, etc.

But I've recently found a few gems on soi xzyte (soi adjacent to Xzyte disco on 3rd road) that were clean and quiet or 150 baht but at no greater or worse than the 100 baht massages. Only in Thailand can you enjoy a hot dish and a massage for 150 baht total. :D

Know any good shops? Where's your local?

I went to Healthtree's fancy spa on North Pattaya road. While inexpensive and the cavernous building very impressive, I was herded through like cattle and shortly after my arrival, a bus load of Asian tourist noisily stomped in and out an hour later regardless of the nap I was jolted out of! :o

  9. you make your own fun in hua hin , hua hin is not "in your face" like an trashy tailor shop tout and it wont grab you by the arm and pull you in like a pattaya prostitutes promise.

hua hin is for those , young or old , who appreciate a slower way of doing things , who like to linger all afternoon over a seafood lunch , a place where you may ( god forbid) have to fall back on your own resources to make your own entertainment , as opposed to showing up slack jawed and semi lobotomized and waiting for things to happen to you.

the joys of hua hin take a while to sink in and be appreciated , which is why it definately isnt suitable for the superficially minded "kiss me quick" and "wham bam thank you mam" type of people who seem to have tried , convicted and hung hua hin in three minutes because there are not enough seats in the bus station to rest their tired <deleted> after the exhaustion of walking 250 metres or not enough desperate prostitutes to satisfy their superhuman urges night after night.

comparing hua hin and pattaya is like comparing a glass of fine wine with a can of asda special brew , both can be enjoyed , but by different people and in different ways.

There's a nightlife in hh. There's bar/discos/karaokes and they're full of bar girls so I think the comparison & similarity is there. Like most of Thailand, the cities are homogeneous. Remove the blindfold and you could be anywhere in Thailand but Pattaya and BKK are distinct. Hua Hin has better beaches for a city which isn't difficult when being compared to Pattaya. I think Harlem, NY's is cleaner than Pattaya's! But if I can be serious for a moment, I must say that dollar for dollar, pound for pound, and baht for baht, your money goes further in Pattaya than anywhere else in all categories. Pattaya has some of the nicest and cheapest accomodations in the Kingdom in areas near all and far from all the action. Food all over the Kingdom is priced identically in chains and small Thai restos but I judge a city by massage costs [as I am a massage addict] and Pattaya is home to the 100 baht massages which are increasing in numbers in the last year. Then if you are in the mood for companionship, there's that market too. I have no longer the desire to speak of Pattaya's ills. All you must do is go elsewhere to figure that out. There's the seedy south Pattaya side but that entire area is completely avoidable and then there's so many other things to see and do. No comparison to anywhere except Chiang Mai which has no beaches and poorer weather. End of. :o

  10. Well I'm finally here in hh. It's honky tonk. It's boring. It's got everything Pattaya has and Pattaya has everything hh has but other than the white sand on the beach, it's boring and I'm looking forward to leaving hh. Just don't ask me what I miss in Pattaya because I do not have the answer. People here are bored. That seems obvious enough though. I'm bored too but I really have no idea what I would be doing differently in Pattaya. I guess it's the vibe.
